I have been a member of the digest for about 5 years now I guess (I
can't remember for sure). We bought our first computer and I was
experimenting with the internet and searched for "Andy Griffith Show"
and I stumbled upon the mayberry.com website. To my surprise, there
were pictures of Allan Newsome. I thought surely this wasn't the same
Allan Newsome that I knew from high school, but it sure did look like
him, so I sent him an e-mail and sure enough it was. I did not know
Allan very well in school because he was a few years ahead of me, but
his brother was in my graduating class. It's funny that 2 people from a
small town meet up like that on the internet! Although I don't post to
the digest very often, I enjoy reading everyone else's posts and I have
learned so much! Receiving the WBMUTBB digest is definitely one of the
highlights of my day!

To Aunt Bee 1 about the various characters and what happened to them: I like to
think they all got married and lived happily ever after; that's what happened
to most Mayberry folks so I figure it was their privilege too!
Also, a local station has begun airing real old shows lately and I noticed that
some Mayberry writers were listed in the credits of "Mr. Peepers." It's always
a joy for me to see any names associated with Mayberry anywhere!

I'm a big fan of Neal Brower. And am still wondering: Is the good professor
still planning to write another volume on how our favorite show was put
together?

'Cuz I'm looking forward to it.

Actually Andy saved Gomer's life after, I think, a grease fire started
at the fillin' station.
Actually Andy "saved Gomer's life" after a roaring blaze swept through the
filling station. Andy battled his way in...Gomer would have been a goner for
sure if Andy hadn't shown up!

>>>In an old Ginger Rogers movie this morning, she said the community theater
>>>was working on "Six Who Pass While the Lentils Boil." I just always assumed
>>>it was a made-up title on our Mayberry show. Now I'm curious about that
>>>play! Guess I'll google it!!<<<

I just did, and here's a synopsis I found for the play:

"While the Boy watches boiling lentils for his mother, six people pass: the
condemned Queen (who he promises to hide), the Mime (who tempts him abandon his
duty), the Milkmaid (who tells him about the reward offered for the Queen), the
Blindman (who shows him why it is best to keep a promise), the Ballad Singer
(who would wander all his life rather than break a promise) and the dreadful
Hangman (who is outwitted by the boy). Her majesty gratefully knights David
Little Boy (who has done his duty and kept his promise)."

Certainly sounds intriguing!

TAGS is a good example of a show where the size of a character's part
doesn't reflect on whether the character will remembered or not over the
years by the show's fans.
Take Ferdie, for example. Played by the late Joel Redlin, Ferdie is happy
and eager to please. Along with his accordion, we like Ferdie as much as his
Aunt Clara is proud of him. Unfortunately, if you blink your eyes more than
a few times you just might miss Ferdie. (well, maybe more than a few
blinks!)
His screen time is short but nonetheless, memorable.
Ferdie is but a small thread within a small stitch of the fabric of the show
that we love: TAGS.
(BUT...he's an important thread and we'll never forget good ol' Ferdie!)

--- Clara says to Ferdie, "Don't tap your foot, it throws me off-key."

That would have made for a very sad episode.....Good thing Holllywood takes
liberties in their writing......You can analyze each episode into a very sad
ending if you had a mind too..............but let's NOT!!!!

Harriet, the chicken thief

......"Johnny Paul Jason says chewing tar is good for your teeth"..."That's
an old wives tale"...."Johnny Paul ain't married"........
