I gotta agree that if the Digest ever gets broken again, we get Goober to
work on it. Heck, let him put it in the Court House to work on it and he'll
getting fixed so good Floyd will be interested in buying it.

Hi everybody,
I am so thankful that Allan was able to get the digest back up and running. I
was lost without being able to read it, and keep up on everyone's Mayberry
moments and questions!!! Allan you are a real "prince of a fellow" for taking
care of this for us, and I want to say thank you!!!
I am resending my comments about Mayberry in the Midwest III because I am
pretty sure that they did not make it on the digest before it went kerflooooey.
If some of you have already read it I apologize for the repeat.
Thanks again Allan, and yes, with the digest back up everything is: "Okay in
Mayberry". LOL LOL
Mayberry in the Midwest III
I wanted to let all of you know that Mayberry in the Midwest was absolutely
fantastic! I have thought and thought (I even put my bucket on) about what I
could tell all of you about the weekend. From beginning to end everyone did a
wonderful job, and the cherry on the cake was the show Saturday night. From
Ronnie Schell to Pink Floyd (our Allan, which had me laughing so hard I saw
stars) to the Dillard/Darlings performance it was totally wonderful. I had no
idea Allan was such a talented singing artist, maybe the Dillards could add him
to their band?? The stars of TAGS were great and like always at the autograph
session so kind and gracious to each one of us that were there to see them.
George Lindsey, Betty Lynn, Elinor Donahue, Maggie Peterson, The Dillards,
Keith Thibodeaux (who blew us away with his drum playing), Barbara Stuart, and
Ronnie Schell all gave great performances, whether it was a song, or whatever.
When the tribute stars sang a song as the "Soggy Bot!
tom
Boys"(??) I was out of my seat clapping. Everyone in the audience loved it!!
I just wish that Allan, David and the rest of the tribute stars were able to
see the audience because we were all having the time of our lives. Rodney
Dillard's beautiful wife Beverly and daughter Rachel also gave a wonderful
performance. WOW!!
We stayed at the same hotel that the stars stayed at and we got to spend some
time talking to Ronnie Schell and several of the other stars of the show. They
were all very friendly and easy to talk to though I must admit I was nervous
meeting them, but they immediately put us at ease and before long it was just
like talking to a friend.
Sunday, we took a detour and went over to Danville, Indiana to the Mayberry
Cafe where we had a wonderful meal, while watching TAGS on the tv's placed
around the restaurant and looked at all of the TAGS related items that they had
on display. The folks there were very gracious and served us some wonderful
food. I highly recommend it to any of you that might be in the Danville,
Indiana area.
I am still so filled with excitement that I could go on and on, so just let me
say that this was the best Mayberry event I have been to so far. Curt Bell,
his lovely wife and everyone that helped him put this show on, should definetly
be highly commended. I have been involved in different events, though nothing
on this large a scale, so I have an idea what it takes to make something like
this come to be. Congratulations to everyone involved in making Mayberry in
the Midwest III a success. Rodney Dillard and Jamie Sullivan's performance
of: "I Wish Life Was Like the Andy Griffith Show" says it all, and I agree.

To who have already or will thank Allan for setting up, running, and fixing
the bulletin board, I would like to add my thanks.
It isn't until you miss it for a few days that you realize how nice it is to
get it every day.
I think we ought to rig a drawing for a doorprize and let Allan win it!

Does Howard McNear have any children or grandchildren? I would love to
contact them just to say how much I adored his work on TAGS. Of all the
semi regulars (Thelma Lou, Gomer, etc.) he was my favourite. Makes me
smile just thinking of Floyd. I even downloaded the newspaper with his
face on the cover that Mayberry.com has posted.

Hi gang, and I'd like to say Happy Birthday to Don Knotts, one of the true
greats!! A living legend. My memory of meeting him at the Mayberry Squad Car
Rendezvous was July 12, 1996 at the Dinner with the Stars at the Greenville Inn
in Greenville, OH. I was there with my group and when Don walked in the room
it was all I could do to keep from bursting into tears I was so excited! I
just couldn't believe being in the same room with Don Knotts. Ronnie Schell
and Arlene Golonka were there, too, such nice people. I got Don's autograph
that night and that poster has a prominent place in my hallway. Course then
the next day, Sat. was the gathering at Bob Scheib's farm, the Squad Car
Rendezvous, boy do I miss them having that anymore. Then in the evening we got
to see Don in "An Evening with Me." My hubby & I had our picture taken with
Don and that picture is on our nightstand. I was thrilled to meet him and just
want to wish him a very Happy Birthday and thank him for bringing so much joy
into our lives over the years!!

I tried to post this last week, but didn't see it come through, so
I'm reposting it.
Jim
We live in Flag Pond, TN. There's a small store in front of the
house on Old Hwy 23, and regularly folks stop there looking for
directions. There's been a lot of confused folks since I-26 was
opened up last August between Johnson City, TN and Ashville, NC.
I-26 on the TN side was known as US 23 and I-181 through Johnson City
to the VA line. Now, I-26 goes from the NC border up to I-81 (same
road, just had a name change.
Anyhow, this past Saturday evening a saw a couple cars and a van pull
in at the store (after the store was closed that I didn't recognize.
Due to the road sign at Exit 3 on the NC side of the line saying "TO
US 23", folks will get off there onto the 2 lane not kwowing if they
stayed on the big road they'd get to Johnson City a lot easier. Some
but not all of the maps have changed and we regularly have tractor
trailors get off on that exit to come across the mountain.
Anyhow, I was giving this lady the directions back to the interstate
(they were headed back to Ohio) then her husband pulled up in the van
to where we were talking and I explained I had been outside and saw
some vehicles pull up that I didn't recognize and since the store was
closed I figured I walk over and see if they needed some directions.
Anyhow, the husband said, ahhh, just like Mayberry where everybody
knows everybody else.........I asked if he was a member of WBMUTBB,
but he said they didn't have time to chat and get the address to sign
up as they had an 8 hour or so ride still.

Jeff Koontz wrote a nice note about The Dillards at Oakboro.
Sherry and I drove to Oakboro, NC (4 hours) to see The Dillards. The
mandolin players name is George and he's from Branson. The bass
player is from WV and does, or at least used to, play for The
Virginia Boys. I didn't catch his name.
Feb had to work...first time in 8 months of not working Saturdays, we
order the tickets and she has a mandatory Saturday work
day....sheesh.
Maggie (Charlene was there too. As were there as were a couple
characters playing Ernest T. Bass and Howard (Jeff Branch). Rodney's
wife Beverly was on the trip and she got up and sang and played some
clawhammer banjo. She's a professional musician in her own right with
a number of recordings. Beverly also used to teach oldtime music in
the NC schools.
With the help of Jeff Koontz, Sherry Lynn and I got our picture taken
with Rodney, Doug, Beverly and Maggie. Now I just have to find our
cable to download the pictures from the digital camera. Jeff, thanks
for taking the picture(s). I'll get you a copy once I find the cable
and get them downloaded to the computer.
Jim

I noticed last night...that my favorite line in the episode where
Barney and Gomer "handle things" whilst Andy is out on
vacation.....wasn't there! They must've "nipped it!" Anyway....it's
when they handcuff themselves together and show up on Andy's porch to get
another set of handcuff keys (whilst Andy is
reading a "Geographic)." Barney didn't want Andy to see them
handcuffed.....but Gomer says..."Can I have an apple?" Andy
replies...."Sure help yourself." When he reaches for the apple their
problem is revealed to Andy. Then Barney says to Gomer...."JUST HAD TO
HAVE AN APPLE!"
A CLASSIC MOMENT!
