With Rodney & Doug Dillard and Maggie Peterson back in North Carolina, it
certainly was a big weekend getting to see both the afternoon and evening shows
in Oakboro. Jeff Branch has an outstanding venue for bluegrass music for both
the performers and the audience. It was an honor to help out with the event and
I was glad it was successful. It is always nice to see friends there and meet
new ones too.

Jeff & I were able to attend the church service where Rodney & Beverly Dillard
did their Mayberry Values ministry on Sunday. They did an outstanding job of
sharing their faith with songs and testimony, along with positive examples from
the show. The minister was all smiles with Maggie attending the service as
well. We knew he was a real TAGS fan when he included "Leaning on the
Everlasting Arms" in the service (Our row just moved our lips).

On a fun note, Rodney asked if people remembered the episode "Opie the Birdman"
and one little boy sitting in front of us said, "Opie the Breadman?!" We just
cracked up! Maybe Harvey can work on that script for him.

Does anyone have the 30th or 35th anniversary shows from TBS cataloged to know
what episodes are on it. I have it on tape but am looking for the episode where
Andy and Helen, Andy and Ellie or Andy, Barney, Thelma and Helen go on a
picnic. I wanted to use part of a picnic scene on tape for a speech I'm working
on for Toastmasters and don't have time to watch the whole tapes. I know one of
them starts with the first episode. Thanks for your help. Cathy
PS Can't wait until the whole first season is on DVD. Any word on when it's
coming or the cost.

I just found a new DVD at my WalMart for $5.50; it has 16 episodes
(misnamed and with that other theme music) that are real clear and I
believe with epilogues. It includes some vintage cartoons, shorts and
commercials, including one with Ange and Post Toasties. There's one for
Mattel's detective set wherein Otis is the boogey man! Happy shopping!!!
As for Barn's singing, check out the harmoney between him and Ange on
"Sinners Lose All Their Guilty Stains" - it's fabulous!
Also, if you go thru the phone book in Mt. Airy, you will find umpteen
names from the show as Ange chose this as another way to honor his fellow
townsfolk.

Speaking of Mayberry Books...I know I ask this question at least once a year
of Allan but is there any word from Neal Brower if there is going to be a
sequel to "Mayberry 101". (Think it's been well over a year since I last
asked.)
I enjoyed that book so much that I wish Mr. Brower would consider doing a
Mayberry 102 or 201 sequel.

I am in Heaven this week -- TAGS for five nights for 2 1/2 hours a night!!
I can't wait for the Top Ten show on Wednesday.

One thing I noticed last night was that there seemed to be more scenes in
the shows that are not normally shown on the local stations. For instance,
in "Andy and the New Mayor", I don't remember the baby's mother remarking
about Barney's "perfume".

I can't wait to go home tonight and spend another night watching TAGS!!!

Have a great Mayberry day.

He wasn't complaining, was he???? I hope they had a diner for a bite to
eat and a barbershop where he could go and gossip with the men and maybe
a checkerboard outside the motel for a little fresh air. TAGS all day
long?

That's it, I'm packing my bag and going over there.

Allan--while I have been getting the digest for quite a while now, I realize
I never did introduce myself to the rest of the gang. I was fourteen years old
when TAGS first aired. I watched it that night and have been watching it ever
since. I was a professional musician for many years, last performing as B. J.
Thomas's bass player in the seventies. I have been in advertising ever since
then. I did the map of Mayberry that appears on the Rerun Watcher's Club
website and have a big copy of it hanging on my office wall. Most recently, I
used
my computer for the artwork and my workshop for the structure and created a
scale model of the Mayberry courthouse. If anybody wants to see it I can send a
photo. I enjoy the digest every morning with coffee; it's a great way to go
back to our hometown of Mayberry. Allan, keep up the great work!

What with the Digest being broken and all wouldn't it be a good idea for
Goober, Emmett and Howard to hold a big meeting to decide what to do if the
Digest is ever broken again?

Maybe, but for now it is good to know that "Everything is OK in Mayberry...."

I am trying to find any one of the 4 guys from Kansas who attended Mayberry in
the Midwest III. I have some great pictures of your karaoke performance and
want to be sure you get copies. Let me know how to reach you!

Hey, gang -- new member here. Well....not new, exactly...I've been
lurking for a few weeks, and finally decided that, in the spirit of
Mayberry, it was time to drop in and say hello.
My name is Paul, and I live waaaay yonder and gone out on the west
coast. While I live in the city now, I was born and raised in a small
town not unlike Mayberry; we had the local diner, drugstore, barber
shop, etc., and everyone was friendly and happy to help their
neighbors. The small town still lives within, and I feel I am blessed
to have had grown up there. I'm in my 40s, and I grew up watching and
loving TAGS, as did my entire family. Fact is, we all still watch at
every opportunity...speaking of which, I was literally crushed when
TVland dropped the back-to-back 6-7pm (PST) showings....to be replaced
with (gulp) Three's Company! Why, there ought to be a law.... Barn,
can you get on this?

At any rate, I'm happy to be here and am looking forward to doing my
small part to keep the precious memory of Mayberry alive. Actually,
it's much more than a memory. It's a living, breathing thing. In this
world of ours, with all it's attendant problems and fears, the place in
our hearts and souls we call Mayberry is more important than ever.
Vital, even.
Mayberry is a frame of mind.
It's an approach to life that involves genuine caring and support of
friends and strangers alike.

I'll be away for about a month....I'm entering the hospital for a
problem, the details of which I'll not go into now. I would humbly ask
for a small prayer from those so inclined, and I'll sure be keeping
Mayberry close to my heart in the coming difficult weeks.

We'll talk to y'all soon. Take good care of yourselves, and thank you
all so much for this wonderful place to visit. Paul.
