What I really enjoyed about the top 10 were the accolades given to TAGS by
people from very different shows (such as Lewis Black from The Daily Show). It
just goes to show that anyone and everyone can find something to like in
Mayberry!

On July 10th and 11th a showing was held in Iola, Wisconsin. Our local
newspaper had a picture of a Ford Car made to look like the Mayberry
squad car. I talked with one of my friends who live in Eau Claire and
has attended every show. He told me that the owner lives in Minneapolis
and also does a great impression of Barney.

Unless they did it differently this time for some reason, the TV Land "Top
Ten" specials are always ranked based on the online poll. They have one going
now for the TV cars, and had one previously on TV dads (the one where Andy beat
out Ward Cleaver and Cliff Huxtable).

Was watching the Barney & the Choir episode last night where Glenn Cripes sings
and Barney lip-sync's. Was this the movie that Andy's actual wife was in or
was it the one where Gomer takes over Barney's place in the choir? I remember
she had a small line in it where she said something like "sorry Mr. Masters",
or something like that. I noticed in the episode last night the cute blonde in
the choir that shared a music sheet with Andy in one scene. who was she? I'd
definitely add her to the long list of potential mates for Andy, other than
Helen.
I can't believe that none of the cast members voted for #77 (Man in a Hurry) as
their all time favorite. It's generally the fan's favorite. Definitely mine.
I think the reason is that the star of that episode isn't anyone of them, or
Robert Emhardt (who played an incredible role of Malcolm Tucker). The star of
that priceless episode is the town of Mayberry (and the excellent writer,
director, etc.) It will always be my personal favorite episode of any
television show, no matter what the cast thinks.

3. Barney and the Choir
4. Barney's First Car
5. The New Housekeeper
6. Opie the Birdman
7. The Loaded Goat

"While watching Barney and the Choir last night on TVLand, somebody told me
that Andy Griffith's first wife was a choir member. If so, can anybody
point her out for me?"
Andy Griffith's first wife, Barbara Edwards Griffith, was not in "Barney
and the Choir". I believe she was in the episode "The Song Festers" which
also involves the choir. It is the one where John Masters replaces Barney
with Gomer. In that episode, she plays the part of the choir member named
Sharon. Her only line is "I'm sorry, Mr. Masters." This is in the first
scene that shows the choir. I think she is in the front row. She has dark
hair. She is also among the choir members in the later scenes of the
choir, but does not speak in those scenes.

She's in the choir all right, but not that episode. She plays Sharon in
"The Song Festers," the one where John asks Gomer to sing "Santa Lucia."
She speaks one line: "I'm sorry, Mr. Masters."

Have you folks ever thought about how fortunate we all are that Mayberry was
produced in the early 60s when life was so much simpler and more innocent?
Imagine if it had been produced in 2004. This may be what we would see.
Instead of Barney calling Thelma Lou and Juanita on that classic black phone,
he would be calling them on his cell phone or sending instant messages.
Instead of Andy and Barney eating those delicious homemade lunches delivered
each day by Aunt Bee, they would be putting frozen dinners in their microwave
in the back room.
Instead of Goober sitting around drinking pop with his pals and reading his
comic books, he would be busy selling bread and milk in his convenience store
while people were pumping their own gas.
Instead of Opie and his pals frolicking through the woods playing Robin Hood
and meeting those fascinating people like Mr. McBeevey and Weird Willie, they
would be home playing computer games, watching videos, or going to various
camps or sports practices planned and supervised by well meaning parents and
coaches.
Instead of Barney and Thelma Lou spending nights down at the duck pond, Barney
would take her to a karaoke place where Barney could really do a solo.
Instead of Aunt Bee and Clara sitting on the front porch Sunday afternoons
enjoying homemade ice cream, they would be off to the mall at Mt. Pilot.
Instead of old Jud and the fellows playing checkers at the Floyds, they would
be transported to a senior citizen center for lunch followed with bingo..
Instead of Malcolm having to stop by in Mayberry to ask for directions, he
would download all his travel routes at MapQuest and totally bypass Mayberry
altogether.
Instead of Earnest T. Bass running through town breaking windows, getting an
education, and chasing Romaina, he would be spending everyday getting therapy
as in inpatient at the Mt. Pilot Hospital and Rehab Center.
Instead of Helen spending her nights working on that blame grading manual, she
would be attending meetings discussing the new curriculum on drug awareness and
sex education.
And finally, instead of Otis, peacefully sleeping off his snootful on
Saturday night among friends and people who love him, he would be confined to a
drug rehab center surrounded by strangers and people who would not even tell
him fairy tales.
Now, arent we lucky that we can always return to Mayberry as the way it was
meant to be and to the way it shall always be in the hearts of all true TAGS
fans.

sure....

This may have come up before, but in the episode with Barbara Eden as the
manicurist, when Barney walks past Andy sitting in the manicurist chair and
goes
into the courthouse you see what looks like a movie set of the outdoors
behind the door and not the inside of the courthouse? Any explanations? Thanks

Hi gang, I loved all the suggestions for gifts for Allan; tonight while
watching "The Manicurist" I thought we'd have to include a manicure by the
lovely Miss Ellen (the lovely Barbara Eden). That episode is in my personal
"Top 10". My hubby & I watched it tonight & everything in that episode is so
perfect; Floyd is just hilarious!!! Seeing Andy put his foot in his mouth not
once but twice, and Barney being beside himself, the guys are so intimidated
by Miss Ellen; the scene where Andy gets his manicure; watching Floyd in that
scene has us rolling!! So I think a manicure for Allan by Miss Ellen would
have to be included; that is if it's ok with the Mrs. !!!!!!!!!

Does anyone reproduce any "clone" props for enjoyment, I have thought about
this some but haven't decided what to make, I know lots of people recreate
the squad cars but what about other things. Any ideas, don't be shy.<<<<
Well Wade, that's a good question. Now it depends on if your specialty is
woodcraft, metal craft, leather craft, or Mr. Potato Head. There's
something I would like reproduced, and a Digest member a while back started
talkin about makin' em... but then didn't, so don't get my hopes up if
you're really not gonna do it, ok. Here it is...
Jail Keys, that's what I would buy a copy of. You don't need a garage to
store it in (like squad car)...just find a prominent nail, and there you
go, one of the most memorable props of the show. There are a couple
episodes where we get a pretty good look at them, if you need a model.
Other possibilities..Pickle jars, Miracle Salve, Slingshot, gavel, Bullet,
badge....but I'd pay a pretty penny for real looking jail keys.
Trivia question! Who all handled the jail keys???
