Don't forget Baked Alaska. You know that's that new dessert they came
out with right after Alaska became a state!

I have an unusual favor to ask...does anyone have the "Andy and the Woman
Speeder" episode on tape, and if so, do you have a device to snap .jpg's from
it?
Please contact me offlist if so. Either I missed it this last time on TV
Land or they skipped it. Thanks in advance.

I'll use Thomas' post to bring up the annual WBMUTBB Silent Auction during
Mayberry Days. This is our Chapter's community service project that helps raise
money for the Surry Arts Council's efforts during the festival.
For the past 5 years, members of WBMUTBB have donated Mayberry related items
that are in a silent auction on Saturday morning at the Andy Griffith Playhouse
(right after the parade). There are so many creative people in our chapter and
they always come up unique things that you can't buy anywhere else. There is
also autographed memorabilia (a'la Tom's guitar), handcrafted items, art work
and more - something for everyone in all price ranges.
We also need to have people help out during the auction. It is a great way to
spend time with other WBMUTBB members and the only real work is setting things
up and helping with the payments. In between you are just there to answer
questions and encourage bidding. Plus you are right in the action when the
bidding heats up as noon approaches.
I'll be posting auction photos on the SAC website (Tom - to borrow a line from
Ernest T, "I'm gettin' to that!") so if you have something to donate and can
send me a digital image, that will help promote the event (FYI - Surry Arts is
separate from WBMUTBB, I just happen to be involved in both). Even if you don't
have a picture, knowing all the donations before the festival starts is helpful
so I can make bid sheets beforehand.
I'll be posting more about it, but wanted to let everyone know that the auction
is coming up and hope many of you will consider helping out through a donation,
by helping on Saturday, or just stopping by to bid on something. You are
welcome to email me directly at [EMAIL PROTECTED] with any specific questions.

I don't know about other states but here in Illinois it's legal to make u-turns
as long as the way is clear to do so. What's the law in other states?

This is BIG!
The Surry Arts Council is pleased to announce that Andy Griffith will return
home to Mount Airy for the 15th Annual Mayberry Days. On Friday morning,
September 24, he and his wife Cindi will be attending the unveiling ceremony of
another TV Land Landmark statue of "Andy and Opie" that will be located at the
Andy Griffith Playhouse. The statue is a replica of the one in Raleigh.
The official press release is on the Mayberry Days page of the Surry Arts
Council website, www.surryarts.org. The schedule (still subject to change) is
also online if you want to see what is planned for the rest of the festival.
There is no information on how long Andy will be in town or what he will do
before, during, or after Friday morning's ceremony, but I will update the
website as news comes from SAC.

>From the WRAL Newsdesk in the Asphalt Jungle:
Andy Griffith Statue Coming To Mount Airy
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Andy Griffith did not have much luck
in Raleigh, so he is trying his hometown. TV Land will
unveil a replica of the Raleigh statue in Mount Airy
next month.
The revealing of the second Opie and Andy statue will
kick off the 15th annual Mayberry Festival starting on
Sept. 24. It will appropriately sit on the front lawn
of Andy Griffith's Playhouse.
The Andy Griffith statue in Raleigh was vandalized
three times after it went up last October.

Just saw where the actor that played Lester Scoby in "Andy Forecloses"
and Sam Muggins in "The Christmas Story" passed away on July 28. His
real name was Sam Edwards and I offer a prayer for his passing.

Watching Andy and Barney in Raleigh, there were a good many extras used in
the hotel lobby, but I never saw our regulars, in particular, Tom Jacobs.
Got me to thinking, did we ever see either Mr. Schwump or Tom Jacobs in an
episode that took place outside of Mayberry?

I see where there will be an identical statue of Andy and Opie dedicated at
0930 Friday at the Andy Griffith Playhouse during Mayberry days. Andy and Cindy
will be on hand for this historic occasion!
Just thought I would pass this along in case anyone attending the festivities
is interested!!
