It was mentioned that Rance Howard was seen in an episode of Married with
Children, his wife, Ron's mom, was in an episode of Roseanne.

Maybe if every member of the digest would contact TVLand they could air
the retromercials. They air other old commercials why not these? Of
course, never having seen most TAGS ads (not in my memory, anyhow) my
fave old ad has to be Lucy selling Vitameatavegamin.
I do vaguely recall TBS ending an episode w/A & B doing calisthenics &
advertising Grape Nuts, I think it was.

Mayberry moment!!
The other night I was watching an old episode of Gunsmoke, where Doc and Festus
had been kidnapped by the bad guys to doctor one of the injured outlaws. Festus
finally escaped, but the bad guys were hot on his trail. He saw some cows in
the stream drinking, and he had a great idea!
Well, along comes the bad guys and see his footprints leading into the stream
but no prints coming out either up or downstream.
Then the secret is out. The next scene shows Festus riding a cow to make good
his escape! I immediately had to think of Otis but instead of escaping, he was
turning himself in!

The new DVDs do *not* have extras of any kind. I have no idea if that will
change in the future, maybe when the color years are released, the extras would
be a way to goose sales. I would love to see the old cast commercials
digitally enhanced, and wish the episodes being released showed the original
closing
credits as well (Andy and Opie returning from their trip and Opie runs back
to pick up a fish he dropped).

I recently found radio transcription disks of 28 episodes of TAGS (mostly
season 1) and they all have individual cast commercials at the end. Each one is
different and is really a continuation of the story line from the show. You
can read a little more about these amazing disks at the Mayberry Emporium. Go
to this address:

First time I have ever written in, but enjoy reading the digest every day.
It helps me win at Andy Griffith trivia every time. Not sure if this was
mentioned but I remember Andy doing a commercial for Ritz crackers. It went
mmmmmm (something) on a Ritz ---good cracker

I'm buyin'my DVDs ar Weavers not Walters- Mart. I think Harriets
"Chickins" could strut in the Oympics Parade. It would be a nice touch.
They cluck and cackle real well. Except for the ones that stole the
trailer. Until we meet again Big Maude

Do you suppose Ron Howard's children were raised on General Foods
products? Or do you think Andy Griffith & Don Knotts still feel a
special bond with the products? It would be odd, to me if I saw Andy
ordering any decaf coffee but Sanka or Ron Howard's kids eating Cheerios
or Froot Loops.

While I'm in the area I would like to see the original Andy and Opie statue in
Raleigh and I'd also like to visit Francis Bavier's grave in Siler City. The
problem is that I don't know where they're located. Can anyone help me?

"Everybody on the truck!" The Surry Arts Council is pleased to announce that
Mitch Jayne and Dean Webb will be at Mayberry Days this year. With Rodney &
Doug Dillard and Maggie Peterson all attending, it is a Darling Family
reunion in Mount Airy!
As many of you know, Mitch no longer performs due to his hearing loss, but
he is one of the finest storytellers and will certainly have some good tales
to share. This will make Professor Brower's Lecture extra special, as he is
featuring "The Darlings" this year. The annual TAGSRWC meeting is being held
after the lecture and one $5 ticket gets you in both events. Remember, it is
not a dinner meeting this year, but there is a spaghetti dinner afterwards.
All the latest is at the www.surryarts.org. The website is updated as news
comes from the Andy Griffith Playhouse and I'll pass along the news to the
Digest as I get it.
