You may have been taking from Dr. Tucker for some time now, but you really
ought to hear my preacher. First of all, he's a huge TAGS fan and loves
more than anything to work a TAGS reference into a sermon. Yesterday, he
was talking about deacons and said he had a tape of a deacon ordination
service from last year. They fire up the video and it is Barney swearing in
Otis and Goober as deputies.
While everybody loved the bit, I was enjoying the preacher standing off to
the side. He had the biggest grin on his face the whole time. You could
tell he genuinely loves TAGS.
It is also interesting that about a block from the pulpit, across the street
from the church, sits a replica squad car.

I can partly answer that one for you already. "I Love Lucy" was sponsored by
Phillip Morris cigarettes at first, but in later years they were also
sponsored by General Foods and Procter & Gamble, so I wouldn't think they'd be
an
issue with Ricky and Lucy talking about Jell-O or Lilt Home Permanent. The
hour-long "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" specials were sponsored by Ford and
Westinghouse,
and I have seen Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel talking with Betty Furness about
Westinghouse refrigerators. "The Dick Van Dyke Show" would be problematic,
because at one point the stars advertised Kent cigarettes (until Van Dyke put a
stop to it). I've never seen cast commercials from "The Munsters" or "I Dream
of Jeannie," but I have seen several from "Leave It to Beaver," mostly for
Purina Pet Foods or Chex cereal.
For the record, I have seen TV Land air one cast commercial. It was the
Partridge Family for Kellogg's Rice Krispies. The Monkees also used to do ads
for
Kellogg's.

The only thing I can think of that Rance might be short for would be Lawerence.
I can hardly wait to get my DVD's of TAGS's first season. Its been a long time
since I have seen
a lot of those episodes. There are no local stations near me that carry TAGS
currently so my
2 sixteen episode public domain DVD's and My Columbia House VHS tapes are about
my only TAGS I see these days.
It's too bad they could not have included the Pilot episode instead of putting
it on the Danny Thomas 5th season release. I really don't want to have to buy a
complete season of a show that I really dont want to watch or own just to get
the pilot episode of Andy. May they will get smart and release the Pilot on
one of the other seasons of TAGS eventually.
Who should we email to drop some hints about that to?

Could anyone tell me where I can get a replica of the telephone used in the
courthouse? I have looked on ebay and other sites but don't want to pay
those prices. It don't have to be real and I don't want to spend over $50.
Thanks,
Teresa Elkins

It's not looking too good for that. It took a long time for Weaver's to sell
out but I'm not sure they will be getting more. I'll pass along your note
to Mr. Weaver so he can judge demand.

The Raleigh News & Observer published a nice article about Frances Bavier in
today's paper, including a photo of the grave stone.

There was a program Monday night that showed pilot episodes that were never
made into series. One was directed by Ron Howard and he also appeared as
himself on the show. The host of the fictional show he was appearing on was
introducing him and mentioned the guest was from TAGS. He said it in such a
way as to slightly insult Ron, something to the affect that the guest wasn't
"Andy Griffith, now that would be really great".

I have a video tape of an episode of The Jack Benny Show. The guest star was
Humphrey Bogart and it features the original commericals for Lucky Strike
cigarettes. The story line of the show also included Bogey making a reference
to a Lucky Strike cigarette.
Do you suppose I have an illegal tape in my home? Well holler "Citizen's
Arrest" all you want, I ain't giving it up.

I was just wondering how everyone knows the song lyrics for Fishin' Hole
since they don't sing it on the show? Did Andy Griffith sing this on a
record or something?
I was watching a movie not too long ago and they mentioned Mayberry RFD.
A man was in a small town on business and was talking to his girlfriend
on the phone. Said something to her like "stuck here in Mayberry RFD."
Any town like Mayberry is a town I'd want to be in!

By now I'm sure everyone has heard about our near miss with Hurricane
Charley here in the Tampa Bay area of Florida....Here is a snippet from the
St. Petersburg Times......Barney was right!
Giraffes, antelopes ride out the storm in the open
Some of Busch Gardens' antelopes and giraffes were allowed to stay out in a
part of the park's Serengeti Plain even as Hurricane Charley approached.
The Tampa attraction did not open Friday, and most of the park's animals
were put in secure quarters. Park spokesman Gerard Hoeppner said the
antelopes and giraffes often like to stay out in severe weather since the
plain is more like their natural habitat.
....and we know why - they're selfish!
Harriet, chickens take care of their own too :)
......"Next time I go tiger hunting, I'm going to take my tweezers"........
