Barney actually came up with a lot of things before their time. In "The
Great Filling Station Robbery" he appeared to "invent" video surveillance
cameras,
a good friend to FBI agents who look for bank robberies. In "A Wife for
Andy," he invents the concept for the popular current-day TV show "The
Bachelor,"
the only thing missing were the roses. ("Whaddaya think, Ange? See anything
you like?") And in the one where Gomer joins the choir, the "solo" is sung
jointly by Barney, Andy, and Gomer, making them the original "Three Tenors."
Anyone think of anything else Barney "invented"?

For the past few years, I've had a hobby of photographing Rock City Barns. Many
of you on the Digest live in parts of the country where they may be and I was
wondering if you could email me and let me know about them. So far, I've gotten
to see about 20 I think. I'd like to try to find more when I'm on my way to
Mayberry Days.
Mayberry says thanks and happy motoring!

applied for
dissability and my income is very limited. I hope In can start back up in the
future. Sincerely,Bettie Anne Long

As for wearing public service uniforms. You cannot wear
the logo's, the patches or anything that indeed indicates that you are an
officer of the law or even a security
person. When I first wore the Barney uniform in public, I too
ran into some problems. I was never arrested or anything
but there were some problems. Which is why I wear the
Mayberry patch, a tags tie, and a pink plastic water
pistol. Obvioulsy, I'm not a real cop. It's never been a
problem to explain myself either, because I look like Don.

Hi ya'll,
While running the risk of being labeled "Weird", I would have taken
Charlene up on her offer of "Hog Neckbone". It is my favorite "Southern
Dish".
I make mine with boneless, lean pork. I boil the pork with seasonings such
as: Garlic, Season Salt. When the pork is "fork tender", I add Yellow Rice
and when the juices flavor the rice.......ther ain't nothin' like it!!

Aunt Bee says that in the episode titled, "Floyd, The Gay
Deceiver". I think Andy says she looks like 'FiFi the upstairs
maid', and asks her if she can play the part of the maid, and
she replied about being in that particular play...
That is such a lovely area, that they used to shot that
Ginger Roger's movie. Sure a pretty place your son
goes to go to school at, Barb...

Cindy,
Just read your message in the digest. Your question, do you hear
the quotes all over the country or just in N.Carolina? You'll hear them
the most in the east.
I live in Arizona and around here I guess that it is up to me to
bring the best of it out in people......I'm Barney...or-ur-uh, I've been
conditioned to be...I'm a look-alike and I do some imitating.
Although, there are plenty of people who watch the reruns in the
west just as there are in the east. I just don't hear the quotes as much
here as they are heard in the east.
Tombstone Arizona is my highlite to present myself as Barney and
via the telephone yesterday, I was told that a squad car and a Barney
was there last week. I'm going down there over Labor Day (next week-end)
maybe I'll find out who that was.
In Tombstone I meet people from all over the world and rarely do I
meet anyone from any nation who doesn't know who Barney Fife is. I've
even met people from N. Carolina there and I've met close friends and
associates of Don Knotts there. Not at Tombstone, but I have finally met
Don Knotts too... I met him in Hollywood in April and saw him again at
the cast reunion in Nashville in June.
How about that, your question answered and a little extra too.
Should you wish, you may forward my reply to the digest. The last
time I sent a message to the digest, it bounced and I don't know why.
Bob (Barney Fife) Phillips
Have a great day!

Hey everyone! When you send in an article to the digest, how about
putting where you're from. I love it when that info is provided. It's
fun to see where all the TAGS fans live. Just a little suggestion. If
you are uncomfortable putting your town name, just put what state (or
country) you are from.
"Lots of luck to you & yours!"
