>>>I noticed someone sent out a reminder to be nice to Helen in our posts. You
know I used to think Helen was pretty snippy at times, but, as a man, I
hate to admit it, most of the times she was snippy to Andy he DESERVED it....
The times that Helen got the most steamed was when Andy concealed things
from her....<<<
Joe, I believe you have hit the proverbial nail on the head! In fact, I was
thinking that very thing a few nights ago while watching the color episode
where Flora at the diner pursues Andy. Remember when Helen wanted to get a
bite to eat at the diner after the movie? Andy hem-hawed around, making vague
excuses about not being hungry. I thought to myself, Why doesn't he just say,
"No, Helen, that new waitress seems to have a crush on me, and I want to avoid
her at all costs"? Even if they had gone in, Helen would have been privy to
the situation and would have known that Andy had no interest in Flora, thus
precluding any feelings of jealousy on her part. But, then, that would have
made a less interesting story line, right??
Incidentally, I get a real kick out of the way Helen reacts to Andy's supposed
new love interest. I get a hoot out of her expressions and her sarcasm to
Flora. As you said, Andy really deserves Helen's thinly veiled wrath in this
scene for not being up front with her.
About the only time I can think of off hand that Andy really doesn't deserve
Helen's anger is in the "Man in the Middle" episode when Helen learns from
Barney that Andy referred to her as "some third party." If that phrase upset
her, she should have gone to Andy and asked him about it. But, again, that
wouldn't have advanced the plot, would it?

Andy didn't deserve the chewing out Helen gave him in front of the Court
House when Barney spread the word Helen and Andy were going to get married
because of Opie's 3rd wish. At the time, he didn't know anything about the
Count and the 3 wishes.

I agree with Maude and The Untrained Voice about Helen. One time Andy told Mr.
Darling that she was "a sweet, pretty girl and a lot of us like her". Remember
when Andy was in Hollywood, and was photographed with the actress from the
movie about his life. If it had been me, I'd have been steamed seeing my guy
with Ruta Lee!
I always thought of it that we are only seeing these folks one day a week. The
other six days were just average: Barney didn't lock himself up in the cell,
Helen and Andy got along, Aunt Bee cleaned house, Opie did his homework, the
Darlings were in the mountains, Goober was reading a comic book and pumping
gas, etc. Although I do wonder about Mr. Schwamp.

I would like the WBMUTBB readers to help me make a decision. I would dearly
love to attend the Mayberry Days in Sept. However, I own a gift shop that
attracts both tourists and local people. I am the only one that works there.
Sometimes my mother helps out if I have a bus come in but 99% of the time I am
by myself. This is my fifth year in business and it has been tough but each
year I make small gains. I only pay myself about $100.00 a week and sometimes
not even that. My husband and I have not been anywhere since 1998 because I can
not leave my business. Even if I get sick (which is rare, thank goodness) I
have to be at work. I have been there when I had a temperature and upset at
my stomach lying on the office floor while my 78 year old mother tries to run
the cash register and wait on people. It is not the best set-up but I can't
afford to pay anyone.
Now, here is my question. Should I try to go to Mayberry Days? I will
either have to close my business for about four days or leave it open and have
my
mother and maybe a friend run it while I'm gone. The latter presents problems
because my mom is afraid of the cash register and the credit card machine.
She tends to press the wrong buttons and then things really get fouled up and
she can't get anything backed out. I am afraid to leave but I also think that
I'm missing a lot by never leaving home. Several people I know are going to
Mayberry Days also. Another problem is that I have three horses, three cats,
and one dog. Someone has to take care of them too.
Is it too late to try to go because of the motels filling up? I don't mind
staying out a few miles from Mt. Airy. Do I close my business, leave it open
or just forget the whole thing?
I know this is long but I need suggestions.
This is big. Really big.

I like the relationship betwen Andy and Helen but she might have over-reacted
when she went ballistic about him referring to her as a third party. What I
really like about it is she admitted at the end that she should have known he
didn't mean anything by it. This is similar to how Andy usaully admits his
faults when they have quarrel.....

Hey Everybody,
I watched a TAGS episode which was the second one with the Fun Girls. Barney
ran into them at the Mayberry Diner as he was getting sandwiches for him and
Ange, because they had to work late. Barney promised that he and Andy would
take them home to Mt. Pilot. My question is why they needed to take them home
and how did they get to Mayberry? I wonder if there was a bus that ran between
Mayberry and Mt. Pilot? The Mayberry Diner would not be a hang out place for
the Fun Girls. I don't consider myself a Trained Noticer, but that seemed a
little "curious, curious." I just thought of something, maybe their car broke
down on the way through Mayberry.
Have a Great Mayberry Day!!

The only time I felt that Helen overreacted a bit was when Andy was trying to
deal with the Darling's intention of matrimony and she gave Ange the old "you
beat everthing" line. It was clear to me that Andy really was doing his best
to help. But, hey! Nobody's perfect! I grew to like Helen over the years.

Hello Everyone, Regrettably, work obligations will keep us from attending what
is likely to be the best of Mayberry Days so far. I have four tickets to the
Dillard concert Friday night (Sept. 24)and four tickets to Col. Tim's Talent
Time on Saturday. They are second and third rows respectively, both in the
center section. These are perfect seats. They weigh in at 25.00 as the
printed ticket price, but I'll sell them for substantially less that that if
anyone can use them. Otherwise, I'll send them along to the Surry Arts
Council. Call me at 660-627-8819 or email at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Next year for
sure!!!! Best, Mark Hanley

I noticed that Barney's pant legs dried awfully fast, even though Gomer
filled the gun port
with gas. But, did you also notice how fast the gas dried up on the
floor, I know gas goes
quickly, but I'm glad it doesn't go that fast in real life........Dave

I just saw an advertisement for a 2-pack DVD set of 16 TAGS episodes from
Walgreens on sale for $5. The 16 episodes are the usual ones that are
out there on public domain. The box says "TAGS Collector's Edition" with
a picture of Andy, Opie, Barney and Aunt Bee. They are produced by
Diamond Entertainment (2002). Has anyone purchased these and can tell us
about their quality, whether the epilogues are included, has original
music and are uncut? Any advice would be appreciated.
