For the past few years, I've had a hobby of photographing Rock City Barns.
Many of you on the Digest live in parts of the country where they may be and
I was wondering if you could email me and let me know about them. So far,
I've gotten to see about 20 I think. I'd like to try to find more when I'm
on my way to Mayberry Days.
Mayberry says thanks and happy motoring!

Greetings, Carolyn from the home of Rock City - Chattanooga, Tennessee!

Rock City lists a few of the barns and their location on its web site:
http://www.seerockcity.com/seebarns/default.asp

I'm not sure how many are still around, but I'd be willing to bet a google
search will turn up a lot of them.

Lots of luck to you and yours!

street!

Just got back from Florida and noticed that Don "Knott" is running as an
election official in the Stuart area, while Andy "Griffiths" is running for the
school board in the Florida Keys. Any other election sighting out there?

I didn't think that Andy deserved Helen's wrath in the episode when Andy's
cousin Gloria came to stay with them after breaking up with her fiance.
When Andy invited Gloria to the movies, Helen was angry. He was kinda
between a rock and a hard place......trying to comfort a family member and
keep his girlfriend happy at the same time.

Watching Mrs. Mendlebright take her money out of the bank when she bumped
into Barney out front of the bank. There is a big sign above the bank door
"Mayberry Bank", 2 smaller signs to each side of the door reading "Mayberry
Bank", plus Barney is standing in front of a big window that reads "Mayberry
Bank."

By pulling the camera back a bit, the director could have gotten a shot of
all 4 signs. Would have been funny to have someone come up to Barn and ask
where the bank is. Barn could have given him one of his "I can't believe
you said that" looks. You know, the kind he frequently gives Gomer or
Goober.

I apologize if I caused a ruckus about Helen Crump. Its hard when
characters are changed but I thought Helen was very supportive of
Andy. Aunt Bee and Opie. She even moved all the way to Cleveland
She did speak her mind and after the lovely Miss Peggy anyone would
seem shrill. Times were changing and Helen ( I thought) was a lady
who had a sense of who she was and loved her community. Anyway , she
has been a role model for all us at the big house. We can't cook leg of
lamb but we don't throw em either... I would guess all guys would want a
Miss Ellie or a Miss Peggy in their lives but its the Helens of the
world that do most of the pickin up and puttin down in life.
Regards, Maude of my soap box.

Could anyone give me the context of the scene when Barney says, "There are none
so blind as those who will not see?" It's been preying on my mind. Thanks.

Re: Now, here is my question. Should I try to go to Mayberry Days?

Only you know your bankbook, Bee. But, if that's not an issue, I vote
for GO! Andy don't make public appearances every day, you know. This
is BIG! Have a friend look in on the creech-tures - they'll be fine!

Gonna be in Hendersonville, NC for Labor Day weekend. I wanted to get some
recommendations for restaurants in the area that have good ol' home-cooking
like Aunt Bee would make (or any restaurant that you think is "extree good").

Thanks in advance.

I just thought of another time that Andy could have easily avoided Helen's
wrath. In the "Dinner at Eight" episode, when Andy was forced to eat his third
spagetti dinner of the evening at Helen's house, Helen assumed that Goober had
given Andy the phone message she left, so she was quite angry that Andy didn't
show up and kept her and her uncle waiting. Andy could have avoided the
difficulty of the situation had he only TOLD Helen that Goober did NOT give him
the message! Then she could have gotten mad at Goober, instead!

Hello y'all! This episode brought up several questions for me if I can
remember them:

   1. Is Brushey a mispronunciation of Nate Bracey or vice versa? Were
the names just similar? Maybe Nate was just a popular name the
      year those boys were born.
   2. If he drank why was Otis Campbell the "town drunk"? Wouldn't he
have been arrested for public drunkness or for being in possession
of moonshine? Mayberry was a dry county except for the spirits
sold at Weaver's dept. Store or the Cider that turned hard.
   3. Off Topic, but when did Gomer meet Lou Ann Poovey? For someone who
never got around women he was pretty comfortable with both Lou Ann
& Miss Bunny. Of course the latter was Sgt. Carter's girl so that
      probably made it easier.
   4. That was some fancy Ice Cream Thelma Lou bought & for just 40ยข!
Ben & Jerry & Hagen Daas should be so cheap.

Dear Bee in Concord,
Go for it !! 10 years from now will your business know that you
closed for a few days? We all fail to take the time to enjoy the life
that we are given because of the holy dollar.Life is so short at best ,
so don't miss Mayberry Days . I hope to see you there .

I think I know how Barney's pants leg got dry from the gasoline. Since he had
to wait in the truck, he lit a match and dried them out.... (One false move and
Blooey!!!!!!!!!)

To those who cited the "third party" discussion, and how Helen got a little
upset at that....Good Answer to my Helen question. That was a time that
she got a little riled that Andy was truly innocent. The Darling
incident---I think she had a right to be upset at Briscoe and the gang,, and
Andy was the easiest outlet to vent her frustration.

The Hollywood trip and Darlene Mason was another good example of the point,
Thanks

As far as the marriage rumors..well that was Barney's fault.

Bottom line, Andy just didn't know how to handle Helen when another woman
was in the picture...No wonder poor Ellie or Peggy ever came back for a
visit.

As far as Barney facials, don't forget the look he gave as the realtor
sticking his head back in the house after the customers left, when Opie
exposed some true facts about the house
