If anyone has to dodge that section of I40, go to the website of the state's
travel and transportation department and they will have updates of road
conditions. In July, we were on I26 and had to dodge westbound I40 outside
Asheville, so we took I26 to route 25 which took us to Newport and we picked up
I40. Maybe you can take the reverse of this and pick up I40 again. You can
also go to Yahoo and use their map service to frind a way to go.

Hey everybody. In the photo, I’m on the second row, far right with my
hands crossed with my white WBMUTBB t-shirt on. My wife always said I
was big enough for 1 ½ a boy. I think she’s right, that’s why my name
on the digest is Horatio. Looking forward to Mayberry Days again this
year. I competed in the trivia last year (privately) and I only got
about six right. Could not hold a candle to the lady in the red dress.
My son did come in second place in the kids trivia last year and I hope
he brings home the gold this year. I sure know he would like to have
one of them medals like Opie did. Well go to go and Mayberry says
thanks and Happy Motoring. Horatio,(Kevin)

I'm with you Bob. I haven't gotten to Mayberry Days but with my Official
North Carolina plate on the front of my car and Barney on my back bumper
stating, Nip It, Nip It, Nip It I am in Mayberry Daze every day around
here. Mary Grace in Georgia

All carnival scenes from both episodes were done on the Desilu soundstage.
The establishing outdoor carnival segments were all library stock footage.

Who said, "You'd better gird up your loins, mister, because you're going to
have a fight on your hands?" I think it was Barney, but I may be way off. If
it's not a TAGS quote, please forgive me.

Hi folks....I just came back to Nashville from Greensboro, and I want to give
you some heads-up if you're planning to make the trip to Mount Airy for MD's.
For those of you (and I know there are some) who would normally travel I-40
East through the mountains of Tennessee and NC through Asheville, you will need
to take an alternate route. The Interstate is closed between the TN/NC line
and milepost 20 in NC due to the highway being washed away from Ivan's squals
and the Pigeon River getting rather mean. As and alternate, might I suggest
detouring from I-40E to I-81N just outside Knoxville. Stay on I-81 towards
Wytheville, VA and take I-77S/I-74E into Mt. Airy. It's about 23 miles
further, but the scenery is gorgeous and there's not as much up & down and
twisting & turning. Plus, rather than two steep mountain passes to scale,
you have one that isn't really that bad. All in all, the time difference will
not be noticeable aTALL! If someone can come up with a better route, please by
all means post it, but I normally drive I-40 all the way and had to make a
detour in Winston-Salem (near the new guitar pick store) onto US52 up to Mt.
Airy, and picked up I-74/I-77 to I-81 back to I-40. They're not sure when I-40
will be open again, but for now, that looks like the best alternate to me.
Have a great MD's! Wish I could've made it this year! **Barn (Ron McLendon)

Yesterday my husband and I went to Six Flags Over Texas for my birthday. While
we were there, we each got a snow cone, or, as they arre called now, shaved
ice. I guess that's because they don't actually serve them in those paper
cones anymore. That way, no one can bite off the end, sip out all the syrup,
and hand you back nothing but the ice. I didn't see hide nor hair of Vicki
Harms hanging around there. I guess it was because they didn't have raspberry
snow cones. Anyway, while we were eating our snow cones, a lady came to our
table and, with a heavy accent that I was not able to identify, asked us where
we got the snow cones and what they were called. After I told her, I turned to
my husband and said. "You know, I don't think she's from around here. As a
matter of fact, I'd say she's from...somewheres else."

It has gotten to the point at our house that we can hardly have a conversation
about any subject without relating it to TAGS and throwing in a quote or two.
My husband says I need to go to TAGS Anonymous for detox. But I don't have a
problem I can quit thinking about and watching TAGS any old time I want to.
At least that's what I tell myself......

Mary Grace Gossage
"I'll tell you the truth, Barn. If I was Vicki Harms and a 35 year old man
came up to my house with a snow cone in his hand, I wouldn't even answer the
door."

>>>Thelma Lou..Mrs. Larch was the neighbor where Aunt Bee went to work on the
quilt. If it had been Clara..who was Opie's Piano teacher..don't you think
she would have been a little suspicious at his progress??<<<

>>> think that was some other friend's house. Clara would have instantly
caught on that it wasn't really Opie playing the piano.<<<

Thanks for the corrections. Yes, you're right -- that wouldn't have made much
sense! Obviously, I *didn't* have my bucket on straight! Besides, it was
right next door, and we know that Clara didn't live right next door to the
Taylors. (In theory, at least. I was watching "My Fair Ernest T. Bass" a
while back and took notice in the outdoor scenes after Andy and Barney dragged
Ernest T. out of Mrs. Wiley's house that her house was actually right next door
to Andy's house! And we all know that practically everyone in Mayberry lives
right across from the church!)

My friend came up with a good trivia question, (he is
a part-time barber, and Floyd is his favorite
character). Any guesses as to how many haircuts Andy
received over the course of the show? I remember
Barney getting a haircut only once, but Floyd gave him
uneven sideburns, and of course, they both got
manicures. We did think he might have gotten his
haircut in more episodes than he didn't.
