Howard's car was definitely a Chevy. I think it was a 1963 either a Bel Air
or Biscayne. I am guessing a Biscayne because it was only a two door and
had very little crome. Emmette also drove a non Ford. His was either a
1953 or 1954 Chrysler product. I have also seen a Chevrolet Corvair drive
through Mayberry and I also saw a 1959 Buick sitting on the street as well
as a 1959 Chevy, so there were a variety of makes and models used in
background scenes.

I was just studying the map of Mayberry County which was drawn by Robert
Turner. Now I am not a cartographer by any stretch of the imagination, but
several things struck me as quite peculiar. When you look at Myers Lake, you
will see that most of it is in Stokes County. In one of the Mayberry RFD
episodes (now I know that is different from TAGS) Sam Jones takes a city
planner out to Myers Lake and she asked him if the town ever considered
developing it. Now why would a town want to develop a lake area that is in the
next county? I also saw that Crouch's Woods is quite a distance south of
Mayberry. Now I know there is not a scale on the map, but that sure seems a
long way for Robin Hood and his Merrymen (Opie and Friends) to go to play.
Also, Sam Jone's farm is almost as far from Mayberry as Centerville is, yet Sam
could be head of the City Council.
Don't mean to be picky, but it makes me think. My wife says I have too much
time on my hands to think about these trivial trivialities, but just wondering
if anyone else has any thoughts on this?

Yes, that was Howard's car, a '64 Biscayne (lower trim version of the Impala;
believe it or not, this has actually come up before on the list). Chevys
periodically pop up in the background--especially a couple of '59s that I see
from time to time--because crew members allowed their own cars to be used
whenever the directors were short on cars for the town. But rarely do we ever
see a
car up close, driven by a principal actor, that's something other than a Ford
product, and that particular episode was one of those rare instances.

Another such instance: the handyman played by Edgar Buchanan, drove a truck
that I believe to be a Chevy or a GMC. And I think during one of the later
color episodes, a couple of state police officers even drive up in a 1966 Chevy
patrol car, an Impala or Biscayne.

Bee,

You are correct in seeing Howard driving a Chevy. It was a 1964 Chevy Biscayne
2-Door. I also thought that Ford supplied all vehicles in the show but maybe
that was just in the early years. In the movie "Return To Mayberry", Andy was
driving a Chevy and Barney had a Chevy as a patrol car.

Hi my Mayberry friends,
For those who live in the South......Wal-Mart has
a southern based magazine called "Y'all"..... Our own Andrew Samuel Griffith is
on the cover. It is a really nice interview and also has an update on Nancy
Stafford who played Michelle on Matlock.

                                                                   Take care,

On Thursday, Feb and I were sitting in the foyer of the Unicoi
County, Tennessee Sheriff's Department hoping to talk to the Sheriff
(It turned out he was very busy next door at the Courthouse, so we
weren't able to--had to get the ice cream home before it
melted)...but I digress.

It was about 4:45 PM, and the Sheriff's Department dispatch office
was just around the corner from where we were at. I had heard the TV
in the background, but didn't really pay attention, when all of a
sudden I heard Barney talking.........I told Feb, "hey, the Sheriff's
Dispatcher are watching TAGS." Then she heard Barney too.

Jim and Feb,

Flag Pond, TN

I've been watching the new TAGS CDs and seeing scenes in the middle that
I've never seen before! How exciting this is!! The quality seems
excellent to me. PTL for this new release and let's hope for the entire
collection to come out in time.

We received our TAGS dvds on Friday, and as expected it is great. I would like
to take a moment to plug Weaver's. Anything TAGS related that you are looking
to purchase, go to Weaver's... they have an incredible selection and they are
truly wonderful people. I live in rural Arkansas and try to always buy from
local folks, even if it costs a little more. It's worth it to have those folks
in our community. Same applies to Weaver's. They carry things that I would
have never been able to get since I'm out here in the sticks. So, please if
you can, shop at Weaver's first!!

Folks, I just got my Season 1 episodes and they are just unbelievable in
quality and clarity. For years now I have fiddled with antenna positioning to
find a station from Cincy or Chillicothe that I could watch TAGS on. The
reception was poor and each show was full of commercials. Like many of you,
there are epilogues on each that I have never seen. It may be a bit premature,
but does anyone have any idea when season two will be released? These current
ones seem to be selling briskly everywhere. My only wish with these DVD's is
that my Dad had lived to see Barney Fife whenever he wanted. This is my first
holiday season without him due to his passing in August and it is a struggle to
hold my head up at times. In a small way, TAGS keeps me in contact with fond
memories of him. ( In a last moment of lucidity, Dad smiled and then laughed
heartily over the "Mayberry Band" episode about a week before passing.) Sorry
to ramble on, everyone, but I just want everyone who can still hug their
dads to have an even more blessed Thanksgiving this year. Carpe Diem!

I just received my 1st season DVD's. I've been watching TAGS for 20 years,
and I'm seeing
things on these DVD's that I've never seen. I love these uncut episodes.
