We started the WBMUTBB chapter 13 years ago this month (or was it 14?).
Anyhow, happy anniversary to you Allan, for making this board as fine as
it is. And for all you great contributors out there, happy anniversary
to one of the greatest BB's on the net. It's been fun.

Although I have all of the episodes recorded onto DVD in their entirety,
I was looking forward as much as anyone to the Season 1 release. The
clarity amazes me in some shots. Like the concrete wall at the rear of
the jail cells. I can now see the roughness of the concrete, which
wasn't evident before. It can be a bit bothersome also, as in The
Manhunt when the scene switched between Andy and Barney outdoors at the
squad car (very sharp image) to the indoor courthouse shot showing the
captain with a lot of film grain. The clarity of the stuff they put on
the hood of the squad car to dull it is great. Although I'll be
astounded if they release anything past season 4 or 5, on this
Thanksgiving Day, I'm thankful for this release and thankful for having
a friend like Allan "Floyd" Newsome.

I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I am back home after spending a wonderful Thanksgiving with my family. God has
blessed my family so much and I am truly thankful. After all the work of
planning the Thanksgiving meal, and all of the cleanup I sit here in the quiet
of my house and count my blessings. My husband cooked the turkey and did the
majority of the work to make the meal a huge success. I am truly blessed to
have him to help with such a big undertaking. I am so thankful that almost
all of my family was able to be together once again, with a new little great
nephew to rejoice over.

I am also very thankful for Allan, Jim and all of you here at the digest. You
all bring so much joy to my heart as we talk about TAGS and all the wonderful
lessons we have learned from it. I can't imagine a nicer place to visit than
the digest (or of course places like New Castle, IN, or Mt. Airy, NC) or nicer
folks to visit with than all of you here at the digest.

After all the hustle and bustle of getting ready for the holiday, I can almost
hear Reverend Tucker saying.... "slow down.....WHAT'S your hurry". Can't you??

Happy Thanksgiving,
Anita Carpenter

I've seen a '59 Dodge before in the earliest episodes, that may be what you
saw.

This is to be put in the next Digest.

I thought all of the cars were supposed to be Fords.

Thanks for the info. I don't have one, either, but may have to try to
find one of those $40 models!

Got my second set of DVD's and they seem to work perfectly. Thank Goodness.

I've been noticing lots of things in the first season. It's been really neat
watching the show in the correct order as it was meant to be seen. You get a
better idea of the progression of the series.

1.. Barney had a car long before he met Hubcaps Lesch, later Old man Weaver
is seen driving it. Maybe Barney just borrowed it? Or maybe it belonged to his
parents and they sold it to Weaver?
2.. The early part of the first season had some unique camera moves (check
out the dissolve on the courthouse door in the very first episode, Also I
remember seeing a very high camera angle in the court house interior that I
don't recall ever seeing again later on in the series. These gave the show more
of a movie like feel instead of the typical flat camera work that most TV shows
of this era display.)
3.. The man we know and love as Rafe Hollister shows up as a Moonshiner in
the first season.
4.. Check out the kitchen to living room door in the first episode. It has a
doorknob and only swings into the kitchen. Later on in the season it get the
doorknob removed and is converted to swing both ways like a restaurant kitchen
door.
5.. Look for the wall lamps in the courthouse and Andy's house. These seemed
to disappear pretty quick in the first season as well.
6.. Barney had a steady girlfriend called Hilda Mae before he met Thelma Lou.
7.. Does anyone remember seeing a big double door closet in Opies room after
the first season?
8.. Emma Brand lives out in the country in the Manhunt episode but later
lives in town when Ellie moves to town.
9.. That mysterious door to the left of the jail cells. I guess we will never
know what it was for. Unless it was the boiler room. Andy does mention in the
Gentleman Dan episode that the floors had never been cleaner except for the
time the boiler busted.
10.. Andy has his sleeves rolled up a lot in the first season but this seems
to fade away as the series went on.
11.. Everyone knows about Jim Lindsey's amazing guitar playing but did you
ever notice that the drummer from Freddy Fleets band can get a full drum set
sound out of just banging a set of drum sticks on a jail cell door? Listen the
the very end of Jim Lindsey's jam session in the jail cell with Freddy Fleets
band. Maybe he took lessons from Mr Darling, only using drum sticks instead of
a jug. (Man's entitled to his opinion)
12.. Andy plays guitar in almost every episdode (even if it is only in the
epilog on some shows) in the early part of the first season.
That's about all I can think of for now, but I'll keep watching.

Dapper Dan
On my word as a gentleman.
