>>> 4.. Check out the kitchen to living room door in the first episode. It
has a doorknob and only swings into the kitchen. Later on in the season it
get the doorknob removed and is converted to swing both ways like a
restaurant kitchen door.
Good eye, Dan. A couple of other things about the Taylor home in episode
one: as one enters the front door, there's a step down. It's only in the
very first episode. Also, there's a lamp shaped like a lamb on Opie's
bedside table; in later episodes, there's a globe there.
Should anybody be looking for such a lamp, there's one on eBay right now:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4056&item=6133867829&rd=1
The base is cracked and the shade is missing, but the starting price is
under five bucks. If the above link doesn't work, just search for item
6133867829 or the words "vintage lamb table lamp."

Here are a couple of tough trivia questions:
1. Who was the barber in Mayberry before Floyd? (no, the answer is not
"that other Floyd" - there was someone even earlier than he)
2. What is the cover price of the Mayberry Gazette?
--Paul
P.S. The answers can be found be very carefully observing the new DVD set.
I never noticed these gems until now, because the picture quality on my old
VHS tapes wasn't good enough.
P.P.S. What do you mean you haven't bought it yet? This is the age of
science know-how! Electronal marvels!

I had a funny Mayberry Moment during lunch today with my 2 year old son.
My wife asked him, "Did you like Barney Fife?"
My son replied in his cute 2 year old speech, "I like Barney Fice."
My son must have been reading some articles about the "Sheriff without a gun".

I've had a lot of problems with DVDs. CDs also seem to wear out. I'm about to
turn back to Mayberry times with records and black and white TV, even if it
means I have to watch TV programs when they run and movies at the theatre.

>>>I've been noticing lots of things in the first season. It's been really

I just received my own DVD set a few days ago and, what with being gone over
Thanksgiving, I'm not quite done with the first disc. But I, too, am
appreciating being able to watch the shows in order, as they were originally
seen. I have already noticed some of the things that Dapper Dan pointed out --
interesting, aren't they?
Here's something else I noticed. I knew that the very first episode had Barney
delivering the punch line about "Cousin Andy," but I thought that was the only
time that a cousin relationship was mentioned. In fact, I recall Sheldon
Leonard on at least one occasion saying that the cousin business was never
mentioned again after the first show. However, I noticed that Barney calls
Andy "cousin" in the second episode and again a few episodes later. So the
cousin bit *wasn't* just a one-time line. For those of you who have watched
the whole set, have you heard any other mentions of the cousin relationship?

I sure am enjoying my season one DVD's! Although I've only watched a quarter
of the set, I am already looking forward to the release of more sets. I
believe someone mentioned that seasons two and three are already slated for
release, but I don't recall when. Can somebody re-post this? I need to mark
my calendar and start saving my pennies!!

I found a hidden feature in the TAGS Season 1 DVD set.
Although there is no subtitle option avail on the DVD itself you can see
subtitles if your TV supports them.
Just turn on the subtitle option on the TV set. I have mine set to show
subtitles when I mute the TV automatically and
thats how I found out the subtitles existed on the DVD's
