I think we talked about that dial Payphone a while back.. I work for the
phone company, so this kinds sticks in my mind. I believe we concluded
that there were so few Payphones manufactured at that time, that in all
likelihood there was just one standard Payphone frame. So in a place
like Mayberry, they would install the standard Dial Payphone...but the
dial would not be operable. You would still have to pick up the phone
(deposit your dime) and tell Sarah what you wanted.
Watching the Christmas episode on Christmas Eve IS a great tradition.
We've done that for the past few years. because our local station always
shows it then. Its one of the few times I get my family to watch TAGS
with me.
Hey we're all family here, so I've just got to put in a plug for
Weaver's. It's a free country, and wherever your buy your DVDs it "your
business brother". I shop Best Buy and Wal-Mart and all of those, but
whenever I get a chance to help out Mt. Airy, this club, and the guys
that make it work...I'm going to buy at Weaver's..even if it costs an
extra buck or two. I put the Season 1 DVDs on my Christmas list..but I
sent the Weaver's link to my Mrs. Claus.
If you vote to keep the cannon....I mean buys your DVDs somewhere's
else...that's OK too...but let's not insult ole Ben by advertising that
fact on the Digest. OK?

I can't even count how much of what all comes out of my mouth originated in
Mayberry. I do it so much my family has picked it up too. If'n somebody looks
at me funny, I say "oh, that's an Andyism" or " 'scuse my Mayberryisms!" They
usually grin for there are few folks anywhere who aren't familiar with our
beloved hometown even if they're not as devoted as we are. PTL!

Tim Bradshaw's posting about the courthouse signs made me wonder something.
Fonzie's jacket and Archie Bunker's chair are in the Smithsonian. Is anything
from TAGS there?

For those who have not yet, but would like to sign the guest book for Barbara
Forrest, Emmett's wife, you may go to this site which will be good for the
next 5 days.
She was a class act and I hope all will take the time to go the extra mile
and add a note to the site.

Our pastor is a great TAGS fan and will use show clips in sermons. I got a
call from his secretary late Friday that he was looking for the Christmas
episode. I figured he was wanting to use something out of it for next
Sunday. Well, I have about 20 tapes from classes I do with the Andy
Griffith Bible Study and the Christmas Story is one of them. They were just
copied off the air.
But my wife and I got to thinking that since that's episode #11 and is part
of the 1st year, it would be nice to get him his own personal, nice quality,
set of episodes that he can draw this and other sermons from. All we have
to do is pick up the new boxed DVD set of the 1 year of TAGS. Yeah, right.
So, off to Target. No luck. Off to company party and later pop in at
Wal-mart. Just an empty slot where they used to be. Since everything is
open late, off to another Target, same story. Last stop was at another
Wal-mart, same empty slot. Next morning, my wife is at Sam's at 7:00 and is
able to lay her hands on the last copy they have in inventory (I didn't know
Sams ever actually ran out of anything). I presented it to the preacher
Saturday afternoon at the 1st performance of our Christmas music.
Talk about your Christmas miracle!

The posting with the story about the Widow Jensen brought tears to my eyes.
Thanks for the wonderful reminder of what Christmas is really about. Don't it
just clutch ya?
As for speaking in TAGS - We hosted a dessert get together for some family and
friends and I said, "No coffee, tea or punch, thank you." My niece wanted to
know what that was a quote from and my husband told her. She said that from
now one whenever she heard me say something that she didn't understand the
context, she would just assume it was from TAGS. Made me proud to be a light
in her dark little world. ;-) I also say hey instead of hi or hello. I've
often wondered if that is a Southernism. Can anybody tell me? I love to speak
TAGS and strive to be accurate about it.
Carol, from gray western NY
PS I would also buy a set of Mayberry colors crayons if Weaver's or anyone
should offer them. Thanks a lot blue.
Kind behind the eyes.
