I agree, I thought the Christmas card from the Newsoms was "very clever" to
quote Barney.

I also kinda like fruit cake, there is a place in Corsicana, TX that makes very
good ones. As I recall, Aunt Bee was nervous about fruit cakes because of a
brother she had. How much alcohol do they put in those things?

In my recent edition of "Learn a Month," the subject was "Odd Facts
Known By Few." For those who do not subscribe to this $.15 magazine, I
mean QUARTER!, I thought I'd pass along some facts your way.

"Professor" Neal Brower announced at the Barney Chapter meeting this weekend
that he will be teaching his class on "The Andy Griffith Show" at Alamance
Community College in Burlington, NC this spring. It will be a 10 week course on
Wednesday nights from 7-10 pm beginning in March (thru May). No other details
at this time, but I am planning to attend and hope other WBMUTBB members within
driving range will also be there (there is usually a minimum number of
registrations to hold the class). Please share any details that you hear and I
will do the same.

As we approach the end of another year, I thought I'd write a poem to my
favorite
TV show & small town.

" Memories That Last "

Fast away the years do pass,
but I've got memories,
so precious & so sweet,
of a small town that will last.

Captured forever in black & white,
there was a kindly sheriff,
his aunt, his small son,
and a deputy named Fife.

>From the courthouse on Main Street,
to Floyd's barbershop,
Myers Lake, Thelma Lou's porch,
to Goobers garage from some pop.

There was laughter & joy,
to our eyes brought some tears,
this magical place called Mayberry,
could calm all our fears.

Andy was so loving,
he always helped his friends,
Barney was so funny,
he upheld the law right to the end.

Even though the years have passed,
so quickly they do go,
in our hearts the memories last,
of this sweet place from long ago.

Happy New Year from Dave Millard

"As for me, my little brain isn't very bright; choose for me, oh, Santa Claus,
what you think is right."
And as for me, I'm not clever enough to do a Christmas to you, Allan. But I do
thank you for all you do throughout the year for the Digest and in personal
appearances to keep the spirit of TAGS in our minds and hearts. I met you at
Mayberry Days a few years ago and found you to be a real down-to-earth,
likeable kind of Mayberry guy. Keep it up.
Merry Christmas to you and yours.

>>>That concoction Andy mixes up for Otis' hangover has always looked pretty
disgusting ... I seem to remember a note from somewhere that Hal or Andy
confirmed that Hal did, if fact, drink that stuff. Do I actually remember
that as being fact, or did my cider turn hard?

Not only did Hal Smith actually drink it, but the egg yolk didn't break, and
he had to swallow it whole! This contributed to the hilarious facial
expressions which followed. Hal told this story in the 30th anniversary
special broadcast by TBS back in 1990.

Hal also confirmed that even though Andy prepared the "fixer-upper" in the
episode (Dogs, Dogs, Dogs), the hands we see on screen actually belonged to
prop master Reggie Smith. When TV shows are shot with one camera, it's
common practice to use a stand-in for the star whenever they're shooting a
camera angle where the star's face isn't visible in the shot.
