Hello Mayberry friends - Well, I didn't get the TAGS dvd for Christmas, but
I did get a Gone With the Wind dvd for Christmas! (My favorite movie of all
time!) So my husband and I went after Christmas shopping at the new Sam's
Club and I finally found a copy of the dvd! It was the last one on the
shelf and actually, I hadn't been able to find it at any other stores. So
I'm glad that I have it now, and I've watched the first two shows so far. I
have to limit myself or I might go on Mayberry overload! Y'all have a
Mayberry day... Lisa

Got the first season DVDs for Christmas, and I must
say I am VERY happy with the picture and sound
quality. I've had other TAGS DVDs, but these are MUCH
better. But would it have killed them to put SOME sort
of extras in the set? Hopefully future seasons will
include the pilot, or some commentary. Don and Andy
are both still around, wouldn't it be great to watch
an episode with them, and listen to some of their
memories from those golden days? I've got the Dick Van
Dyke sets, and I LOVE listening to Carl Reiner and
Dick Van Dyke reminisce.

I was wondering.....were there 2 drug stores in Mayberry? It looks much
different than the one that was owned by Fred(I believe that was his name)

There are several drugstores in town, including Fred Walker's (where Ellie
worked), Crawford's (where Opie worked), the Franklyn Pharmacy (the bus stop
is right out front), and Mrs. Mason's (Barney and Gomer had film developed
there in "The Great Filling Station Robbery.") Some of these may have been
the same stores with different owners over the years.

One thing I noticed: the show was shot at Desilu, and Lucille Ball's
picture appears on a TV Guide cover at Walker's drugstore, in the "Those
Gossipin' Men" episode. In the same show, Elvis pops up on another magazine
cover.
>>>
In "The New Doctor," when Barney knocks the door bell down in the drugstore,
take a close look at the TV guide on the left end of the top shelf. It
appears to be the January 28, 1961 edition, featuring Andy Griffith and
Ronnie* Howard on the cover!

*In the early years of his career, young Master Howard's first name was
often spelled Ronnie, though on TAGS it was always Ronny.

Concerning the Christmas episode where Ben Weaver mentioned selling spirits.
Sometimes the writers added and deleted things in the scripts to meet
their needs. You must remember, in 1960, they had NO IDEA that fools like
us would be dissecting these shows over 40 years later. They just didn't
realize how good these shows were. I heard Howard Morris on a radio
interview a couple of years ago talking about playing the part of Ernest T.
Bass. He said, "I played Ernest T. in six episodes 40 years ago and I've
done many things since. I'm 80 years old and I still can't walk into a
hotel lobby without someone saying, "There's Ernest T Bass".' This show has
had a great impact on our society and it's people.

My husband discovered something wonderful with the new radio we just
bought! We can set the alarm to play a CD and also play a certain song off
that CD.
We've been waking up to the TAGS theme song "The Fishing Hole" I tell you
that is one great way to start the day... having Andy sing you awake!!!
I don't mind the alarm going off in the mornings now!!!
All you have to do is "snap" and I'm up!!! ..... OK actually just have
Andy sing and I'm up!!!

Has anyone else seen this? (Its on one tape I have somewhere, and I cannot find
it right away)
In the intro on one episode, you actually see Opie's rock go into the water and
make a splash. For the life of me, I cannot remember where I saw this so I
guess I'm going to have to get out my VHS collection and look through it.
Has anyone else seen this?

I was watching Elvis in 'Blue Hawaii' on AMC this past Sunday afternoon. As
many of you may or may not know, Howard McNear plays the part of the owner of a
tourist sightseeing company and the father of Elvis' love interest. When
Elvis, who works for "Floyd", lands in jail after causing a fight, Floyd fires
him at the police precinct. "You're fired!!!" yells Floyd, not once but three
times. Did Donald Trump take notice?
'Blue Hawaii' was released in 1961 after the first season of TAGS was filmed.
Did Floyd see Elvis' photo on the magazine in Walker's Drugstore? Did Floyd
see Andy and Elvis together on 'The Steve Allen Show' in 1956? I don't know,
but Floyd sure did "fire" Elvis with all the audacity of Donald Trump on 'The
Apprentice.'
