Since Jason didn't know what a picnic ham was, he must not be from around
here. I'll bet he's from Eckmondwight, England.

Just wanted to take a minute and thank all of you who responded to my message
on Tim "Goober" Pettigrew's back surgery. He received all of your cards and
it really made his day.
He shared them with all of his visitors who stopped by. He has a Mayberry
room in is basement and all of your great cards will be displayed. The surgery
itself was more extensive that they originally thought, but went well and he
is home and starting the recuperating process. He has graduated from walker to
cane so I'm sure its just a matter or time. I have had to hold back from
asking him to do his "Chester" imitation though. Again, thanks so much for the
great cards, photo's, and letters. They meant a lot and were really
appreciated.

RE: Picnics

Seems I was the only one to respond to "Picnics" as being chicken. (I know they
are ham too) I saw one again this week in the store. It was a package of
"UFO's" (Unidentified Frying Objects) or pieces of chicken I could not name.
Or, sort of a hodge podge of chicken parts. It was clearly labeled
"picnic"...And it was cheap......BTW, wasn't it William Holden in "Picnic"
instead of Cary Grant?

We've made so many lists, why not one to start the new year???? Everyone
knows Thelma Lou has an office job but we don't know WHO she works for or
WHAT she does, or her last name for that matter. Actually, if you dig deep
in the record books down at the county clerk's office (and I'm sure they are
gooooooooooooood books) I bet there's plenty we don't know.....

How about Barney's code 6-12? He said to Nurse Peggy, "I can tell you this
much, it's 2 threes and two sixes. And what about Myra Koontz? Opie never
did find out why Barney wants to take Thelma Lou to the duck pond. Aunt Bee
never met Mrs. Parker......shame, she could have taught her how to cook.
There's plenty more of unsolved mysteries surrounding Mayberry. Send in your
"We don't know" submissions.................Call it the book of "Odd Facts
Unknown By Many".

Tom, where was that? Being that I'm only 'bout an hour away, I get to
Knoxville frequently. Any place that plays good old 14A has my
business! I can see it now, checkered table clothes and all!

Hey Barb, yes I did see the TV Guide 20 greatest moments. I consider it an
honor that the Reunion special made the Top Ten TV moments of the year.
Seeing some of the other selections, its was obvious the voters had younger,
more radical preferences than most of us, so it was great just to make the
list...but you're right, number one in our heart.

Actually, it would be hard to agree on a Top Ten events of Andy Griffith
Fans this year. Here's a swag for pondering or comment.

1) The unveiling of the Andy and Opie Statue in Raleigh attended by Andy
        (significant event for posterity sake)
2) The Andy Griffith Show Reunion special airing
(due to the fact that all fans could watch it, and it was great)

3) Tie
Mayberry Days in Mt Airy
Mayberry in the Midwest

5) The Dedication of the highway named after Andy Griffith

6) Media coverage of the reunion show including Andy and Don on Larry King
Live

7) The wedding of one of our very own in Mt. Airy during Mayberry Days with
Betty Lynn and Maggie Peterson Mancuso as honorary bridesmaids.

8) Andy interview on CBS this morning, with first time camera shots of his
spread on St Mateo Island (correct?)

9) The TVLand Awards show featuring Andy, Don and Jim Nabors

10) tie
The airing of the Christmas Episode during the holidays, which always
brings a tear to our eyes.
Allan Newsome continues his fine work hosting the tagsrwc websites and
wbmutbb Digest that we all love

Well I probably missed some, and everyone will have their opinions of the
order...but all in all I'd say it was a pretty awesome year for our favorite
show. Of course we had our sadness too with the loss of Buddy Ebsen, and a
few other show-related personalities.
(Help me out here, Paul G or others)

Though it would be tough to match that year, hopefully 2004 will be special
for TAGS fans as well.
Happy New Year to all--Don't forget Episode 1 will be aired twice by TVLand
on New Years day 7:30 and 10 Eastern, I believe.

Did we set the record for the most answers to the same question? (Picnic
ham) The only question that remains...
Did William Holden eat Picnics in the Movie Picnic????

"I
suppose swinging a leg of lamb and hitting someone
would be kinda
difficult though."

Can be done. There's a wonderful old Hitchcock
episode called "Lamb to the Slaughter" where Barbara
Bel Geddes kills her husband with a frozen leg of lamb
and serves it, by then roasted, to the policemen while
they are searching her house for the weapon. Roal
Dahl story, I believe.

Hey Y'all,
Hope everyone had a Blessed Christmas and looking
forward to a great Mayberry kind of New Year.
I hope my dear friends here on the digest can settle
a little question my son and I had.
In the episode "Back to Nature" Barney and Gomer
return to camp, after following the Web-Footed
Red-Breasted Lake Loon back to the lake/camp.
As Gomer is explaining what happened to them, while
they were in the woods,Barney adds his little
commentary after Gomer tells them about the snare,
shoelace, fire, and bird (pheasant perhaps the most
difficult species to ensnare)...Anyway when Gomer gets
to the part where he talks about cooking the bird,
does Barney say "To a turn" or "With a turn"?
Hope you all can help me. We figured if anybody could
it would be you good folks here in Mayberry.

                                 Thanks again,
                                       Mike & Matt Z.

Happy New Year!

My dad recieved "No Time For Sergeants" for Christmas. We watched it the
other night. I had never seen it before. That was good. Andy did great
in it. Reminded me of Gomer. Don was pretty funny on it, too!!

I just thought I'd try to start a new list. Ya'll might have already
done this before. You know you're a TAGS fan when:

-When you see someone make a u-turn you yell out, "Citizen's arrest!
Citizen's arrest!"

-When you tell everyone that your hometown is Mayberry

-When you go around quoting lines from TAGS and have to explain to people
why you just said that.

-You start to have withdrawal symptoms if you don't have your daily does
of TAGS.

-When you buy your parents a septic tank for their anniversary!

-When you say, "Yo" instead of "yes"

-When you name your son Opie

-When you can act out an entire episode by yourself.

You all can probably think of some better ones. I'd like to hear them!

Amy

In observance of New Year's Day, let's remember the TAGS episode that
originally aired on New Year's Day 1968 'The Mayberry Chef.' It was written by
James
L. Brooks, who later went on to create 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' 'Room 222'
and 'Taxi.'
Mayberry had its own 'Room 222' in a way. Sure, you didn't have the same type
problems in Miss Crump's class that you did on 'Room 222.' The worst thing
that ever happened was Miss Crump smacking Ernest T. Bass on the hand with a
ruler. Both Ernest T. and Opie fell in love with Miss Crump. History and
education in Mayberry was defined in Aneta Corsaut's first TAGS appearance
'Andy
Discovers America.' Yes, who can forget Mayberry's favorite classroom marked by
that famous oval window!
