Without going into detail; I grew up in an abusive home.

Mayberry Moments quite often overtake my bad memories. For instance in Mr.
McBevee, Andy realizes his error. As a loving dad and a good person he
apologizes to Opie.

Andy then forgives himself for the error of his ways. Speaking of
forgiving, what about All Souls? A loving, healing, blessing filled place.

And who hasn't stood in the check-out line, looking at the impulse buy candy
rack, looking for a Mr. Cookie bar? Trying to contain my giggling, but the
clerk sees my smile and it brightens their day too.

Hope to see everyone in Nashville.

Ted (in INDY)

p.s. Even now, I'm thinking about how Andy and the good citizen's of my
Hometown would've handled the way my ex is suing me for my house.

Paul you were talking about watching TAGS in your mind in the last digest. I
couldn't agree with you more that it is one of the most enjoyable things to do.
I have been in a store......visiting with friends....sitting at the
library....and sometimes even in church! Once a fly got in the sanctuary and I
was wishing Opie could be there to catch it, I always get a kick out of the way
Andy shakes his head at Opie when he sees him catch that fly and listen to it,
don't you?........ When we sing songs that were sung on the show I can see the
folks at All Souls Church singing along with us......when we sing "Leaning on
the Everlasting Arms"....I expect to look around and see Briscoe and the boys
joining in with their beautiful voices. It sure is a nice way to escape for
awhile isn't it?

.......Slow down.... take it eeeeasy.........WHAT'S your
hurry!!..........................

How many of us remember our fathers telling us to go outside and turn the
antenna? My brother was always the "turner" until daddy yelled out the door
"Stop it right there!" Or having to actually get up off the couch and walk
clear across the room to change the channels or turn up/down the volume, or,
heaven forbid, having to adjust the knobs to realign the picture. We only had
3 prime channels, no cable/syndication channels, no infomercials, and
certainly no 24 hour news or weather channels. Heck, you couldn't believe
the weather man anyway - he had no satellite to back up his
predictions.....We looked forward to the "6 PM" news show with Cronkite, or
Huntley and Brinkley. I saved my allowance and purchased my first "vinyl"
album - TV Western Theme Songs! In fact I remember the ugly test tube screen
shot and that awful deep baritone sound that came on after TV went off the
air, around 1 AM. I was the one chosen in the family to take our first check
to the "new" cable company when we switched from antenna to cable in 1968.
My mom's check was for $6.95 - it included the deposit and the first montly
charge. TV was an enigma then - mysterious, magical and exciting. Something
you talked about during the day and watched for a short while AFTER dinner,
not DURING dinner. And if it had to go to the shop for repair, you usually
got a "loaner" while it was being fixed. Our TV was in a fancy console, with
a radio and a turn table and we thought we were uptown folks!!!! And EVERY
show was in black and white..............

If Jenny, the Mayberry Bride, happens to attend the 2004 Mayberry Days (which
I know she will), be sure to buy her some nice 1st wedding anniversary PAPER
gifts. Paper is the traditional gift for a first weding anniversary. I suggest
buying her Mayberry greeting cards, Mayberry artwork, Gary Wedermeyer's
graphic designs, etc. Here are the traditional wedding gifts for the first FIVE
years of marriage:
     1st - Paper
2nd - Cotton (Miss Ellie's Pharmacy cotton, Nurse Mary Simpson's or
Nurse
Peggy's cotton in their medical bags.)
     3rd - Leather (Barney's leather jacket in 'Barney's Sidecar).
     4th - Fruit/Flowers (Only a Rose).
5th - Wood (Wooden figurines that Cousin Virgil carved).

P.S. Just think, on their 20th anniversary, we can buy them some Blue Willow
china like the Taylors had.

Hey ! Fellow Mayberrians,
I also love the pattern of Aunt Bee's china .I'm pretty certain it is called
Blue Willow.
I have a place setting for 12 in that pattern. Occasionally various grocery
chains will
feature it as a promotion in their stores. Thats where I collected my set. We
really enjoy eating off of them, it's like we're dining right there in Aunt
Bee's Kitchen. When
the stores run the promotion they also have the assesory pieces.
I also wanted to comment on the movie "The Music Man", Little Oppie played a
big
role in it. He was absolutly "adoreable" in it !

Subject: Bert Miller's Mayberry Emporium

Folks, if you haven't already done so, you need to stop by Bert Miller's
Mayberry Emporium at http://www.mayberry-emporium.com/html/home.html. You'll
find some unique Mayberry items there that cannot be obtained anywhere else
(even Weaver's). I am very happy with my purchases, and I'm sure you will be,
too. Gary Wedemeyer (a.k.a. Bert Miller) creates beautiful, high-quality items
at reasonable prices. And I can tell you from experience that his customer
service is the best on the planet! He will bend over backwards to make you
happy! Gary is a real prince of a fellow. And, no, I'm not his paid P.R.
person -- I was just so pleased with my experience at the Emporium that I
wanted to pass the word along to all my fellow TAGS fans!

Paul, when you started talking about having a camera in your head I couldn't
help but think about Barney and his mother having clocks in their stomachs that
alerted them to meal times. I wonder how many appliances the human body can
house.

Opie also shed a few tears in the first color episode when he had to explain
to Andy why he intentionally lost his job at Mr. Doaks' store. One of the
many times when Andy underestimated what a fine boy he had raised!

GOOBER: Prob'ly wasn't much of a job noway!
FLOYD: Yeah, who wants to work in a grocery store -- all those fruit flies!

"I'm especially looking for the episode where the Darlings first sing "There is
a Time." Any answers?"

I believe that "There is a Time" was sung by Charlene Darling in the episode
"The Darling Baby" where the Darlings bring Charlene's baby to town to find a
little boy "to pledge his hand and heart" to Andelina and they settle on Opie
as the groom-to-be. It was also sung by Andy in the episode "Guest in the
House" where Aunt Bee's friend's daughter Gloria is staying with the Taylors
after a broken engagement and Helen is not thrilled about it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I am desperately trying to find dishes like aunt Bee's. Does anyone know the
name of the pattern on those dishes ? They were blue and white and had a scenic
pattern on them."

The pattern is called Blue Willow. The last time I saw dishes in that pattern
was at an antique store. I'm not sure if they are still sold as new dishes or
not.

with her alone so I don't have to sit around and watch."
