Bruce, As a lifetime TAGS fan, the Christmas Story is my favorite of all time.
I don't know of any other episode, black or white, that has Christmas as its
theme. This classic is the only one I know. Kirk Daniel [EMAIL

Re: Not in North Carolina - perhaps one of the most famous scenes that lets you
know you are not in NC is when the Coors Beer truck passes by in "Raleigh."
Coors didn't come east until the early 1980's......This one pops up every now
and then.....

...that often mentioned scene where Goober sees his buddy at the service
station as he and the Taylors are leaving the auto show; as Andy gets out of
the
car and heads inside, a Coors beer truck is seen going by in the background.
Unfortunately, Coors wasn't available in the south (or any other part of the
east, for that matter) in the late 1960s. (I once said I recognize the terrain
of that area, as Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, and I think I even got gas at
that station when I was there! It was a Texaco in '99.)

If boiled down to a single thought, it would be bygone memories. When I watch
I recall old times and departed folks. Im reminded of good food, talking,
laughing and eccentric people who could see the quirks in others but not
themselves.

I think of my dad. He was a weekend, bluegrass musician. Every episode that
featured music inspired him to jump up, grab his upright bass and play along.

I think of my grandpa. He always seemed to be wearing a blue or green plaid
shirt that looked like something Andy would wear. He never quite got used to
color TV and insisted on having a black and white set even into the 1980s.

I think of Grandma Brown. She made the best pies and rolls. Like Clara, she
even made good pickles. She seemed to be able to cook as naturally as
breathing. Before she passed away recently, she told my mom to be sure and get
the blackberry pie out of her freezer. Blackberry is my favorite.

Other TAGS characters seemed to have made appearances in my family. There was
at least one Otis who everyone knew drank too much. There were Barneys who
kind of knew something about every subject. There were Briscoes who thought
gatherings werent complete without bringing along your musical instrument.
There were all kinds of kids who, like Opie and his friends, had a great time
playing or roughhousing with each other. There were Goobers and Gomers who
couldnt wait to get a look under the hood of the newest cars. There were
proper ladies who brought potluck dishes and got after rowdy children. A
couple of fun girls who looked a little more glamorous, and were suspected of
possibly being a little naughty. And the Floyds who just seemed to enjoy being
there and talking to whoever came around.

Its the Mayberry moments that make life fun.

>>As I was watching "Opie Steps Up In Class" Saturday night, I thought I
noticed a couple of palm trees as Aunt Bee and Opie were driving up to
the Hollander house. Since I don't think there are any palms in North
Carolina, this would clearly be a production error. The same error is
consistently made on the Comedy Channel's Reno 911 since there are no
palm trees in Reno.<<

Take a look at http://www.ncpalm.homestead.com/

It shows both native palms and non-native palms in North Carolina. Its
neighbor, South Carolina, is known as the palmetto state and has a palm on
the flag.

Lots of palms in Reno, Nevada. A great many hotels have them as well as home
owners.

Margaret I know the Dragnet Episode you are talking about.
The wallpaper paste meatball lady was on there.
I am not certain of the names .
It is so nice to read all the Mayberry means to me essays.
I'm not sensitve ( like Barn ) but Dixon ya made me cry.
Actually if ppl, acted more like Mayberrians perhaps
differences could be settled by sitting down to one of Aunt
Bees pies. . Best diplomacy in the world. I'd go for it.

Subject: TAGS at work

TAGS behavior at work:

Some of my "work habits" I could have picked up from TAGS. For example, now
that I am close to home I pop home for lunch every now and then to have
leftovers or tuna fish sandwiches. Or, if the restaurant across the street is
having a good special, I walk over there.

Sometimes I stop by the local drugstore after lunch and get a candy bar for an
afternoon "pick me up." (I am not however "slender and high spirited.")

When a problem creeps up, I say we have to "nip it in the bud," as do quite a
bit of folks around here.

At 3:00 I naturally take a coffee break (like Howard) where I go upstairs, get
some coffee, then work a couple of more hours and it's time to go home....

However, I do not borrow the squad car to go home.....

What Mayberry Means To Me!

Mayberry...just the name brings peace to my heart. It is a place where I know
almost everyone on a first name basis, unless of course they are my elder, then
out of respect, I would put Mr., Mrs. or Miss in front of their name. Mayberry
is a place where I don't need a television blaring all the time because my
family and friends are so much more interesting to visit with. Mayberry is a
soft, still evening sitting on the front porch and just listening to the quiet
sounds of the town settling down for the night. It is a place where I can
leave my keys in my car in the driveway overnight and not worry if it will be
there in the morning. Mayberry is a place where I can "go to town", walk down
the streets nodding to each person I meet, and know they are my friends. I
might stop and listen to some music from Jim Lindsay or the Darling family,
then just sit a spell and visit with them. Walking down the streets of
Mayberry, I might even get offered a bite of a peanut butter !
 and jelly
sandwich if I'm lucky! Mayberry is a place where I don't have to worry about
crime or bad things happening, except of course every once in a while I might
have to watch out for a kid who will forget and ride his bike on the sidewalk.
Mayberry is a place where everyone watches out for and cares for their fellow
citizens. It would be okay to let my kids run and play outside, not worrying
that they might not be safe, because everyone looks out for them. Mayberry is
a place where I can sit on a bench in town and just "visit" with folks there,
and enjoy a beautiful afternoon. Mayberry is such a special place that it just
feels like I am "home" when I get there.

Having been snow bound for over a week as the result of snow storms followed
by an ice storm which was Oregon's worst in over a decade which also closed
the Portland airport for a week, I was wondering if there was any mention of
snow in any of the episodes.
I couldn't remember seeing nary a snowflake, even on the Christmas episode. Of
course being filmed in Ca. might account for that. Does anyone remember any
episode where snow was mentioned or had snow?

What appeals to me is that it was THREE different, distinct locations that
created Mayberry: Desilu Studios, Forty Acres Lot, and Franklin Canyon
Reservoir. Why, whenever I see Captain Kirk and company roam the streets of
Mayberry in
'Miri' and 'City On the Edge of Forever' , I think of Mayberry. Cousin Virgil
peered out from one of the Main Street storefronts to see a ransacked
Mayberry four years after visiting Cousin Barney. Whenever I see Kirk and Spock
walking around Myers Lake in 'The Paradise Syndrome', I think of the
possibility of
Colin Male giving them a ticket for fishing without a license.
Who can forget the Mayberry Grand Theater, where classic movies were seen
inside and False Face was captured outside in 'Batman.' Even Aunt Harriet was
seen on the Mayberry residential street in the 'Gomer Pyle USMC''s 'Gomer the
Good Samaritan.'
Sure, Mayberry made ol' Goober rich, but it REALLY made Andy rich, and
elevated his celebrity status greatly.
You have Mt. Airy, North Carolina, a Mayberry, NC, and a Mayberry, VA. But I
stress again and again. Mayberry is NOT a geographical location. Mayberry is a
state of mind!

All episodes of when the Taylors were in Hollywood, when Aunt Bee went to
Mexico and when Howard went to the Carribbean island. Sorry, when I get
obtuse I just can't help myself......maybe I should go to the hospital and
take the bolts out of the wheelchairs.

Actually, most outdoor scenes have very few mountains in the
background.....a noticeable missing link to North Carolina. We never see
MOUNT Pilot but Pilot MOUNTAIN is definitely a mountain. You never see snow
and we all know that NC does get its share of snow.....

Hello from Russell in Newport, KY. Just a real quick question here. I was
watching Mayberry RFD on Goodlife Channel last night. They were showing the 3rd
RFD episode "Mike's Losing Streak." Andy appeared in it and was still the
Sheriff. I thought that He, Opie and Helen all moved out of Mayberry after the
pilot episode of RFD. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks.

Hey Everybody,

I have been sitting under this bucket just a thanking and a thanking. I have a
propostion to run my by you entire. It might be that TAGS Mayberry got its
name from Mayberry, VA since it was right close to North Carolina and home to
Ange's relatives. This is just an educated guess that might have some merit to
it. I would be interested to know what the rest of you trained noticers think
about this one.

"My question is, what other TAGS scenes would reveal that the scene was not in

The scene in at the gas station in Raleigh from "Goober Goes to the Auto Show"
has a Coors beer truck in it. Coors beer was not sold on the east coast at
that time.

I'll bet I'm not the only one who mentions that one. I know there must be
more, but I can't think of any of them now.

There was only the one Christmas show which aired during the first season in

I recently got a copy of The Ghost and Mr Chicken on DVD.
I had never seen this movie and after reading Don's book I wanted to.
I had bought Private Eyes a while back figuring that there was no way Tim and
Don could make
a less than stellar movie (I don't think either Tim or Don were at fault but
either the Writers or Directors failed
to do their part) The Ghost and Mr Chicken was great tho. I now have to add it
to my favorite Don Knotts Movies List,
which include Shakiest Gun in the West and The Apple Dumpling Gang.

What are some of your Favorite Don Knotts Movies?
I have never seen The Reluctant Astronaut either. How bout a
review on it from someone?

There is a yellow Union Pacific train pulling into the Mayberry station in
(I believe) episode 241 "Mayberry R.F.D." That railroad only runs west of
Mississippi River.
