Russell Hiatt's 80th birthday is Tuesday, January 27th and I thought it
would be nice if his friends on WBMUTBB would send him a card from their
hometown.
Floyd's City Barbershop
129 Main Street
Mount Airy, NC 27030
If you have been to Mount Airy, you've probably met the man who makes the
town such a special place. Russell Hiatt has been cutting hair for over 57
years and doesn't intend to stop anytime soon - "I figure I'll work another
20 years, then take a year off before coming back... I'd only be 101."
Happy Birthday, friend.

Subject: Dillards, honeymoon
Hi, I am from Floyd, VA and I am 20 years old. I have been watching Andy
for about 15 years and I am in love with him. Anyways, I have had the
pleasure of seeing the Dillards a few years ago in concert in North
Carolina and got to meet Dean Webb, Mitch Jayne, Rodney and Doug Dillard.
But that was four years ago. Does anyone know if they still do any
concerts and when would the next one would be? Also, general question: If
I ever get married (unlikely), does anyone think it is weird that I want to
spend my honeymoon in Andy Griffith's homeplace in Mt. Airy? I think it is
perfectly normal...... God bless you all! Jessi

Thank you, John Sasser, for the list of Don Knotts'
roles. Naming characters is an art, and I was amazed
as I looked through the "names" he has played. Barney
Fife is, of course, perfect for the DK we wll love,
but look at some of the others. My mind was boggled.
Each one can summon up a picture of DK playing someone
with that name. Abner Audubon Peacock IV? Henry
Limpet? Even his first role--Wilbur Peterson. Wow!

Hi fellow fans,
This may have already been pointed out, but yesterday I caught a song on the
radio by Rascal Flatts called "Mayberry". It was so great, It talked of
missing and longing for those simple days of porch sitting, knowing people on
the street, those "black and white days". One of the last lines talks about
driving down a road and seeing a dad and a boy with fishing poles. I loved it
if you haven't heard it check it out and no I don't work for the group.
Hope from New Orleans

Hello all,
Hope everyone's having a nice weekend! I have a question that's probably been
asked here before, but I don't remember seeing it in previous digests. I have
a pack of TAGS trading cards that I have owned since I was thirteen or
fourteen. I bought them at a Fred's store in the early 90s and I have never
seen them sold anywhere since. One has Floyd, Goober and Ernest T sitting on a
bench, another has Barney cooking chili in his room and another one has Opie
holding baby Andelina. I have just counted them, there are 29 in all and I
guess they came in packages of ten each. My question is, are these cards worth
anything? Anyone's help would be appreciated.

Sure was. It's called "Songs, Themes, and Laughs From the Andy

1. The Andy Griffith Show Theme
2. Jack, the Giant Killer
3. Flop Eared Mule
4. Ellie's Theme
5. Sourwood Mountain
6. The Man Hunt
7. The Fishin' Hole

Re: I was wondering if anyone knows the name of the episode, and the

Sure do. It's episode 15: "Those Gossipin' Men"
Aunt Bee teaches Andy a lesson after he ridicules the Mayberry women
for being such terrible gossips. Bee sets a trap to prove the men are
just as bad by planting the seed of a rumor that ends up leading most
of the Mayberry males to the hotel room of a mild-mannered shoe
salesman. The men are convinced he is a talent scout for the
fictitious TV show "Manhattan Show Time."

That's "Those Gossipin' Men," from the first season. The salesman's name
was Wilbur Finch, played by actor Jack Finch.

Good one! It brought another one to mind: In "Opie's Newspaper" when Aunt
Bee and Barney are discussing the "May and December" marriage of Harold and
Sue Grigsby, Barney says "... it's easy to see what May sees in December:
Santy Claus!"

>>>There are several not hints, but out right
statements indicating Mayberry is in NC in the
show....On the deserted island, the little boy asks
Howard where he comes from and Howard says "Mayberry,
North Carolina." Also, in the Hollywood episode, I
think they say they are from North
Carolina when talking to the man on the bus. Many
times Raleigh is referred to as the State Capital.
(Esquire Club for example) As we say in the
law, therefore, it would be a "reasonable assumption"
that Mayberry is in North Carolina since NC is the
only state with a capital called
Raleigh..Also, in the episode where Opie is talking
about college, Opie
says he wants to go to a state university, the
University of NC, to save
on the cost<<<
All of these references come from the later years,
during the color episodes. Very rarely, if ever, is
there any reference to the state of North Carolina in
the black and white shows. Sure, they mention Raleigh
many times, and the "capitol", but never do you hear
Raleigh AND capitol in the same sentence. It was left
intentionally hazy, but subtle hints they were. There
is one B/W episode that another person mentioned a
while back about the Governor's car getting a parking
ticket, and that North Carolina is shown on the
license plate, but I never remember to notice it when
it comes on (guess I'm not a trained noticer). Other
than that, I can't recall a single B/W episode where
it is made obvious that Mayberry is in North Carolina.

The episode is "Those Gossipin' Men" from the first season. The actor's name
is Jack Finch.

"I am wondering if there were ever any soundtracks of the show ever produced."
There is a CD called "Songs, Themes, and Laughs from 'The Andy Griffith Show"".
There are also a few songs from TAGS on a CD called "Andy Griffith American
Originals" and on a CD by the Dillards (the Darling boys) called "There is a
Time". All 3 of these CD's are available from Weavers at www.mayberry.com. I
have all 3 of them and would recommend them. The Dillards CD is mostly, if not
all, bluegrass music. I love bluegrass, so I like it, but someone who is not a
big bluegrass fan might not feel the same way. Of course, you don't have to
listen to the whole thing at one sitting. It includes "There is a Time", "Ebo
Walker", and "Dooley" all of which were sung on TAGS.

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
A lot of mention here on the WBMUTBB Digest of late has been of Don Knotts'
films. After Andy slugged it out another three years with TAGS after Don's
departure, Andy decided to try to do the same thing that Don did. Here's are
some
similarities between Don's first Universal film 'The Ghost and Mr. Chicken
(1966)' and Andy's first Universal film 'Angel in My Pocket (1969).'
* Both were written by Jim Fritzell and Everett Greenbaum.
* Both were directed by Alan Rafkin.
* There were plenty of actors/actresses featured that had previously appeared
on TAGS.
* Ellen Corby (Hub Caps Lesh) appeared in both films.
* Aesthetically, both films have that 'Universal' style in the
cimematography.
P.S. If anyone can come up with anymore comparisons, let us know!
P.S.S. TAGS Robo-Collector Mike Creech has 'Angel in My Pocket' on DVD
available for sale. Support the Creech man and buy one. ("Who you callin' a

Hey folks,
AOL *again* took it upon itself to unsubscribe almost every WBMUTBB Member
who uses AOL as their provider...INCLUDING *ME*. :-)
I had to resubscribe about 400 people last night. Mostly AOL folks but some
CompuServe (cs.com) and a few folks that use wmconnect.com ( I'm guessing AOL
owns them as well somehow.
Anyway, if you got a note telling you that you had been subscribed the the
