Oops...actually....it looks like *I* jumped the gun.

I'm going to removed the "voting" for the contest for the time being as
I looked at my directions again and saw that I had extended the deadline
for submission until the 23rd. That meas we can't start voting until
AFTER that.

Boy....it's unusual that I'm AHEAD of the game. :-)

SO, if you have entries you'd like to submit....you still have until
January 23rd to get them in to us. If you've already voted (4 so far)
you'll need to vote again later. I'll help you with that.

Again...sorry about the confusion and get those entries in to me before
the 23rd.

I can just imagine what Sheriff Taylor would say to Britney if she got
married at the All Souls Church and then promptly walked over to the Mayberry
Courthouse to get the marriage annulled. I would love to be a fly on the wall
to
hear Andy's lecture to her.
Andy Griffith did do a lot of work in Las Vegas. He performed with Don
Knotts, Jim Nabors, Jerry Van Dyke and others.

We've discussed this in the past but I believe "now is the time for all good
men to come to the aid of their neighbor" and let's create the singles side
of Mayberry Days - designate some place where all us unattached can meet
each other. Mrs. Wiley's Tea Party would be a start - and if'n we end up on
the porch I might even let them heft me....... :) After about a year we
could hold hands.......... Honeymooning at Andy Griffith's Place would beat
everthing cause it wouldn't be fitting to ask Barn to give up his corner
room at the Y.

Hey
I would like to add yet another idea for your wedding . When we go to
Mayberry
days in Mount Airy we always stay over on Saterday night and
attend Andy's boyhood church . Wouldn't it be cool to be married there ?
This is not the church he attended later on . It is the one he and his
parents
attended while he was growing up . It ' s the " Haymore Memorial Baptist
Church ".
319 Rockford Street , Mount Airy , North Carolina
Their are still a few people attending there who knew Andy . When we have
been there , some of them , after finding out that we were in town for
Mayberry
Days , approched us and shared stories of their days with Andy . A few of
these
stories have a familiar ring to them . ( T A G S )
The first time we attended there the people were So Friendly . Then we didn't
get
to go to Mayberry Days the next year . After skipping a year , some of them
still
remembered what state we were from ! Don't you just love a "friendly town
with "friendly people ?" One of the men we met was a close boy hood pal of
Andy 's . He was quite interesting to talk to .
When we travel , on Sunday , we always go to church in whatever town we
happen
to be . So we just took a chance , with what information we already had ,
that
this was Andy's church .
Some might think we're Nuts , but we're Happy Nuts !
Best of luck to you and yours ,
Danna in Indiana

What Mayberry Means to me

To me Mayberry is a place where I long to be. A place where I wish I could
call home. It's my idea of heaven. Just hearing the word "Mayberry" brings
a smile to my face.

So what is it about Mayberry that means so much to so many of us? I believe
we love escaping back to the good old days where life was a little simpler
and easygoing, even if that escape is only for a half an hour. With all the
reality shows that seem to be polluting the TV stations today, it's nice to
have a place like Mayberry to escape to. I think Mayberry shows us life
the way we all imagine life should be. A life where people are genuinely
good to one another. One where people look out for one another and care for
one another. Mayberry shows us the value of family, friends, and community,
something that seems to be missing in the world we live in today.

Keith in Glendale sez HEY!
After having a conversation with my next door neighbor the other day, it
occured to me, Did Andy have next door neighbors and who were they? We see
houses next door but do we ever see who lives there? Were there scenes where
the neighbor would drop in to see Aunt Bea, borrow a cup of sugar, eat a
Kerosene pickle normal things neighbors do. If this topic has been discussed
in the past I must have missed it.

I am currently watching "The Court Martial of Billy Mitchell" on AMC. It has
an all-star
cast led by Gary Cooper and Ralph Bellamy. One of the court scenes shows
"Ben
Weaver" as a retired navy admiral testifying on the behalf of adding a flying
wing to the
service between WWI and WWII. First time I've seen him with a beard and a
tweed
3-piece suit, no hat(boy does he have huge ears)!

I guess a lot of the comments have been to generate conversation, but I, for
one (and
maybe the only) don't see how anyone who's paid the least bit of attention to
the show
can argue (Coors truck notwithstanding) that the show could possibly be set
anywhere
but the "Good "ol North State". Filmed elsewhere, yes..set anywhere
else...no way!

Hello All,

What a great idea to send Russell Hiatt a birthday card! I've got mine
ready to go! Don't you pity the poor postman that will have to carry all
those cards? But, then again, it's Mayberry, so he/she will probably get as
big a kick out of it as the rest of us. Thanks for letting us in on the
celebration, Jeff!

Lots of luck to you and yours,
Vicki Pillow
