Andy sold his "Toluca Lake" home in California to Jerry Van Dyke a number of
years ago. On the first trip that I took to California back in 1995, we
drove by there and one of our group (Randy Shields) went up to the door to
see if Jerry was at home. Randy and the Van Dykes are from the same town in
Illinois. He was not at home at the time because there had been an
earthquake a few weeks before and the damage was being repaired. I also
heard a few years back the Jerry Van Dyke sold it when the series COACH was
cancelled and he moved to Missouri.

One other thing about Andy's previous home in California, Ken Berry lived
right accross the street from Andy's house on Ledge (I thought it was Lodge)
until about 4 years ago. I guess that was there own little corner of
Mayberry for a while.

Time in Jail

The Woman Speeder from Washington, DC was in jail more than overnight, I
believe, because Andy told her something like -"Well, we do have mayor's court,
but it don't take up till Tuesday". Seems she would have been in more than
overnight since she waited for Mayor's court.

Barney was in jail for more than overnight because you can see him marking the
days off on his calendar. Also, Sam Huggins was in jail more than overnight
because he he was talking about not being locked up for Christmas. It is
probably implied that Sam was in for more than overnight, because Ben Weaver
says he will be watching his cell every minute to make sure he served his whole
sentence. Also, moonshining was probably more than just an overnight charge....

Then there was Jess the farmer who the mayor insisted should serve his "whole
sentence" but Andy gave him three days off to tend to his crops...Seems it
would be useless to give a man three days off from a one night sentence....

Also, Rafe was in for ten days, at one point. Maybe there are others, but I
don't want to get locked up for loitering around trying to remember them.....

I thought that everyone would get a kick out of this picture. I know I sure
did. By the way, I wanted to thank everyone who responded to my request for
the Mayberry soundtrack. I will order it soon from Weavers. I just never
knew one existed. Imagine that? (And I call myself a real fan, too. Shame,
shame, shame!)

What Mayberry Means to Me

Many's the day I'd stop and watch Andy on TV. My dad was raising three =
children on his own, and I identified with Opie.

Always Mayberry gave me comfort and smiles when I'd be feeling down. =
Don't we all wish deep down inside that we lived in that kind of town?

Young forever, Barney and Andy will remain always in our hearts. And =
Aunt Bee's cooking, and Andy a-picking, I'd love to been there from the =
start.=20

Barney always gave us giggles, seemed like he was being himself. Wasn't =
it wonderful just settling in with Mayberry and the peace that you felt?

Every day Opie had time to spend with his "Pa" and his friends. =
Wouldn't it be wonderful to share those times, go back to Mayberry =
again?

Reckon we never saw or heard of anyone in need be ignored. And even =
though, the town was small, not one episode ever left us bored.

Recalling the times, never forget when Otis got his snoot full. =
Gomer and Goober with their backward ways, and Ernest T acting a fool.

You and I have surely been blessed by the love we have for the show. I =
know I'd be willing to bet, Mayberrians are the best folks to know.

Mayberry, may ber reeee....

Hey Carol,

The Carolina Panthers are located in Charlotte, North Carolina, so naturally
that is where their stadium is. However, they are called Carolina because they
represent North and South Carolina. I have enjoyed their run through the
playoffs, because nobody gave them much of a chance. The Panthers have truly
been an inspiration as the underdog team. I plan on rooting for them in the
Super Bowl.

Didn't Jess Morgan spend several days in the Mayberry Jail. He was late coming
back which got Andy in trouble with Mayor Stoner. Of course the Mayor learned
that he needed to let Andy run the Sheriff's office or he just might get chased
up a tree by a bear!!

Ted, I believe you mentioned having Andy for your best man if you got married
in Mayberry, but what about having him perform the actual ceremony? After all
he is the Justice of the Peace!

I'm pretty sure it wasn't Clara listening next door with Aunt Bee while
Opie/Arnold practiced his piano lesson. I believe it was the actress Maudie
Prickett, though I can't remember her name in this episode, she played Edna Sue
Larch in episode #230 "Andy's Investment". She also played Aunt Bee's sister
Nora in an earlier episode, with her husband Uncle Ollie, and their boys Roger
and Bruce.

If anyone taped the "commercial" spots for Sanka etc. mentioned in the last
digest, I sure would love to have a copy. I would pay your expenses... tape
and postage if you would help me out. It would be right neighborly of you.

I'm having a Mayberry Moment right now!!!! My husband is watching Bonanza
while I am typing this and guess who is on Bonanza today..... Parley
Baer/Mayor Stoner!!! I turned around to watch it and also saw Vito Scotti/Mr.
Maurillios the gypsy from episode #182 "The Gypsies", and also one of the
member's of the Esquire Club is in this episode of Bonanza. I guess this is my
lucky day!!!

The 4 brothers, I don't remember their names but they wanted to beat up Otis
because they thought he squealed on them. How long were they in jail? It
seemed like they were there before Otis, then they were taken to The Rock after
Otis served his time with Bloody Mary.

As a single gal myself, I think the singles thing is a pretty cool idea.
Don't know if I'll be going or not, but maybe one of these days I'll get
to go to Mayberry Days. I am also 20 like the person who wanted to have
their honeymoon in Mt. Airy and am wanting to get married. My grandpa
recently told me that if I didn't hurry and get marriend I'd be an old
maid! Then yesterday my brother told me that the average age a person
gets married these days is 28. I said, "Ha!! You can tell Grandpa to
put THAT in his smipe and poke it!"

I thought that poem about Mayberry by Gary was so good! I thoroughly
enjoyed reading that one. In fact all of the entries of been very good.

What Mayberry Means to Me b&b&

Mayberry, to me, is a group of people that I only see once or twice a year
but who are more than friends. They are family. It is a group of people who
are
happy for us when our grandchild is born and who hurt for us when our daddy
dies. It is a group of people, scattered from the east coast to the west, who
not only share a love for a certain television show of the 60bs but also
share
a love and caring for one another. It is a group of people who are miles away
but are as close as my computer.

It is a wonderful couple in Nebraska who, by computer and long distance phone
calls, organized a surprise 25th wedding anniversary party for us .... and
the people who took part in it by sending cards and gifts to our son and
making
us feel like all of them were actually here with us on that occasion. It is a
lady in California who always seems to know the right thing to say and a lady
in Virginia who seems more like an old friend from school than someone we met
online only 7 years ago; people from South Carolina and from Illinois and from
Maryland who are always smiling and always have a kind word. It is an actor
from Virginia, an engineer from Alabama, a bPrince of a Fellab from
Nashville,
and a wonderful friend in Raleigh, all of who have a gift for making everyone
else feel good and important and special.

Mayberry to me is our Friday night get-together at MayberryDays, watching the
parade from bourb spot, swapping quotes with the best quote-swappers (and
hugs with the best huggers) in the world, and the always sad goodbyes after
breakfast on Sunday. It is an inside joke on the bFront Porchb or in the
WBMUTBB
Digest. Itbs an e-mail that seems to come at just the right time. It is
sitting in rockers in Kingsport, TN while eating genuine Snappy Lunch pork
chop
sandwiches. Itbs squad car races, trivia, Andy on the Opry, hearty-eatinb
men
and beautiful delicate women, chicken thieves and what-not b&b&..

Mayberry, to me, is a state of mind and a state of heart and it is home to
the best people in the world b our friends.

Seems like when Otis was incarcerated or is that inarculated at Aunt
Bee's prison, he asked the neighbor, played by the mysterious brother of
Danny Thomas, to bring over a ladder so he could escape! And the
neighbor Bee quilted with while Opie was supposedly practicing the piano
was the lady who also portrayed her baby sister Nora one time and also
Mrs. Larch. It seemed like one minute Clara lived right nearby and then
sometimes not. Curious, curious, as Ange would say! Then what about the
folks somewhat across the street at the end of the church - the Beamon
clan?

Right off the bat, I can think of the man and woman in "Gomer, the House
Guest". We don't see these people's faces, but we hear them angrily shouting
at Andy that they "haven't had any sleep for the last hour" . Poor Andy
sometimes regrets his hospitality, such as inviting Gomer to stay with them a
few days!

Goober: "Andy ain't married".

Hi Gang...
It was mentioned that the Food Network did a special on commercials and
featured Andy selling Sanka. I checked with the Yahoo TV listings which is a
real good source for showing listings of repeat performances. You can catch
the same special at the following times. Jan. 24 at 11pm; Jan 25 at 3am (set
the video recorder, lol) and Jan 25 at 7pm. I always enjoyed Andy selling
Ritz crackers myself. "Ummmm, GOOD CRACKER"
