While I was not nearly the Matlock fan as I should have been (hour long
shows tend to be a problem with me), I always thoroughly enjoyed the
character. And I actually have seen the episode where Ben tells someone (I
actually believe it was the villain) that he used to know someone who call
that a kleptomenerac.

What makes it just such a wonderful drop is that is completely unexpected
and just hits you right between the eyes. It is so unexpected you at first
think to yourself "Did he just say what I think he said?"

Good job, Ben. Have a hot dog.

The Mayberry Police Car for sale on Ebay sits in front of a company just N
of Indianapolis. It is in the Cicero area. I wrote in about it several
months ago. I didn't stop and look at it but made mental note of it.

It looked to be in very good condition. I don't know if it's a Galaxie or
Galaxie 500.

Subject: Barney's memory

>>>Someone please tell me which episodes Barney quotes the "Constitution"
and "An officer of the law shall..."

The sheriff's rules bit is in "Ellie Comes to Town." The exact rule Barney
attempts to memorize is "An officer of the law shall enforce the law and
order without regard to personal welfare and safety."

The same basic routine would be reused three years later in "Opie's
Ill-Gotten Gain" when Barney demonstrates how he can still "remember" the
Preamble to The Constitution, which he had learned in the eighth grade (too
bad they didn't have Schoolhouse Rock back then!)

Before it was used on The Show, Andy Griffith and Don Knotts used to perform
this "memory" skit at parties. The two actors never got a writing credit on
TAGS, but they actually wrote several of the scenes in which they were the
only two characters on screen. Sadly, many of these scenes were the first
to go when the episodes were butchered to make room for more commercials,
since most of said scenes were just two buddies talking to each other, and
not essential to the storyline.

I know this is probaly going to break some kind of "rule" but I really
need to get this off my chest. Is anyone else bothered by tvlands lack
of the black and white eppisodes? After months of colored episodes I was
really looking forward to the black and whites. And what did they do?
Started at episode 73!! Last time they had a total of 7 black and white
episodes before going back to colored. I really don't mean to complain
(I know any kind of spirited discussions are forbidden on this list), I
guess I'm just a little puzzled and wondering if anyone knows the reason
for this.

 Have a great day!!

  Susan

There is also a good one where Andy is pinning a witness on the stand and
proves he was not at home when he said he was. He proved that the
witness was really at "Wally's Garage."

Just a note to pass along to our DVD and 60's shows
enthusiasts, TV Guide Publishing Group has announced
that it will issue DVD's of classic television shows,
in a multi-year deal with Falcon Picture Group. The
DVD's will feature the TV Guide brand, will be
digitally mastered, and will include such shows as The
Andy Griffith Show, and many others. The only
drawback is that each set will only contain 12 shows,
and it remains to be seen whether the TAGS set will
include any of the public domain episodes we are all
accustomed to. The bright side is that they will
retail for only $9.99 for two discs, and of being the
utmost high quality.
