The dialog between Barney and the mailman (played by Dub Taylor) is really
sharp if you haven't paid close attention. Dub shares a couple of little
known facts regarding the authority of mailmen. First, he reminds Barney
that he has limited authority when it comes to mail, but Dub is a "fed."
Second, when Barney gets mad and threatens to ticket the mailtruck, Dub
advises that a mailtruck supersedes police, fire and ambulance as long as it
is carrying a registered letter.
Good writing.

Howard Morris played "George" in episode #140 "Andy and Helen Have Their Day"
In this episode Barney gives Andy and Helen a day off to picnic at the lake
and then bothers them all day with "trival trivialities". Mr. Morris also
directed this episode.

That is what Mayberry means to me - friends, warmth, and sharing good times
together. Robbie, I'm glad you were able to attend the party and share the
good times with us.

Members,
I too have received the Barney/Saddam picture and I love it. I know a lot of
people are asking for it. I took the liberty of converting it black and white
so it has that nostalgic TAGS look to it. If anyone would like the black and
white copy, you can e-mail me directly at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and I'll forward it
to you.
Lots of luck to you and 'yers'...

For Harriet....
Regarding your question about dentistry in Mayberry and the fact that Opie and
Arnold discussed it in an episode, I thought you might like to know that Arnold
(Sheldon Golomb) actually left the entertainment industry and became a dentist.
He practices in Colorado Springs.

The episode(don't know the title or #) that Howard Morris was a tv repairman
was when everybody convinced Andy that he needed a break to relax. He and Helen
were going to spend the day together with a picnic and Barney kept interrupting
them.He took George(Howard Morris) up to the lake to check with Helen because
the set had to go in for repairs. He didn't want to be responsible for such a
big decision without Helen knowing.............I personally liked him mush
better as Ernest T.rather than George. But it showed his diversity in characters
since George was alot clamer in demeanor than Ernest T.

>>poster outside the cinema and it is advertising a movie starring "Gary
Grant." I looked carefully to make sure it was not an exaggerated "C" but it
really appeared to be a "G." Now I am absolutely no movie expert (although I
do know it was William Holden in Picnic), but I could swear his name was
"Cary" not "Gary." Am I right???<<
Yep, you are probably correct, but there is an actor named Gary Grant who is
listed as being in/having something to do with a film released in 1964 (same
year as the fun girls) called "MGM's Big Parade of Comedy." Not sure what
he did be one web site has his last film date as 2001. A friend of someone
on the set??

that a standard tune....or just one of those songs on station YORB in
Mt. Pilot?

Hi ya'll! I am obsessed with Cary Grant, he is the most gorgeous man on
earth, it is spelled Cary Grant. Also Howard Morris appeared on a TAGS as
a nerd like person didn't he? I can't remember the episode or the name of
him, but I remember seeing him. Also, does anyone know what Ernest T's
sentence was? I think it was something like, "no hunt for wear open close
no credit" was it something like that? I may be way off, but someone
please tell me. God bless!!!! Jessi (Floyd VA)

Robbie thank you so much for sharing with all of us about how you and Suzanne
got to enjoy Mr. Hiatt's birthday with him in Mt. Airy. I met him at Mayberry
Days a few years ago and he is a "real Prince of a fellow" isn't he!! I could
close my eyes and be right there with you at the Snappy Lunch!! I sure
appreciate how everyone here at the digest shares their Mayberry Moments and
visits to different places and events concerning TAGS. For those of us who
don't get to attend all of them it helps us enjoy them right along with you.
Goober: You know, Barneys a wonderful fellow, but sometimes I just don't
understand him?? .... Andy: He's a nut.

Subject: Floyd as Wally's Barber??
I just caught an episode of Leave it to Beaver last night that centered on
Wally's earnest desire to start shaving. In the closing moments of the
episode, it's actually Howard McNear in the barber's role. What an
interesting anticipation of his television tour de force. And I believe
this episode was filmed before the Griffith Show started. Mark Hanley

To: TAGS <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
I've been watching some Matlock on the Hallmark channel this week - too much
snow and ice to be outside. Yesterday one of Ben's assistant lawyers did
something good (didn't catch just what) and Ben wanted to reward him in some
small way. Ben's daughter said, "Give him a raise. So he could get more than
a corner room at the Y."
Thanks for the responses about the leg of lamb. I think that is a hilarious
bit of dialogue and will try to work the quote into a conversation in the near
future.
Also, I was at my chiropractor today and mentioned Barney in the head harness.
I thought one of those would make me feel better. The doctor laughed and said
he remembered that episode.

Actually, his name was Archibald, but you're right about the poster. It
definitely reads "Gary" and not "Cary." Either somebody in the prop
department goofed, or maybe they changed it on purpose (though I don't know
why they would do that, unless maybe one of Cary Grant's people had
complained about the "Cary Grant Haircuts" advertised at Floyd's back in
"Mayberry Goes Hollywood.")

Ladies, I'll bet biting into those frozen treats and hurting your teeth really
frosted you!
Since Otis' mother in law visited the dentist and Barney saw her going in,
there must have been a Mayberry dentist. However I don't think there was an
Orthodontist since Floyd made the comment that Peggy was a beautiful girl -
with a slight overbite.
