Well Jessie, you almost got it right. Ernest T's sentence was, "No hunt,
beware, open and closed, no credit." He made that sentence up from words he
knew at the time Andy was trying to teach him to read.

Jessi,
I think Earnest T's sentence went something like this.....
"No hunting open and close beware no credit"
Hope this helps.
I love the answers Earnest T gives for geography too.... old man Kelsey's

We've done some serious research over the years concerning where Wally's was
supposed to be in regard to downtown (and where it was actually on the 40
Acres back lot), but we have several instances where it is apparently close
enough to town to walk. And that generally fits my feeling for Wally's
since it was the only station "in town."
- Andy tells Barney that his schedule includes walking a block and a half to
Wally's and then later having a egg salad sandwich.
- Barney runs to the station with a rifle when Gomer fakes the holdup.
- Opie and his buddy walk to the station with their walkie-talkie to create
Goober's talking dog.
- Andy and Barney seem to have walked over when they were checking on who
was stealing the tools.
Anybody else getting their exercise walking to Wally's?

Besides playing Ernest T., George the tv repairman, and directing several
episodes, didn't Howard Morris also provide several radio voices on the show?
I remember the cave rescue episode, where Andy & Helen heard that Barney was
forming a rescue squad, I know that voice was his. How about Leonard Blush
singing Sylvia, wasn't that him, as well? Was he also the voice on the radio
during the lady convicts episode (the "alias Ralph Henderson" bit)? A
question, if George was the tv repairman, what happened to Orville from the
earlier episodes that ran the combination funeral parlor/tv repair shop, as
well as Emmitt, the fix-it shop guy?

I'm headed to Raleigh next week (tried to get the corner room at the Y, but
it was booked) to see a new client so I called up Yahoo maps to see where
their office was. Easy enough to find, but I couldn't help notice that
about 4 blocks away is Currituck Drive. If you'll remember, when Cousin
Virgil didn't get off the bus, Andy asked the driver (played by Rance
Howard) if he picked up a young fella in Currituck.

The IMdB actually lists Howard McNear as a semi-regular until 1960, on "Leave
It to Beaver." What's funny is, his character name on that show, was "Andy"!

The only one I can think of who fits that description would be Ronnie Schell,
who at the time was starring in "Good Morning World," co-starring a young
Goldie Hawn. The show failed after one year, and Schell then returned to
"Gomer
Pyle USMC."

We need to give him a title....something like Mr. Luncheon Tray. (Remember
Andy wanted to give Aunt Bee a title - Miss Luncheon Tray?) Like Hawkeye

sometimes I get such a craving for a pork chop sandwich I want to pick up

Here are a couple more names to add to our growing list of actors who played
more than one role on TAGS...
Charles Thompson played night-watchman Asa in several episodes and then
re-appeared as Dr. Roberts, giving Dolly the horse a check-up.
Dub Taylor was seen in three different roles -- as a "Fed" postman, as the
preacher in "Mountain Wedding," and then as insurance mogul Ben Beecham
(Emmett's brother-in-law).

Subject: More on Russell's Surprise Birthday!
Date: Wed, 4 Feb 2004 09:56:46 -0500
Just an additional note on Russell Hiatt's Surprise Birthday last
weekend....friends Robbie and Suzanne Curlee gave way too much credit to me
for that great celebration. It was a surprise, however, as Russell's real
birthday was on January 21st. Jim Clark made sure that he was remembered on
his special day. Since this was Russell's 80th, several other fans decided
that an additional celebration was needed that included his family and fans.
Bobby Dennany of Brazil, Indiana got the ball rolling by ordering a cake and
driving over 500 miles to deliver it! Tanya Rees, director of the Surry Arts
Council, called me and asked me to help spread the word. Since I have been
known as a "mouth of the South", that was an easy task. All the people who
gathered at 12 noon at the Snappy Lunch made it the special day that it was.
Russell's comment...."I hope to be working here until I turn 100...then I may
take a week's vacation, return, and work part time the rest of my life"! What
a great attitude. He is an inspiration to us all!
Sincerely,
Ann

Cameo appearance? hmmm
Was Gomer Pyle, USMC on CBS? Ronnie Schell (Duke Slater on Gomer Pyle)
showed up as Bernie the fur salesman in the #245"Emmett's Anniversary
episode. He previosly played director Jim Martin Episode 187 - The

There is a fairly new CD of The Kentucky Colonels that was released in
September 2003 entitled 'Livin' in the Past.' It is live music from 1964. There
are
about 20 tracks altogether. I believe it was still the same line-up that
appeared on TAGS' 'Mayberry on Record' and 'Quiet Sam.' LeRoy Mack left the
band in
1965. It would make a good addition to your Mayberry music collection.

I want to "ditto" all the nice things Robbie Curlee said about Ann Vaughn from
the Visitor's Center. I can't say enough good things about Ann. She has the
true Mayberry spirit. I missed Russell's surprise birthday party but I'm sure
Ann was instrumental in making sure it was a success. I don't believe you
could find any nicer people in the world than people like Ann Vaughn and
Russell Hiatt and Charles Dowell. Thank you all for your Mayberry hospitality
and Happy Birthday to Russell!

Hey Bob,
Is it Ronnie Schell? He appears as a fur salesman in "Emmett's
Anniversary", one of the last shows at the end of the last season
and he, of course, was Gomer's best friend on GOMER PYLE USMC,
which was still on the air. It's got to be Ronnie Schell.

Regarding your question about dentistry in Mayberry and the fact that Opie and
Arnold discussed it in an episode, I thought you might like to know that
Arnold (Sheldon Golomb) actually left the entertainment industry and became a
dentist. He practices in Colorado Springs
Rod,
Did you ever notice that Arnold started going by Sheldon Collins later.
I received 2 awesome signed photos from him.I also was lucky enough to be at
the Statue Dedication, and as I was going to take some pictures of the
statue...Andy crossed right in front of me and even said "hi". I snapped a
quick pic. If you would like to see them you can go to my website at

you enjoy them.

I don't know if this qualifies me as a trained noticer or not, but what with
all the talk of dentists and such, I couldn't help but point it out. Next
time you see a close-up of Cary Grant take a good look at his teeth. Instead
of
the usual two front teeth he has one, right smack dab in the middle.
Reckon what causes that?
