Yes, "Flo the Lyin Fly" is the second in a series by Max Lucado starring Hermie
the Caterpillar. I don't yet have "Flo" but my boys (Mason 4yrs and Matthew 1
1/2 yrs) really like the first one. Don Knotts plays a caterpillar named
"Wormie" who is Hermies buddy. Hermie is played by Tim Conway. It's pretty
fun to listen to Tim and Don together whatever they're doing.

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Surprise, Surprise, We saw two TAGS Alumni during the past week on different
episopes of the same show. Margaret Kerry was on The Lone Ranger as the
daughter of one of the good guys that The Masked Man helps out. She was very
brave and managed to help save the day. A couple of days later we were
watching another episode and who did we see but Denver Pyle playing of all
things a deputy. He was quite young and tall and thin with no beard. The only
way that we knew for for sure it was Denver was the voice. The kids think that
we are crazy all the time TAGS spotting, but we have a good time.

"I don't think I've picked up on the continuity of Olive's tip at the
diner.
In one episode, Barn and Andy return to the court house and are talking
about lunch. The conversation discloses that both had left a 25c tip.
Barney offered to go back over, put his hat over one of the quarters and
recover it. But generosity wins the day and the decision was made to let
Olive keep both quarters.
Then when Ernest T. keeps escaping from the jail, we actually get to see
Olive when Barney comes in and orders a breakfast big enough for about 4
grown people. In the early part of the scene, Olive makes mention that the
boys had left 2 quarters and Barney clarifies that they were both for her.
I don't know if the same writers wrote those 2 episodes or even how close
together they were shown or maybe the cast/director added the bit when they
were shooting. But that's the first time I ever caught that the quarter
tip
bit carried through 2 episodes."
Aren't these 2 the same episode?

One another subject, what's that chain type thing hanging down on the
inside of the courtroom door? Carol
Hey everybody. The chain hanging on the left door (from the inside) is
a slide bolt that secures that door. You pull down on that chain and
that releases the bolt and you can open that door. It may also have a
slide bolt at the bottom of the door. Generally, that door would stay
secure unless you needed to bring in something large like car parts or a
cow. I am a locksmith and have seen these types of double doors before.
I don't think it was used in every episode though (could be wrong about
that) seems I remember when Otis was riding the cow, they just swung the
both doors open at the handle. Anyway, just though I would throw my 2
cents worth in. Horatio (Kevin)

I wanted to share a Mayberry Moment with you all. Thursday I was out in a
state forest in southern Ohio checking a transmission line. As I was
driving down one of the dirt roads I saw five puppies running along the
road. I was wondering if I should take the dogs somewhere worrying they may
be lost. I wasn't sure what to do because there were some houses that were
just down the road a bit and perhaps they belonged there. I decided to head
back down the road and talk to the local foresters that were doing some
work in the area to see if they knew where they belonged. The foresters
were gone when I drove back and the puppies were gone when I got back to
where they were. When I got back home I told my husband I was worried about
those puppies. To make me feel better, he told me not to worry about those
dogs they'll be fine. He then smiles and then acting like Barney says "What
were dogs years ago......" He then says "Besides, don't you remember what
happen to Andy and Barney when they found homes for the dogs they found?
You want Clint Biggers showing up looking for his dogs?"
Now if they were giraffes.....

I don't know if you have noticed just how advanced Barney is? In the
Robin Hood episode last night, Barney was at the supper table talking
about how he was watching his "carbohydrates and glucose." This is the
hottest thing going to day with all the low carb diets. Barney was
forty years ahead of the game. You think Dr. Atkins got the idea after
watching that episode of TAGS?

This morning in the mall near me where I walk inside for exercise,
people were setting up motorcycles for a Harley Davidson show this
weekend. One young man got the point when I said I hadn't spotted
Barney's cycle with the sidecar. Said he liked to watch TAGS. A middle
aged couple didn't get it even though the woman said she used to watch
the show. I saw a table set up with gold cups on it. I bet Barney would
get an award for the oldest motorcycle. There WAS one military cycle
with a sidecar, I read the information on it. It was from World War ll,
not as old as the one General "Blackjack" Pershing rode in.

I had a Mayberry Moment that I figured you all would enjoy. Normally I play
the organ for our church services, but recently I had to fill in for our
regular pianist who was home with her sick child. After we had practiced the
songs, I said to Stan our director: "I believe we've got her if she don't
jump!" He looked at me funny and of course I had to go through the story of
how Ben Weaver was going to evict the Scobey's. I told Stan that Andy meant
that he thought the situation was taken care of if nothing bad happened. He
asked me a question about who the Scobey's were (he does not watch TAGS
regularly) and before you know it I had gone through the entire episode for
him. I then told him that I could work a TAGS episode into just about anything
that happens. Don't all of you find that to be true?

would think up the "family meal" for one.

With the last couple editions of the WBMUTBB Digest refering to Lassie's
appearance in the TAGS episode 'Sam for Town Council', I thought I would relate
a
story about Ronny Howard and the real 'Lassie.' Ron told this story on 'Late
Night with David Letterman' about a year ago. TAGS had ended its run. Ronny
guest-starred on an episode of 'Lassie.' When the director was trying to film
Lassie's close-ups, Ronny was interfering by making faces and waving his hands.
The director stopped filming and said "Hey! Don't mess with Lassie's
close-ups!!!"

Does anyone know whether the actors in TAGS get any compensation when the
reruns are shown? I assume Andy does but what about Don Knotts, Jim Neighbors,
Betty Lynn, or any of the others. I wonder if their contracts had anything
about that back then. If they didn't they sure have missed out. I couldn't
sleep last nite and of all things this is what I was thinking about. Guess I
was

Dan, that "quarter bit" wasn't carried through 2 episodes. The two scenes
are from the same episode, "Ernest T. Bass Joins the Army". Olive is
mentioned by Andy and Barney when they first discover the double tip was
left, then she is actually shown later on when Barney finds that Ernest T.
has escaped from the jail.

It's connected to a latch that holds the top of the door closed. We almost
never see this door open (everybody uses the other door), but the chain is
there so that if you wanted to open the door from the inside, you could just
pull that chain instead of reaching up high for the latch (maybe it was
installed for Opie?)

I think it may be the same episode when Olive gets the "half a C" tip that has
Ernest T escaping from the jail. I don't have a bucket, but if I'm thinking
clearly the episode starts out with Andy and Barney bragging about the good
meal then they discover they both left a quarter tip. Like someone said, they
decide that Olive could use it because she is a widow with several kids. Then
Ernest T makes his presence known and the discussion ends until Barney goes in
for breakfast the next day. Considering how much Barney ordered, maybe that's
where a large portion of his paycheck went?

I had a Mayberry moment yesterday. I was at the pizza place with my son
waiting and the news was on...I don't know who the commentators were but they
were
talking about the upcoming election and one of them said to the other "Is
this going to be run like a Mayberry RFD campaign?" And the other said "Don't
we
wish it could be run like a Mayberry RFD campaign." Wouldn't that be
nice..........

A TAGGY (or whatever you call us TAGS fans) posted a message that they thought
they saw LEON in one of the shop windows. If you look above the Squad Car
trunk at the reflection in the glass door, you will see what looks like LEON.
Of course, it could be an optical illusion. This is for the B/W picture. The
Colorized version doesn't show this reflection.

"One another subject, what's that chain type thing hanging down on the inside
of the courtroom door?"
The door with the chain is not the primary door used to go in and out. The door
with the chain is only opened in conjunction with the other door when there is
some reason that opening the other door alone is not wide enough, such as when
Otis rides into the courthouse on his cow. I don't think that the door with
the chain has a door knob on it. I believe that the chain is attached to a
metal peg sort of thing at the top of the door. That peg fits into a hole at
the top of the door frame and, by doing so, keeps the door closed. The chain
is there to pull the peg out of the hole when someone wants to open the door.
At least that's what I think it is.
