Well,,, my birthday ("It's big") is coming up in a day or two, so the
whole family got together yesterday to celebrate...

When ask what I wanted as part of my special day, I said "WATCH
MY TAGS VIDEOS!", of which we did and of which I said "Aren't
you kind"....

We started off with "The Darlings Are Coming", then while eating
a huge helping of chocolate cake and ice cream ("Expanding the
corporation"), we went to "Mountain Wedding" and ended with
"Man in A Hurry", while I rocked my grandbaby....

Gotta tell ya, it was a sweet fun for a sweet day....

Hey all,
I've been wanting to write for a while and tell you how much I enjoy the "tag"
lines and signatures some of you have. I'm always anxious to hear what
Harriet's chickens have been up to, I enjoy what O' Malley, the big-head from
Detroit says, I love Charlie Varney and his "just for plain guzzlin'", and
Maude's reports from the big house are amusing as well as informative. I like
the various character names that some of you take on. Dan writes in with a
nice little vignette every now and then. A lot of you trained noticers use
quotes from the show. I know there are others but these are all that come to
mind right now. You all sure are a bunch of clever people. You're just like
Goober and his many talents. I feel like Gomer. Aw, I can't do it. Anyway,
I'm proud to call you my friends.
I never caught on to the humor in the reference to a family dinner for one.
Thanks for pointing that out. I'm going out with my parents tomorrow. I
believe that's what I will order. Dad will laugh when I tell him that Barney
said it. Now, if you'll excuse me, I believe I'll pop some TAGS tapes in and
spend an enjoyable afternoon in Mayberry. My hubbie is watching NASCAR so he
won't even miss me.
Carol, from the vast wasteland of snow and ice that is Western NY

>>>Does anyone know whether the actors in TAGS get any compensation when the
reruns are shown? I assume Andy does but what about Don Knotts, Jim
Neighbors, Betty Lynn, or any of the others.

None of the actors get anything, not even a penny. Originally, Andy
Griffith, Sheldon Leonard, and Danny Thomas had some sort of deal where they
got paid every time an episode was re-run, but Sheldon and Danny are now
gone, and I seem to remember that Andy sold his interest in The Show to
Viacom a number of years ago.

Earle Hagen, however, still gets a few cents every time The Andy Griffith
Theme is played, and I think maybe The Dillards get a small royalty when one
of their episodes is shown. The rules are different for music than they are
for actors.

Hi all. I was sitting here in a quonset hut with a bucket on my head (at the
suggestion of Gomer), and thunk up this little ditty: Has anyone ever noticed
how many times that a quarter has been the subject of a laugh or controversy?
I don't mean the storyline of an episode, but something to make us chuckle. I
can recall seven instances. There was the quarter Mr. McBeevee gave Opie for
being a good helper, the 4-for-a-quarter pictures Barney and Virgil had made -
but they turned all brown later, Opie's weekly allowance was a quarter - later
raised to 27 cents when Opie wanted 75 cents, Olive got an extra quarter tip
once for good service (let's just let her keep it), Andy made Barney pay Floyd
the quarter for the tonic (give'emth'quarter!), Barney tossed in an extra
quarter in the collection plate one Sunday for a sermon he really was impressed
with, and then there was Barney's 15-cent magazine (QUARTER!!) Can anyone else
come up with an instance where we get so much wh!
 olesome entertainment for a quarter?

"I did a little research a few years ago on Barns rig and found out is was
very old. Best I can remember it was 1918-1927 Harley model JD. They
weren't very dependable either."

I also did a bit of research a few years back and believe I can narrow it
down a bit more. As this is my favorite episode I frequently fanaticize
that someday I would buy an authentic one and create a replica complete with
Charlie Phelps copying the shield from the squad car. I searched the web
for antique motorcycle clubs and e-mailed a photo to the officers of several
to get an ID. Here's a couple of the responses I received:

Richard,
The logo on the tanks has been removed or painted over. The contour of
the tanks, fork etc. highly suggest it is a Harley Davidson. The cylindrical
tool box on the forks put it between 1925 and 1930. The headlight and horn
make it between 1925 and 1928. The lack of a front
brake narrows it to between 1925 and 1927. There are distinguishing features
between these three model years but they are minor and can't be ascertained
from the angle of the photo. I would bet it is a 1925 1927 Harley -
Davidson "J" model .The models JES, FES, FDCBS and JDCBS were all side car
models. The J were electric and the F were magneto. The E were '61 inch
motors and the D were 74 inch motor (as in JDCBS - electric - 74" ). If your
photo shows better resolution then the transmitted photo, perhaps you can
tell if there is a "dash" mounted right behind the handlebar neck. If there
is, that would narrow it to a 1926 or 1927 since the '25 had the ignition
switch on the right below and in back of the riders seat. Hope that helps

    George

Hi Richard:
Barney's motorcycle is a '26 or 27 JD Harley Davidson. It is the one or two
years earlier than mine, as it has no front brake. Any further accuracy
would require Barney's serial number.
Pete

That's the word from the authorities!
