Ever wonder what John Masters does for a living? Surely running the
Mayberry Choir don't pay that much. Maybe we can do a psychological profile
to figure out what John's best suited for. Let's see now, can be rather
stern, strong attention to details, perfectionist, wears a bow tie.
Actually, he sounds like an economics professor I had in college. But I
also could see him running the menswear department at Weavers. If Howard
wasn't already the county clerk, I could see John selling bicycle licenses
and keeping up with traffic figures.

Subject: Smoking
Date: Wed, 25 Feb 2004 07:53:03 -0500
These are the fleeting moments on TAGS when we watch Andy take a slow drag
off a cigarette. In 'Quiet Sam', Andy smokes on farmer Sam's front porch
after delivering the baby. He takes a big puff while he's on the couch with
nurse Mary in 'Three's A Crowd.' In 'Cousin Virgil' , Andy has a smoke in the
back room of the courthouse while Virgil makes a set of keys to unlock the
cell door. Andy smokes in three consecutively filmed episodes in 'Mr.
McBeevee' (66), 'Andy's Rich Girlfriend' (67), and 'Barney Mends A Broken
Heart' (68).
In 'The Cow Thief', Andy smokes while waiting for the cow thief to strike
again. Andy is a firefighter's worst nightmare when he smokes in bed in
'Gomer the House Guest.' Finally, Andy has a very contemplating romantic
smoke on his front porch in the syrupy 'Prisoner of Love.'
"Let's go outdoors, Barney. I could use a smoke." - Andy Taylor
This subject has been discussed in the past quite a bit.
Check out the Digest Archives with the Search subject "cigarette" or
"smoking". A lot of info to be found there.

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
This may be stretching the issue a bit, but didn't Barney once sing a line
from a famous song that went "It's quarter to one" or something to that effect?
Then again, this could be from something totally different but it is praying
on my mind.

I know from reading various articles that Andy Griffith has
two children, a son and daughter....
Can anyone bring us up to date on them? How old? What
they do? Etc, etc, etc.... And does he have grandkids?
Thanks,
Brenda Jo (aka: Brenda Roach, Mayberry's Party Girl)

Hah, there's that "family" dinner for one again.
Also, As we find out when Andy was arresting the magazine publisher,
Barney was known to smoke a cigar when he was feeling "special sporty"

Subject: Quarter

>Can anyone else come up with an instance where we get so much wholesome

In "Man Hunt" (second episode) Andy comments at the end "You know yesterday
when we were fishing I sure didn't like having a hole in that boat but right
now I wouldn't take a dollar and a quarter for it." (or words too close to
correct) For those who haven't seen the episode I won't give away WHY he
says this.........haven't noticed any signs in the window at Foley's Market
advertising anything for a quarter but I love watching for those ridiculous
low prices. Takes ya back!!!
Another coin discussed at great length is a nickel - what episodes can you
list that have references to nickels? I can think of four right off the
handle of my bucket.........
And speaking of Andy's boat - most of us know the boat's name but of those
who consider themselves novice noticers - can you give the nicknames of the
following angler items?
Andy's boat
and
Andy's fishing rod
and
the fish everyone wants to catch
Harriet, my chickens don't care a hoot about fishing...come to think of it,
they don't like hot oil either
......"You let him take our boat on purpose, didn't you paw?"........

IN reference to quarters:
Doesn't Opie get a quarter for doing all his chores in "opie and the spoiled
kid?" ....."A quarter for a job like this?" Also, didn't Barney say something
like "From now on, no more specials. We're going whole hog. It's steak sandwich
time - dollar and a QUARTER. (And its not going to be soup OR salad - it'll be
both)

Subject: TAGS LP for sale
Date: Wed, 25 Feb 2004 15:25:26 -0600
Anybody interested in buying an original TAGS LP? It's "Songs, Themes, and
Laughs from The Andy Griffith Show" from 1961 (the mono version), in good
condition. Send me an email if you're interested, and I'll send back some
pics. I get lots of spam, so be sure to put something like "Andy Griffith"
or "TAGS" in the subject line so I don't accidentally delete your message.
You can get this album on CD at Weaver's, but the original record is a great
collectible. It's one of the most valuable TAGS items ever produced (along
with the comic books and coloring books).

Re: On how many episodes does Andy smoke a cigarette?
I don't know exactly, but here's a start:
"The Great Filling Station Robbery"
"High Noon in Mayberry"
"Prisoner of Love"
"Mr McBeevee"
"Family Visit"
"Quiet Sam"
"Gomer, the House Guest"
I think there were more, but I can't recollect them offhand.

Subject: What Mayberry Means To Me Contest
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
What? I didn't win? They got my medal! I'm going to go pout on the couch
for a while until Andy tells me he's disappointed.
Seriously, I really enjoyed reading all the entries. I hope it doesn't take
a contest for folks to keep sending in their thoughts on what Mayberry means.
I know that whenever I look at my 8-month old son (named William Floyd
Atkinson, by the way), I hope that he will enjoy the show as much as I have and
that
he will grow up and act like somebody. When I look at him, I remember what
Mayberry has meant to me.
...Alan (I came to fill my vase!)
