I forgot about John Masters working at the hotel. I'm ashamed of myself for
forgetting, but I just fired off that email without even thinking about it.
Where's my bucket?? Maybe Mr. Masters did work at the school a few days a
week for music instruction, and maybe he also gave private lessons in the
lobby of the hotel while he was desk clerking. His full time job didn't pay
too much, probably, so those little extras would help a lot!! Briscoe
could've helped him give jug lessons! :)

>>>Ever wonder what John Masters does for a living?<<<

Well, in the episode where the Darlings come to town for the first time, John
is working the desk at the hotel. Since he mentions that he always goes out
for dinner at 8:00, that would seem to imply that he works there on a regular
basis.

My mom and I have been very fortunate to have visited Mt. Airy twice, the
first time in the summer of 1999 and again in 2000. Both times we stayed at
Andy's Homeplace Bed and Breakfast. We took in all the sites: Snappy Lunch,
Floyd's Barber Shop and talked to Russell both times, shopped at Mayberry
Mall, you name it, we did it! We even drove to Pilot Mountain, and we made
the acquaintance of Andy's cousin Earley and Virginia Gilley. They were so
kind to us, and we can't say enough about our opinion of Mayberry, oops, I
mean Mt. Airy. It is a really special town.

The reason for stating all this is that we spent a LOT of time in the
Visitors' Center, and we were so fortunate to meet and have our photo taken
with Emmett Forest, Andy's childhood friend who stays in touch with Andy. He
showed us photos of his and his wife's most recent visit at that time to
Andy's house in Manteo, and I asked about Andy's children. He said that Andy
and his first wife Barbara adopted two children, Sam and Dixie. I don't know
their ages, but according to Emmett at the time, Sam had died of a drug
overdose, and Dixie was living somewhere in Kansas or Colorado, I can't
remember which. Andy is such a private person, it only seems fitting that his
child(ren) be the same.

By the way, Mom and I have made reservations to go to the Mayberry Reunion in
Nashville. We can't wait!!! I have seen Don Knotts in person at the New
Theatre Restaurant in Kansas City, so this will be another treat since I read
he's scheduled to be in Nashville.

Thanks for all the daily updates to the Digest. It makes my day everyday!
Johnna in Macon
