(I always remembered that Fletcher was his last name and his first name
was "Tate." That was the impression I got form watching the episode where
the cows were being stolen. I could be wrong, however.)

I think that the actor that played Tate Fletcher in this episode was the same
one that played Parnell Rigsby, the guy that lost $50 in his "purse". Wasn't
he also the one whose truck was run off the road by Bill Bixby's character?

Pickups - Basketball

In basketball, pickups are informal games. You may hear an athlete stayed in
shape by playing in "pickup" games during the off season. I am not sure where
the name originated, other than it might be whoever lost had to pickup the
"tab" afterwards...

Hey to everyone!

I have just purchased an antique Barbers chair for my home office and I am
going to sell the one that I already had. The one that is for sale is a
1939 KOKEN with a porcelain base, arm rests and seat base. I had the metal
re-nickled when I purchased it in 1995. The porcelain is white and the
cushions are brown. I think that the cushions are all original because they
are stuffed with horse hair and if they had been re-covered (at least
recently), I believe that a different stuffing would have been used. I can
send photos through e-mail to anyone that is interested. Also, since I have
a business that shuts down in the cold months, I may be willing to deliver
for the cost of fuel (I won't drive to Alaska, ha, ha). This is way to
heavy to ship, so picking it up would be your only other option. E-mail me
personally if you are interested, thanks! [EMAIL PROTECTED]

*Barney was standby cymbalist for the town band (the cymbals had genuine
leather grips - cost $18.50 to be exact).
*He was also good at psychology because he had been reading the learn-a-month
magazine and probed Otis' subconscious to find the still.
*He had a flair for research as evidenced by his study of mountain folk
incantations in order to get Andy out of marrying Charlene.
*He could pull an egg out of a milk bottle when he was seventeen.
*He spoke Spanish. "Si."
*He could act - auditioning for the role of Chief Noogatuck.
*He wrote a traffic jingle -Walk on the left after dark or you'll wind up
playing a harp."
*He knew Shakespeare. You're not talking to a jerk, you know.
*He sold vacuum cleaners (or at least tried).
*He dabbled in real estate.

That's all I can think of right now. I'm sure he had more talents, some
probably hidden.

>Lets see how many of Barney's so-proclaimed areas of expertise we can name.

Besides his law enforcement certification...Amazing how big a chain is
needed to hold an ID tag!....he is the Mayberry resident tenor soloist, now
turned professional....which means he can't be in the choir anymore but,
he's an expert! He knows all the police code numbers in the handbook (did
you know 9-1-1 is NOT what WE think?), knows how to fight a fire (probably a
volunteer fire fighter counselor), got Thelma Lou in his hip pocket (must be
an expert on women), an electrical engineer ("I wonder if it would be louder
with bigger wires?") finger printing expert (thank you, Count), children's
literature expert ("Well, what kind of book is that for children to read?" -
Robin Hood). Boy, this list could be long.

Not to mention that he's an expert on Sigmond Fruuuud theories, starting
with the mother figure theory. He uses Otis as his subject over and
over......and when he tried to rehabilitate the four criminals with craft
sets. I'd would have to say Barney acts the psychologist more than the law
enforcement officer......."In our lifetime we travel many roads".........

This morning I was in a hurry to leave the house and just as an episode was
wrapping up I started to shut the TV off when I suddenly got the idea that
maybe we should add one more rule.........Rule Number 3 is: Never turn the
TV off or change the channel while the credits and theme music are still
running! It would be a "rude" to Earle and company! ("Is that the idea I
come up with?" "You better believe it, you little buzzard!") What do you
say, folks? Everyone agree then? No remote grabbing until the thump of the
last finger snap and whistle's echo fades.

>I'm not even sure who Leon Ames is...

He was the school board member that prohibited Helen to put on the dance
skit until she convinced him that the dances he did in his day were not any
different than the current day's dances. Also in Helen, the Authoress
episode. He is probably most popularly known as Doris Day's father in
several of her early movies (On Moonlight Bay, By The Light of the Silvery
Moon, etc).

I didn't remember Grandpa Walton being in Mayberry RFD. I had the good
fortune to spend a weekend in a house he once owned in at Troy State,
Alabama. The scenes with him and Grandma /Hubcaps are treasured
sights.........in case anyone is wondering where I keep all my chickens -
Yancy Tucker knows but he ain't talkin... he ain't talkin........the more
you're asking, the more he's balkin (hey, wait a minute...........what's
wrong here?)

Carol I put my bucket on and gave the subject of Leon Ames a "thank" and
remembered that he played the principal Mr. Hampton. Remember he gave Helen
such trouble when she was directing the senior play because he didn't like the
"wild gyrations" they were calling dancing. I thought Helen was at her best in
this episode, it showed a side of her that was caring and tender when she
explained to Mr. Hampton about the way teenagers felt. I think this is also
one of the last times on TAGS that Goober did his impression of Cary Grant for
Andy when they were painting the sets for the play. I loved how Andy stood up
for Helen in this episode, and Howard is a hoot in this one also.

I bought some new pickles the other day at the grocery store.... it sure made
me think about Aunt Bee's kerosene cucumbers.......

Barney had a talent for disguise, he posed as a cleaning lady at the bank, as a
maniquin at the store and as a lady gambler at the barber shop.

Thanks for all the information about pick-ups. I'll quit waiting for Michael
Finley to execute one.

Hey Everybody

I have a trivia question for y'all. What is the elevation of Mayberry? The
other question is what episode did the elevation number appear?

Have a Great Mayberry Day!
