Re: Irish decent
Surely O'Malley was of Irish decent? Surely since potatoes were the big crop in
Mayberry there were some other "Irishsters.."
Also, on another note I saw the TVLAND Awards last night. It was great to see
all the cast members. One of my favorite moments was when they showed the
audience and Bob Denver (aka Gilligan) was cheering with both fists in the air.
Gilligan was my second favorite show from the 60's, and it made me a little
misty eyed that he was cheering on my first favorite show. And don't forget, he
played Dud Wash in Divorce Mountain Style......Looks like he is a big fan.....

At the end of the seen, I saw a stump in the front yard that looked just
like the one that Eanest T and Romeeena leap frogged over whilst giggling.
Yes, it's the same house. Practically everyone in town seems to have lived
in this house (or the one right next to it) at one time or another. For
example, in "Divorce Mountain Style," it's Floyd's house. In the earlier
episodes, there's a whole tree in the yard, then later on it's just a stump.
The 40 Acres backlot had one residential street that was used over and over.
Almost everytime a scene was set in someone's front yard or on their front
porch, they used one of the houses between Andy's house and the courthouse
(on Maple Road). Seems like every one of Andy's girlfriends lived in the
house with the rails shaped like big white X's on either side of the front
porch.

Mr. McBeeVee sure sounds like and Irishter to me! Other folks in town have
names which might be of Irish (or possibly Scottish) descent, such as
Charlie O'Malley, Old Man McCabe, Old Man Joe MacKnight, and Peggy McMillan.

Just the other day we were discussing tire chalking in Mayberry. Well, I
happened to go to our bank the very next day and what should happen? I had to
slow down as a squad car was going very slowly ahead of me. Suddenly this long
stick comes out of the window and he started to chalk the tires. I started
laughing so hard when I saw it. We never know when Mayberry moments will come.

Just recalled after I sent this that Barney dressed up as Mrs. McGruder's
cousin when he was testing bank security. I believe they play the Irish
tune "The Irish Washerwoman" during this scene.

The tribute on the TV Land Awards to TAGS offered a rare moment I don't
think any of even most dedicated TAGS fans have ever seen. Did you see who
all was standing on that stage in that single shot as Andy accepted the
Legend award? We've never seen so many cast and crew in a single picture at
any time.
It was extraordinary.

I had to tape the Case of the Punch in the Nose show the other nite because I
wasn't home. One of my favorite episodes by the way. After reading the
wbmutbb email about the barber standing on the street when Barney pulls in with
the siren blaring, I paused the tape and ran it back in slow motion. I
certainly don't recognize that barber. It goes by so fast it is hard to spot
unless
you slow it down. Very interesting.
Also when watching the Pickle show last nite I noticed that one of my
favorite Andy lines was cut. Gluttons, gluttons, glut-TONS. Hate it when that
happens.
Heartwarming to see the cast, etc. on the awards show. Actually got a tear in
my eye. I noticed that they seemed to get a huge response from the crowd
anytime the show was mentioned. Nice, real nice.

What a great Awards show on TVLand last night. It was wonderful to see
TAGS get the Legend award, and it was so heartwarming to see all the cast
members! Wow....don't they all look great! Andy looked mighty fine in his
tux.

Saw this last night. What a marvelous story and presentation. There is not
a weak moment from start to finish. Robert Emmerich is wonderful. Was this
the best TAGS ever? Who knows? The moment where Barney is deciding what to
do (Go home, take a nap, go Thelma Lou's for TV) is priceless as is Opie's
"Adventure Sleeping." Definitely a classic.

Hey y'all!
Just wondering again... does anybody have any word on the possibility of Andy
on DVD? Is that STILL not in the works?
Also... Mary Alice... PLEASE contact me. I really need to finalize the money
order. I would really appreciate it.
I was also wondering if someone could answer a question that I KNOW has
already been answered. A while back, someone said that Andy's father was on
one of the episodes... maybe coming out of a store holding a package or
something. Could someone remind me which episode that was? I want to look
for him.
Hope you all have a great weekend!!!

The 'Gomer Goes Home' episode of 'Gomer Pyle USMC' is a favorite one of mine.
Not only do you see Gomer as a Marine back in Mayberry, you see him around
Myers Lake. Scenes were filmed inside the courthouse set of Desilu, the Forty
Acres Lot, and Franklin Canyon Reservoir. The epilogue is a classic when we see
Andy, Opie, Aunt Bee, and Goober coming home in a Dodge not a Ford.
Previously, all four of these characters appeared on 'Gomer Pyle USMC.' They
all visited
Camp Henderson for one reason or another. Ficticiously, Gomer was separated
from Mayberry by 3000 miles. In reality, he was across the hall for interior
shots at Desilu, and across the road from Wally's Filling Station where the
Camp
Henderson huts were.

My wife and I went out to our favorite Mexican restaurant last night. The
atmosphere was great. They have one of these little three-piece Mariachi
(sp?) bands strolling around, consisting of two guitars, an accordion and
authentic Mexican singing. Remembering the wisdom of Barney Fife ("course
ya gotta slip 'em a quarter") I allowed for inflation and waved two quarters
at the lead singer. First, I thought he was showing me the door, but
actually I guess he was pointing to the payphone.
I guess I was supposed to drop in my 4 bits and call someone who would play
and sing for 50 cents. He called me some name too, but I don't think it was
"sport" neither. It was something like "dream on-g Ringo" Maybe he was
thinking of the Beatles, or his drummer. Silly me, later I realized my
mistake. He probably didn't have change, so one of his buddies wouldn't
have gotten a quarter or anything. Oh well, live and learn.
I had something called a "Tor teya" and I don't speak a word of South
American or Mexican. I was able to break the tension a little bit though
and talk a little local culture with the Singer. Turns our Mexico City is
still the capital of Mexico, and Quito is still the capital of Ecuador.
I didn't want to wait around for the floor show, probably the same guy was
the flamingo dancer.

the cast & crew together again! I wish Ron Howard had been there. I thought the
show was great...I wish TAGS was still in production & followed the story of
everyone to their "golden Years!" It was such quality TV...There is nothing
worth watching today, except for TVLAND & Nickelodian.

TVLand produced a quality award show last night. I was so touched to see those
we love from TAGS go up to receive their awards. I noticed Jim Nabors
thoughtfully helping Howard Morris. I was also somewhat sad to see that our
friends are aging. (Won't they be surprised to find that we haven't changed?)
I like to think of them all as they were in the 1960's. I will probably never
get to a Mayberry Days festival and meet the stars. Those of you who have been
part of the festivals since the beginning and have met them are very fortunate.
I am very happy that Andy is getting the recognition due him. The whole cast
was outstanding, but Andy was the "cat's." The tribute to John Ritter was
another kleenex part. Way to go, TVLand. (And I've forgiven a certain someone
for remarks made last year since he said such kind things about TAGS last
night.)

I hope all of you great TAGSRWC folks got to see and enjoyed the Mayberry
reunion on the TVLand awards show last night as much as I did. Seeing all
of those wonderfully talented people together on stage warmed my heart and
brought a tear to my eye! I wonder if Ron Howard was able to watch the
show. It was nice that his dad could be there. If and whenever I want to
feel the comforts of being an 8 year- old again, all I have to do is tune
in TVLand and watch whatever show is on. I am never disappointed. Hats off
to TVLand for making it possible! I see where Green Acres is having a
weekend marathon, that will be great fun and you can bet I'll capture the
episodes on tape.

It is the same front yard, but it is not Mrs. Wiley's front yard. Mrs. Wiley's
house is next door to Andy's house and Wally's house is also next door to the
Taylor house on the other side. If you watch closely, you can see Andy's house
in the background and he and Barney are escorting Ernest T away from Mrs.
Wiley's house.
And that brings up an interesting point. When Barney comes over to Andy's
house as Andy and Ernest T are getting ready to leave for the party at Mrs.
Wiley's, one of them says something about driving over to Mrs. Wiley's. Since
Mrs. Wiley's house is right next door, it seems kind of pointless to drive. By
the time you walk to the car in the driveway you would be halfway there. And
if they did drive over there, why did they leave on foot? Just another
inconsistency to think about.

The www.tvland.com Web site currently has several neat features as a
follow-up to Wednesday's Awards. At the tvland.com front page, click on "Gary
ColemanCam" to take you to the Awards page. From there, click on the
Discretionary
Awards to pull up TAGS and see a slide show of a bunch of rare photos,
including
several from Rance Howard. Also click on the "Watch the Video" link and pull
up "'Andy' Cast in Press Tent," which provides links to four TAGS-related
videos, including a nice interview with Rance Howard. And under "Play the
Games"
on the menu, there's a fun TAGS game. The "Red Carpet" link on the main
Awards
menu mistakenly duplicates the ColemanCam Slide Show at the moment, but
eventually it may be corrected and have Red Carpet photos that include TAGS
stars.
