In the early episodes of Gomer Pyle he is going to Basic training somewhere
nearby Mayberry.
This would be in the Black and White episodes I belive.
After he graduates from Basic, Sarg. Carter takes a job at a base in
California to get away from Gomer but
Gomer gets assigned to the same base for his regular hitch.
Hopefully this clears up any confusion.

I saw that jenny asked about dvd's, I have a possiable answer to that. I
purchased a dvd classic at Wal-Mart from the platinum series that had about
8 or 9 episodes on it. You might try that. The two dvd set was only 5.88.
They also had another one that I can't remember who put out that was
reasonable. If you have a place like On Cue, Sam Goody you might try that.

you all. On St. Patrick's Day, the gossip columnist, Norm! (aka Norm Clark)
wrote in the Las Vegas Review Journal:

Andy Griffith had a confession for a former castmate.
When Mayberry went Hollywood last weekend, Andy Griffith had a confession for
former castmate Margaret "Maggie" Mancuso of Las Vegas. Mancuso, who played
Charlene Darling, the hillbilly gal with a puppy-love crush on Sheriff Andy
Taylor in "The Andy Griffith Show," was reunited with Mayberry's finest when
the
long-running TV show was honored during the TV Land Awards at the Hollywood
Palladium.
Recipients of the legends award, the reunited cast members included Griffith,
Mancuso, Don Knotts (Barney Fife), Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle), Betty Lynn
(Thelma Lou), Elinor Donohue (Ellie), George Lindsay (Goober Pyle), and Howard
Morris (Ernest T. Bass).
Mancuso's character relentlessly pursued Andy during her six episodes on the
show, much to his chagrin. "She even named her child Andolina" recalled
Mancuso, a Las Vegas resident since 1980 and a longtime film locations manager.
Griffith let Mancuso know he hadn't forgotten Charlene Darling's amorous
advances. "He told me he named his golden lab puppy after me. He said
"Margaret
I named her 'Charlene' because she was all over me."
The award show airs at 9 p.m. tonight on Nick at Night, Channel 23.

Bless your heart Vivian, for giving us a schedule of repeats of the Awards,
because I don't know if I had a bucket on my head, or what, but I just plain
forgot to tune in to them, so now will be able to set the old VCR & watch &
tape the show. I was so mad at myself for forgetting & so envious reading all
of the reports on the Digest, but with all those dates will be able to get it
now & enjoy it like the rest of you lucky people who saw it live.

Harriet you asked about Andy driving Gomer 3000 miles to the marine base in CA,
but I believe Andy was driving Gomer to the nearest base there in NC. I got
the impression that Andy thought they would probably turn Gomer down the first
day; that way Andy could just take Gomer back to Mayberry and he wouldn't have
to ride the bus. This shows me that Andy had that sweet Mayberry spirit
towards Gomer. It's a shame that Gomer didn't get the job as a butcher in
Mayberry.....you reckon they'll ask him if he knows how to cut meat??

Lonnie, keep a very close eye on TV Land's schedule. They reran "The TV Land
