Yep, every last one. A fellow named James Aubrey is responsible for that.
TV was in a fantasy trend in the 1960s ("My Favorite Martian," "The Munsters")
and he felt rural America would be a nice escape for urban TV viewers fed up
with hearing about real-world turbulence of the '60s. Apparently he was right
as nearly all of those shows were runaway hits, especially the "Hillbillies"
(several episodes of that show still hold ratings records to this day) and TAGS
(always in the top ten). Aubrey was not a well liked person within the
company, however, and was fired in 1965 (supposedly over his firing of Jack
Benny).
But we still have him to thank for the legacy of TAGS, which had supposedly
been one of his pet shows.

Now, wouldn't it be grand if Mayberry Days could get the whole crew which
appeared on TVland awards show and just have them stand on stage at Col. Tim's
for a while! They wouldn't even have to speak, just stand there. The roar and
applause would be deafening!
Taking my wife out for a while today. She has been surrounded by 4 walls for
a while so we will go to Pullen Park and have a picnic lunch with Andy and
Opie!
And it does appear her leukemia will be in remission so we should make it to
Mayberry Days again this year!

Ted in INDY mentioned how he's used Andy's wisdom in raising his sons, Opie-1
and Opie-2. Over the years, Andy has dealt his wisdom to the real Opie, Ron
Howard. So much so, that Ron Howard was the one dispensing wisdom on the recent
'The Andy Grifffith Show:Back to Mayberry.'
There was Opie-5 1/2 when Andy first met Ronny for the 'Danny Meets Andy
Griffith' episode of 'The Danny Thomas Show.' There was Opie-11 when we first
saw
Opie in color in 'Opie's Job.' There was Opie-14 when Ronny cried at the TAGS
wrap party. Opie-19 appeared on 'This Is Your Life' featuring Andy Griffith in
1973. Opie-29 talked with Andy and Don Knotts over dinner about a possible
reunion project. Opie-32 celebrated his birthday on the 'Return to Mayberry'
set (like he did on the TAGS set years earlier). Opie-39 appeared with Andy and
company on the 1993 CBS reunion special. Finally, Opie-49 brought the circle
together by unleashing his director's wit and wisdom on everybody in last
November's TAGS special.

Actually, I believe its' jumptheshark, not jumpingtheshark. There are
critiques of so many shows on that site. But beware, there are some rather
vicious comments sometimes using foul language. It's not a family-style site.
There are good points of view on there, though. Go check it out. It's a place
to safely vent your disappointment about things like Barney leaving, Helen
staying, colorization, Andy's changing demeanor toward the end of the series,
the introduction of Howard and Emmett, Floyd before & after his stroke, etc.
The section on Ted McGinley is hilarious. I never realized so many shows
tanked after he made an appearance. (was he on TAGS after 1965?) Also, if
you've got a morbid side, check out www.findagrave.com. It has the eternal
physical body resting locations of many TAGS actors/actresses.

Re: I think Petticoat Junction had ties to Beverly Hillbillies and

"Petticoat Junction" was a spin-off off "The Beverly Hillbillies", and
from "Petticoat Junction" we got "Green Acres". Hooterville was
introduced as a town very close to the Clampett's home place when they
went back to visit in an early episode. All shows were on CBS:
Beverly Hillbillies: 1962-1971
Petticoat Junction: 1963-1970
Green Acres: 1965-1971
By the way, "Green Acres" was one bizarre, brilliant, hilariously funny
sitcom - well ahead of it's time.

I just visited jumpingtheshark.com and there is a whole segment on TAGS. I
read most of it and, I must say, it left a bad taste in my mouth. A lot of
bitterness and hate spewed off the page as people vented against some of the
characters. I like some episodes and characters better than others but reading
such venom was not an edifying experience. It made me all the more thankful
for the rules we have here at the rock. Thank you, Allan, for directing a
clean, uplifting digest. I resolve to obey all rules.

Subject: CBS shows / Farmer Jeff Pruitt / jump the shark

"I think Petticoat Junction had ties to Bev. Hillbillies and Green Acres. Were
all these shows on CBS?"
I think they were all CBS shows, but I know that Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat
Junction, and Green Acres were connected. Green Acres and Petticoat Junction
both took place in Hooterville, I believe. And there was at least one episode
of Beverly Hillbillies where the Clampetts visit Hooterville.
--------------------------
"On a recent digest the episode with Andy's father was mentioned. I believe it
was the episode that the farmer takes a wife. I must not have my bucket on
because I can't place it in my mind. Would someone give me more information on
this episode."
This episode featured Alan Hale (the Skipper from Gilligan's Island) as farmer
Jeff Pruitt who came into town looking for a wife. He thought he could pick
out a wife in two days' time, marry her, and take her back to the farm. Barney
makes arrangements for him to "accidentally" show up at an all women party that
Thelma Lou is having at her house While he is there, he is supposed to find a
prospective bride. Of course, he choose Thelma Lou. Barney gets upset, but
Jeff continues on insisting on courting Thelma Lou. So Andy comes up with a
scheme to get him to change his mind. Thelma Lou insists on living in town,
wants Jeff to get a job at a shoe store, and Andy tries to teach him manners.
This makes him mad enough that he loses interest in Thelma Lou and goes home to
marry the lady farmer next door.

"Anyone not familiar with www.jumpingtheshark.com/ might want to visit."
This is a great web site. However, be forewarned that some of the posts there
are not exactly family friendly and many are not in the Mayberry spirit. I
found at least one of the posts there to be extremely offensive. The one that
comes to mind is not about TAGS, so if you only look at the part about TAGS you
may be spared. However, if you can look past these issues, I would recommend
the web site. If not, visit there at your own risk.

Thank you for the post with the legend behind Blue Willow and the website.
My mother recently gave me a set of Blue Willow dishes that she collected
for me years ago, and I can use more serving pieces. Now they have extra
meaning besides the fact that Aunt Bee used that pattern!
