The episode of Opie getting a job was on a couple of days ago. This is the
one where Opie and another kid were competing to get the job in the grocery
store delivering groceries. Andy, Goober, and Floyd were by the barber shop
watching them race down the street and they were talking about what Opie would
be when he grew up....and astronaut, work in a big company, etc. Just think
what he really was when he grew up. Thought it was kind of interesting, don't
you think?

This mystery has probably been discussed before, but I saw the episode last
night where John Canfield (The Congressman) moved back to Mayberry. Question:
What ever happened to him? How about some guesses?
Changed his mind and ran for re-election?
Keeled over after square dancing with Aunt Bee?
Entered the witness protection program?
Moved to Mt. Pilot or Raleigh?
Anyone care to guess, ponder or cogitate?

Greetings from the pen! Hey I realize that I might be able
find this elsewhere but I thought I'd bother the friendly
Mayberryites In the 1986 reunion show was Andys' old house gone.??
I know that Opie and his wife had a house and I think Andy and
Helen stayed there but Ican't remeber the old homested.
.
Also ... Jumpshark. It tends get a bit rough.. Mind you, I don't
object to diagreement and
discussions but rantin' and ravin' (in my humble o) with
foul language and at TV characters! is just a bit looney to me.
Now I don't mean to offend any ranters and ravers out there.
but I'll stay withn the environs of the Digest.
Have a great day all !

BTW, there's also a "Jump the Shark" book that's come out, in conjunction
with the site. I have only thumbed through it, but I would imagine it waters
down, likely even omits, the filthy comments from the user portion of the site
(the ones on the "Brady Bunch" page come to mind) and sticks mainly to what
made
all of the shows "jump the shark" including TAGS (consensus: the departure of
Barney/change to color, just as it is in the site).
BTW, more detail for the uninitiated: the phrase "Jump the Shark" comes from
another Ron Howard series. It's named after the "Happy Days" episode where
the Fonz takes on a dare to water-ski-jump over a caged shark in the ocean. So
he does, leather jacket and all.

Ever notice that the phone operator is named Sarah?
She sure was busy taking care of Mayberry and Hooterville. Maybe they were
close to each other and the Clampetts came not far from where the Darlings
lived.

I watched part of Green Acres last night and Oliver climbed the telephone pole
to answer the phone (like he always has to). He mentioned talking to "Sarah";
was this the telephone operator and if it is, is it the same Sarah on TAGS?

I saw the credits on a Leave It to Beaver Show last night (Thursday in Texas!)
and one of the characters appearing was listed as Amzie Strickland. Didn't
Amzie Strickland appear on TAGS? If so, what character?

I really like the episode where the Hooterville folks put on a play using
scenes from "The Beverly Hillbillies". I've you've never seen it, Lisa
Douglass' portrayal of Granny is great. Just imagine if they'd done TAGS. Can
you imagine Oliver as Barney, Ebb as Andy and Arnold Ziffel as Opie?

Hello Fellow Mayberrians,
Thanks you for such a warm welcome into your club.
My dog Spirit and I are planning on going for a walk down yonder.
I will not be able to attend the festival this year, but maybe next year.
I sent my mom a e-card with a picture of Leon in his cowboy outfit.
a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich. I had the music playing also..she has
not replied.
yet..
Does anyone know where I can find a picture of Floyd the barber.
My hairdresser Tim is real fond of him.
Say can anyone loan me a dime til next payday so I can walk to the
drugstore and get me an ice cream?

I have no "financial interest" in the www.bluewillowchina.com site, but it IS
a hoot.....you should go there just to browse. They sell everything Blue
Willow from piggy banks to wallpaper, from bathroom tissue holders to fabric.
You could create a complete Blue Willow room and display all your TAGS
memorabilia in it!

I just realized Barney and Andy don't wear bullet proof vests. Nowdays, most
police officers wear them even on their days off. Just isn't necessary in my
hometown, after all Andy is the "Sheriff without a gun". But you better
believe Barney would have his. I suppose Barney would even have two-bullets!

Hey Charlie,
Thanks for mentioning the Alamo. Now I know SA is San Antonio, not South
America as I thought. (I was wondering what you were doing down there). We've
been to the Alamo twice, both times when our kids graduated from BMT at
Lackland. Each time we watched the movie about the Alamo in that giant theater
there. It was very interesting. I must not have done my history homework,
because I had no idea what that whole conflict was about. I hope Miss Crump
doesn't find out. San Antonio is a beautiful city. We should know. We got
lost and drove around it quite a bit, looking for our motel.

This may have been answere already I don't know, but in answer to Alan Hale
being on the show he was not. Mr. Hale passed away a few years ago. I am
not quite sure of the date of his passing, but if there is anyone who knows
of this I'd like to know.
