Ah....the great Schwump mystery continues. Who was this man.....this
hallowed actor striving to keep his toupee on? Was he just a haunting
spector or perhaps a reality? We may never know. All we can truly say
for sure is that he poured a mean glass of root beer and he nodded real
good! The rest.....well...perhaps in another generation or
two....someone will dig deep enough to uncover.....THE SCHWUMP MYSTERY!"

Until then.....well....let's just try to fully enjoy the depth and
intrigue of this man called..... SCHWUMP!

Hey Mayberry!!

I just wanted to let you memebers know that I'm gonna be gone for a week but
not to worry. I have a "sub" that's gonna do his best to keep the Digest up
and running while I'm away.

I don't expect there to be any problems but I wanted to let you know I'd be
away. I'm heading out to the Hollywood Collectors show so if you're
there...look me up!!! Maybe I'll see you up at Myer's Lake (Franklin Canyon)
or
something. Our plan is to go up to Franklin Canyon and video Adam and myself
walking
down that dirt road we see Andy and Opie walking down everyday.

I'll also be saying "hey" to several of the cast members there at the show as
well as our favorite TAGS writer while on this trip. I'll have a full report
when I return...and photos too.

Anyway, be kind to our guest "List administrator" while I'm away and have
fun.

TAGS fans,

Saw Julie Adams (Nurse Mary) on an episode of
"Bonanza" last night as a compulsive gambler who tried
to lure Hoss into marriage to pay off all her debts.
The date was 1960. Sure glad she cleaned up her act,
went to nursing school, and settled down! Wish she
had stayed in Mayberry longer, though. Maybe she ran
into that bookie barber and the temptation was just
too great so she left town.

>>>I think Mr. Schwump is so adorable! Does anyone know the actor's name
who
portrayed Mr. Schwump? He was especially noticeable at the party where
Ernest T met Ramona, or "Romeena". Silvia<<

Sylvia, you must be pretty new here, and that's a good thing, because it
causes us to continue to talk about some of our favorite topics. The actor
who played Mr. Scwamp is the last greatest mystery of the Andy Griffith
Show. This question has been asked for years and nobody knows.. Not Paul,
Not Allan, not even any of the co-stars of the show that have been asked.

We like to tease about his hair, and the likely fact that it is fake. I
have this theory about him that he is a Root Beer guzzler that drinks too
much Root Beer and then must leave party's early, and proof of my theory and
the entire Schwamp-ology (new and improved)

113 My Fair Ernest T. Bass-- At Mrs. Wiley's party. Is called by name and
hands the rock to Barney. (always the party animal)
123 The Fun Girls-Seen at the Dance (called by name again, seen getting
bottles of Root Beer)
125 The Rumor--At the Party for Andy and Helen in the beginning, but not at
the end. (RootBeer problems?)
133 The Education of Ernest T. Bass--Sits on the bench with Andy outside the
Courthouse (trying to stay Root Beer free?)
141 Otis Sues the County--Sits on Bench with Andy and Barney outside the
Courthouse (Root Beer safe zone again?)
175 Otis the Artist--At the meeting of the Garden Club when Otis is to
speaks (getting advice from another substance abuser??)
192 The Lodge--One of the Lodge brothers--(a known Root Beer palace!)
appears in first visit but not second (recovering from a little Root beer
buzz?)
203 Only a Rose--At the Simmons Seed Flower contest (refreshments
afterwards??)
210 Floyd's Barbershop-- Reading a Newspaper inside courthouse (safe zone
again??)
240 Barney Hosts a Summit Meeting--With Goober and others who want their
picture taken with the dignitaries
247 Sam for Town Council--At the Taylor house reception as they await voting
results (probably hitting the Root Beer again)
Mayberry RFD--At Andy's Bachelor Party (You know Andy wouldn't have the hard
stuff, but Root beer??)
----------------------------------
As for those Hymnbooks Zman...
What happens with well-used Hymn-books (and Bibles) is that people
put papers inside them like Church Bulletins, and eventually the bindings
come loose, first across the back, and then into the covers from the inside
out. Typically they have to be rebound after they get so loose but perhaps
Edgar Coleman was an expert Bookbinder who knew hot to restore them with a
little Glue..and the hands of Thelma Lou??

I don't have much info. on Miss Crump, but I have it from a reliable source
that she never married and she died several years ago from cancer. I read
somewhere that she dated Jim Fritzell, on of the TAGS writers.

Caught "Andy's Rival" episode this morning and in the beginning I "trained"
noticed something very unusual. Aunt Bee is telling Andy what a beautiful
couple he and Helen are. They are doing the supper dishes. Aunt Bee washes a
plate and sets it in the sink rack. Andy wipes the plates off - WITHOUT
RINSING THEM!!! YIKES!! Wouldn't YOU want even a little bit of water to run
over the plate after washing the food off????? Even in the episode where
Andy and Opie are doing the dishes he rinses before Opie wipes the plate off
on his t-shirt. Well, I guess a non-rinsed dish is better then a dish dried
on a dirty shirt.......

How many TAGS episodes was Warren in? Did they fire him or did everyone just
figure out that nobody could replace Barney? I can only remember just a few
shows with Warren in them. Was he on one whole season?
Just a trivial triviality.

I figured the song books were in disrepair because of the great amount of use
they'd gotten. Mayberry seemed to be a singing town. I'm reminded of Barney
saying something to the effect that you can't ask a bird not to chirp. I think
Mayberry citizens and members of All Souls church felt compelled to sing. The
weather here the last couple of days has been so nice it seems to personify the
song "Welcome sweet spring time, we greet the in song" - is that old 14A or was
it another number?

Saw Aunt Bee visiting Gomer yesterday on a Gomer Pyle Episode.
Sure was good to see her. She was always one of my top 5 favorite characters
from TAGS.
