I suppose by this time, Mr. Schwump is looking down and is greatly surprised
by the impact he has had in all our lives. After all, he was just an extra
on the set working for a daily rate. A sort of portly fellow with a kind
smile and a bad hairpiece. Yet, here we are some 40 years later still
talking about him on an almost daily basis.

While his name is the great mystery, I've always wondered about what his
voice sounded like. And could he sing? I know he didn't look like a
singer, but then, neither did Gomer. What was he like off camera? He
struck me as a kind soul that would be fun to have lunch with. He probably
had some good jokes to tell. And stories from his experiences in "show
business."

I would have appreciated the opportunity to just sit on that bench in front
of Floyd's and pass the time with Mr. Schwump.

I was reading the bio's of the TAGS characters on mayberry.com and
noticed on Opie's page they wrote "Ron's father was actor/director Rance
Howard." Then I went to the mayberry.com home page and noticed on the
picture from the T.V. Land awards that Rance Howard is listed as the man
on the far right. Do you think it was just a misprint in the bio or did
Rance Howard pass away recently? Have a Mayberry Day!Connie, one of the
biggest Mayberry fans in Iowa

I concur about Mr. Schwump possibly being an undercover agent or foreign spy.
The hair piece was possibly a clever guise. People were probably too busy
talking about it (like Aunt Bee's wig) that they didn't catch on. Plus Mr.
Schwump had such a pleasant demeanor, who would have suspected. Perhaps we
should watch the episode, "Barney's Summit Meeting" to see if we can catch a
glimpse of an exchanged signal between him and the Russian.

Mayberry - gateway to mystery and intrigue! There's more to our little town
than we thought.

"I found out that you understand a lot
of things better on TAGS if you live in the rural south for a while."

I spent a good deal of my childhood on the Eastern Shore of Virginia--about as
rural as things get, particularly back then--and we rinsed dishes. I'd always
assumed things like that were motivated by how long the scene needed to last
rather than reality. I'd really like to keep that illusion. :)

RINSING THEM!!! YIKES!

Dishes - I have lived in the south all my life and always rinsed the dishes.
Are you sure this is a regional thing?

I enjoyed very much reading how The Andy Griffith Shows were produced. I
didn't realize they did all the shows with one camera. They would film all the
inside parts at one time and all the outside parts at one time. And then all
the parts would be pieced together in the proper sequence. Fascinating, just
fascinating

BlankHello Everyone,
I had a great Mayberry moment that I found interesting and thought I would
share. Here in East Tennessee we had been having some very nice weather for
a few weeks and it has now turned cold again. So, when I went to my History
class yesterday my Professor made mention of the first day of April and the
ugly spring weather and said It doesn't really make you want to burst out
into song then he began to sing a bit ,Welcome sweet spring time we greet
the in Song. well, of course I was pleased and quickly made a comment about
the song being on TAGS. Now, for the interesting part, he grew up in North
Carolina and said that this was a song he was taught in school as a child.
So, I'm assuming this is how the writers knew the song as well, as my
Professor is about Andys age. Just thought I'd share that with you folks.
Have a great weekend.

Sandy

Hey All,

Long time, no post. Hope all is well with everyone.

Has anyone else out there ever been puzzled by the economic situation of
Andy and Barney's two girls? Thelma Lou and Hellen both seem to be home
owners. I always thought this odd since Barney was barley able to afford
the room at Mrs. Mendlebrights! I wonder what the range was between Andy
and Barney's paycheck?

Here is my question for everyone, (that I am sure has been answered before)
can you identify all the episodes where the weather was not the typical sun
and blue sky?

Take care everyone!

"Watch your foot I'm gonna rock forward!"

Steve Mitchell
