Remember folks, Howard Sprague was reprimanded by his mother for not rinsing
the backs of the plates in the episode 'Dinner at Eight.' His father had the
same bad habit.

If Mr. Schwump is Mrs. Wiley's friend then he's definitely from Backbay
Boston and much too polite to upstage Oliver Gossage. Someone asked about
his singing ability....in the episode where the church buys an organ he's
seen sitting behind Andy, and singing.
Hmmm..... in episodes dealing with the choir, there IS a choir. Then there
are episodes that do not deal with a choir and they do not
exist.....curious, curious. I guess on those shows the choir robes are at
the cleaners, probably getting cigarette ashes dropped on them by Mr. Goss -
which leads to a whole 'nuther issue.....Mr. Goss is never seen outside the
cleaners except in one episode when he dates Aunt Bee. He's certainly not as
socialable as Mr. Shwump.

Re: I am planning to visit Hollywood in the summer and I would like to
visit the lake where the opening scene from the show was filmed. Can
someone give me
directions and tell me if there is anything else "TAGS-related" that I
should see while I'm there?
You're going to have a lot of fun, I'll tell you what! First you
should go by the old studio where the set used to be down in Culver
City. The link follows:
http://www.radoknews.com/andy-griffith-show.html
To get to Franklin Canyon (Myers Lake), refer to the following link:
http://employees.oxy.edu/jerry/frankcan.htm
The direction are: From Los Angeles, head west on Sunset Blvd. Turn
right onto Beverly Drive. Where Beverly Drive and Coldwater Canyon
Road meet, turn left onto Beverly Drive. Turn right onto Franklin
Canyon Drive. Head past the lower Franklin Canyon Reservoir. At the
Upper Franklin Reservoir (Sooky Goldman Nature Center) turn right and
follow the road around the reservoir until you come to the parking lot.
And finally, even though he's since moved back to North Carolina, you
should go by Andy Griffith's old house near Studio City. It is located
at 4645 Ledge Ave., in Toluca Lake. It's about a block and a half
north of the 134 (just east of Cahuenga Blvd).
Have fun,
John W. Sasser

Date: Sun, 4 Apr 2004 19:23:42 -0500
For those of you that are interested, I now have available volume 2 and
volume 3 of the MAYBERRY, RFD episodes on DVD. Volume 3 is titled, THE PALM
SPRINGS EPISODES and has all 4 of the episodes where the gang goes to Palm
Springs. Volume 4 has 4 episodes with the original commercials and the
original opening and closing credits that incorporated the sponsors logo
(Marlboro). If you are interested, contact me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] for
all the information (price, shipping, address, etc.).
Also, I had about 50 requests for the MAYBERRY, RFD: The Best Of Andy, DVD
and to date I've only received payment for one of them (I have the others
made and ready to ship), so if you want to add additional volumes to your
order, there is no additional shipping charges beyond the initial $5
shipping charge as long as they are all shipped together to the same
address.

>>>Likely Andy himself was the source of that musical creative input
[choosing "Welcome, Sweet Springtime" to be sung on The Show].
>>>
Correct as usual, Jeff. A great many of the songs sung on The Show were
taken from an old songbook entitled "The Golden Book of Favorite Songs."
Jewell K. has confirmed that this songbook was used in the Mt. Airy school
system. I found a copy of this neat old songbook several years ago at a
thrift shop for ten cents! It was from a series of books, each with a
different color in the title (such as "The Blue Book of Favorite Songs",
etc.)

>>>Several people had asked Andy to get autographs, pictures, etc. for them
while he was in California. When he told Helen this, she said that her
landlady wanted him to get something for her. I can't remember what it was.
She requested an autographed photo of Dale Robertson, an actor best known
for appearing in dozens of Western movies, and later, the TV show Dynasty.

Subject: Dishes and whatnot

While considering the dish rinsing gaffe, I noticed another little error the
other night. My least favorite visitor Roger Hanover (and I think I can say
that since he was Andy's least favorite also) was sitting at the breakfast
table. He did two things that manners or good hygiene would require hand
washing. He pulled a prank on Opie which involved running his hand across
Opie's face. If that wasn't bad enough, after taking off the silly mask he
had on, he ran his hands through his air a couple times to straighten it up
He sat there ready to eat not considering washing his hands. I guess he had
one of those non-hand washing compelsions
Snow in Mayberry??? Just in an illustration.
Barney (talking to Andy about Quiet Sam "Boy you wouldn't notice a muddy
elephant in a snowstorm, Would You?"
Andy "Are you saying Sam Becker's got a muddy elephant up at his place?"
Now if you want to read a story about what snow in Mayberry might have been
like, check out the Fan Fiction link and the story, An Unforgettable
Christmas. Go to Allan's website and look for Fan Fiction.
http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/index.htm
<http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/index.htm> .
And to whomever ask asked about Rance Howard, that link will also show you
Rance standing there live and in person at the TV land awards. I think the
quote referenced that he WAS a director and actor simply means he is retired
or semi-retired. By the way, don't miss Ron's brother Clint Howard in the
Cat in the Hat.

I am not sure if it did snow in Mayberry, however in the Christmas episode I
do believe I did see some snow on the street when Ben was stealing the bench.
