I was watching Regis and Kelly this morning and their guest was Eugene
Levy. He was describing
a character he is playing in a new movie - a truant officer - and he
said he put some Barney Fife
into the character. He asked the audience if they knew who that is and
of course everybody
CHEERED wildly.

That reminds me: When Eugene Levy was on the old SCTV show, they did a
take-off on TAGS. As I recall, Levy did a great Floyd Lawson. Also, the
skit substituted Rick Moranis as Merv Griffin for Andy.

With the recent discussion of green paint in Mayberry, I got to thinking
about all the references to painting in TAGS. So I compiled a list of the ones
I
could think of. I am sure there are others for all your trained noticers to
find.

1. Townspeople painting Frank Myers house
2. Newton Monroe painting Andy's house and the courthouse
3. Barney saying he was painting to cover up his aftershave smell
4. Mr. Weaver stirring paint to paint the Taylor porch
5. Barney saying Andy had recently painted his kitchen when trying to sell
the house for him
6. Barney painting Chief Dewhurst's office
7. Aunt Bee painting her dresser when she lost her brooch
8. Andy suggested Thelma Lou was painting at her house when all the girls
came to the Taylor house for a meeting
9. Goober saying he painted Sam's house once when he met Edith Gibson
10. Andy was painting the railing in the courthouse in one episode
11. Friend had Andy's room painted when Barney said he was getting married
12. Jewble Foster had paint in his barn when he burned down
13. Goober and Andy helped paint scenery for the high school play
14. Car thieves said they would give Barney's stolen job a paint job
15. Barney said he had painted the orange crates to use for bookcases
16. Aunt Bee talking about watercolor painting when Otis did his mosaics
17. Townspeople repainted all their shops when a movie was going to be made
in Mayberry.
18. Sign was being painted on a window when Barney and Andy talked about
spelling chicken or chickin.
19. Barney wanted to calcimine the jail when Gentleman Dan came (Not sure if
this counts as painting).
20. Howard repaints his mother's house when it becomes his bachelor pad.

Ken
"You can lead a horse to Sunday School but you can't make him sing hymns."
You know who said that? Calvin Coolidge's mother in law.

>>>While watching "Green Acres" last evening....... there was a scene of the
Pixley Police going out
to the Douglas farm ........ Sure looked like it was a shot of the 63 Ford
Squad car from The Andy Griffith Show driving along Myers Lake......

I remember seeing that a few years ago, and I think you're right. I'll bet
they used some stock footage from TAGS.

In one of the early episodes of Green Acres, Oliver calls a meeting of the
farmers one evening, and when they get to the meeting they start complaining
that if they'd stayed home, they could be watching Gomer Pyle.

>>>Yesterday Katie interviewed Eugene Levy ... I heard him say he loved TAGS
for it's great writing and so forth. Katie agreed it was a great show ....

Those of you who remember the old Second City TV show will recall Mr. Levy's
masterful impression of Floyd the Barber. There was a hilarious skit where
Floyd tried to hire a hit man when Howard Sprague didn't pay for a haircut.

Katie Couric has said several times on the air that TAGS is her favorite
show.
