  Appearance***

MAY 8, 2004 - Gallatin

Thanks to Kathryn Darden for the corrected information below. The phone
number is the biggest change but the street address was incorrect as well.

Here's last-minute public appearance scheduled for George Lindsey that
Mayberry fans in the Nashville area might want to know about. He'll be
appearing
from Noon to 2 p.m. this Saturday, May 8, at Memory Lane Gifts, located at 835
Nashville Pike in Gallatin, Tenn. (That's just off Nashville Pike, near the
Kroger store.)

George will be greeting fans and signing autographs, and likely will be
wearing his Goober outfit. For more info, call the Memory Lane store at (615)
230-5150.
Or just drop by and say "Hey to Goober!"

More folklore emerged on TAGS in "Opie the Birdman" (or whatever the
name of that episode was.) Barney standing on Andy's front porch
lamenting the fact that Opie wanted to keep the birds indoors...."It's
scientifically and biologically wrong to keep a wild bird
indoors.....(aside to Andy)...besides
A bird in the house means there's gonna be a death in the family."

<http://www.geocities.com/NapaValley/Vineyard/3281/moonshine.html> the
instructions for making a still & several moonshine recipes along with
the history of moonshining. I found several cities that claim to be the
Moonshine Capitol of the World so I am sure Otis & his brother have
visited each & every one in their day.

I was watching an old I Love Lucy episode this morning on TV Land and Lucy was
buying furniture and none other than our own Mayor Stoner was selling it. I
forgot his name on the show, but the voice and mannerisms were Mayor Stoner up
and down. Has anyone else seen this?

Just a few thoughts on Barney's 45th anniversary.
Mrs. Mendlebright could give him a 45 watt light bulb.
Opie could give him 45 "wormy" horsehairs.
Thelma Lou could give him a pan of fudge, a movie and 45 minutes with the
lights off.
Maybe for this special occasion the count would grant him 45 small wishes.
Aunt Bee could give him a special jar with 45 of her finest pickles in it
And in order to help ol Barn with bullies Ange could pay for 45 weeks of Judo
lessons

Plesha, Susan - [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Wilson, NC

I'm from North Carolina and I've watched TAGS since I was a child and it's
been a long time love affair with the show. I'm 53, divorced, and I have a
master's degree in substance abuse and rehab counseling. I love my cat, and
like
Aunt Bee, I like my house in "apple pie order". I'm a walker and recently, I've
rekindled an interest in riding horses. I am a member of TAGSRWC in Wilson, NC
and I love it. Something about the show makes me want to be a better person,
a more loving person. Also, there are days when I'd love to forget my work, my
computer and all the complexities of my life, and move to Mayberry and sit on
the front porch to shell peas. That kind of stuff makes my soul happy. I
wanna go eat a hamburger at the diner and spend an afternoon shopping with
Thelma
Lou.... I want to eat chicken and potato salad and deviled eggs without
wondering how many carbs there are in that feast. I wanna go to All Souls
Church and
sing (HYMNS THAT I KNOW!!!!) and enjoy the homey sight of the nodders and
flowery hats the ladies wore at that time. If you think I'm a sentimental fool,
I
am!

Of course I love "The Andy Griffith Show," and with the youngest of my
children now in school I have a chance to see some of the of the shows I adored
as a child growing up in the South. My
husband and I both enjoy the show so
much and it's one of the few shows we can
watch and not worry one little bit about
the effect it will have on our children.

COMMENTS:
I was born and raised in North Carolina, attended public schools there and
eventually attended UNC at Chapel Hill. When TAGS was first aired, we lived in
an area too remote for that network, so I didn't become a fan until I left for
college in 1970. So, I guess you could say that I am a true "re-run" fan,
having never seen ANY episodes in first run. I collect all things Mayberry,
plus
anything else related to Andy Griffith. "No Time for Sergeants" remains one of
my all-time favorite movies. I'm still looking for videos of the old "Salvage
One" series.

In regard to the Foxfire books, may I quote our beloved barber who uttered
these famous words upon seeing Gilly Walker's car in the Court House:
"Fascinating, just fascinating."

If you too are fascinated by folklore and mountain living in the deep
Georgia mountains, these are the books for you.
