A few more invisible characters: Aunt Florence, Uncle Todd (the Taylors), Ed
Crumpecker, Mrs. MacGruder, Floyd's Wife, Al Becker, Mr. Deveraux (who owned
the house Floyd "borrowed"), Gomer's daddy (mentioned in a couple of episodes),
Al from the Cascade Club in Toledo, Mrs. Snyder (who lived next door and owned
a cat), Bunny Caldwell who got a parking ticket and bothered Andy on vacation,
Mr. MArtinelli who owned a meat market, Old Man Skinner, etc....It goes on and
on....Although Juanita and Sarah are obviously the most celebrated....

I was ALSO watching the Green Acres Marathon over the weekend, and in one of
the episodes the County Agent, Hank Kimball, lost his job. (Hank has GOT to
be
one of the funniest characters in TV history!!)
Anyway, either his replacement or the person that fired him was Mayor
Stoner from Mayberry!

I don't live in Mt. Airy, but I'm sure up for moving there! As for what
I would do when I got there, I think I would like to do whatever Thelma
Lou did because she never seemed to be stressed out and always had nice
clothes and lived in a nice house!

Hi All,
My husband and I recently went to Mt. Airey and we so fell in love with
it that we honestly did consider selling out and moving there. We just love
Russell Hiatt and he is looking to hire another barber. My husband is a
barber for 35 years now. That way my husband could cut hair while Mr. Hiatt
talks to and entertains his tourist. That keeps him busy all day and he's so
good at entertaining the people with story's and making them feel right at
home like in Mayberry. Anyway we had to decide against it because my health
is precarious and we can't give up our Tennessee health insurance. I'm kinda
attached to my house too but if I could just pick up my house and move it
there that would be great.Unfortunately so many of the original people will
be gone one day and someone needs to carry on what they are doing there,
like Floyd's and Snappy Lunch, etc.I can still dream though :)

Hey to Goober.

>No offense to the NY critic or anyone here, but I rather liked the Dick Van
>Dyke reunion show.

I agree. It was called Dick Van Dyke Show REVISITED - not reunion. Carl
Reiner was asked why he did it the way it was presented. His response was
that he didn't want it to be a typical sit down, chat about the show-show.
He wanted to include the actors who have passed on and bring back some of
the pizzaz that made the show as great as it was. Return To Mayberry was
wonderful and of course we all could have made our own subtle changes to
shape it more into an image that was more of our own making...but.... It
think it was Calvin Coolidge that said, "Everyone's a critic."

Thanks to the chicken sweater knitting lady.....right now they're
molting....or is that melting - it's Florida and it's summer!!!! Something
else I think Calvin Coolidge said - In the South they have only two seasons
- summer and Valentine's Day.

Brent put together a nice, nice list of TAGS episodes which were written by
Bill Idelson. I always enjoyed his work as a writer for TAGS and TDVDS as
well as his portrayal of Herman Glimsher in TDVDS.

Here's a trivia question for you:

Can you name the TAGS episode in which Bill Idelson had an acting role?

I'll give you two hints:

A) It was not one of the episodes that he wrote.
2) He was not listed in the credits.

Go ahead...take a thank on that one. First one who gets it right will win a
horse hair that's been in stagnation water.

Hey All,

Hope everyone is doing well! I am in my last week of grad school in
Syracuse and my wife, daughter and I (The Selfish Giraffes chapter) are
about to move to Baton Rouge. Originally from Nashville we are ecstatic
about returning to the south! I have promised myself that I am turning over
a new leaf and will do better about keeping up with the update.

We were watching The Mayberry Chef this morning and we were trying to name
all the instances where someone from Mayberry made a TV appearance that was
seen on the episode. Any help?

Take care,

Steve Mitchell

Give me a minute to pack our stuff and we're there! My husband would be happy
to work any job having to do with fishing, preferably as a guide or perhaps run
the bait and tackle shop. There are several jobs I wouldn't mind doing. I
could work as a secretary at one of the businesses or Churches, or at the drug
store (no pickles on sundaes, except for Goober), or at the bakery breaking
cookies and denting cakes.

Hey all,

We watched "Howard's New Life" a few days ago (still by far the strangest
episode ever) and caught something that perhaps others have picked up on.

In the scene when Howard is asking Andy, Emit and Goober about their
thoughts on the type of man who would actually give it all up and move to a
island, Goober has a line that is something like "Sorry Howard, looks like
we just voted you out (or off)." With the island talk and the vote comment,
we could not help but make the "Survivor" connection. So if the characters
from TAGS did a season of Survivor, who would win? (Who would be the first
to go?)

Take care,
Steve Mitchell

How many different cars have been seen on TAGS? I can come up with a few.
Lincoln,
Galaxie, Falcon (my favorite-my first car was a "61 Falcon), Comet, maybe a
Fairlane, and the "57 or 58" convertible that Aunt Bee drove. Barney's Edsel,
and a Thunderbird. What kind was Barney's first car, and what was the car
that Floyd was driving in Convicts at Large? How about "that foreign job" that
was repossessed from Jim Lindsey? Any others?

I watched Big Brother last night and I have a few questions:
1. Did men really dress the way Howard did - Plaid sport coat, hat with a
feather duster and saddle shoes?
2. Were there really places where a man could go and dance the night away with
girls who were paid to do such?
3. I missed the beginning of the show. Where were the parents?
4. Why was there a second credit for the music, in addition to Earle Hagen?
5. Where else have we seen Elizabeth MacRae? I know I could check the imdb
but I have an old slow computer and it's easier to ask here.
Thanks.

I took the Warner Brothers Studio Tour in Burbank, CA about 10 years ago. At
that time, they still had the Walton's house and the pond - both on the WB
studio backlot. We were told that the pond on the backlot was also used as
the lagoon on Fantasy Island and many movies.

Hey Fellow Mayberrians, I need help naming a puppy. Per our history, it will
named after a Mayberry character. We have already used Opie, Ernest T. Cat,
Thelma and Bee. We're going to get a female Cairn Terrier (like Toto in the
Wizard of Oz). It's a small dog, unlikely to get hit by lightning. Here's
what we've narrowed it down to: Charlene, Ellie, Daphne, and Phoebe. What do
you like, or do you have a write-in?

My wife has vetoed Sarah because it's too common, and Juanita because she knows
how I'll sing it and doesn't want the whole neighborhood to hear.

P.S. I'm going to the Indy 500. I'll say "hey" to Gomer.

Now if they were giraffes...

Subject: Mayberry moments
Date: Thu, 27 May 2004 23:08:42 -0500

My husband and I just got back from a cruise for our 10th anniversary. We had
several Mayberry moments while we were on the cruise.

First, our stateroom was on deck FIVE.
Second, I had a manicure done while I was on the ship. I almost
wanted to clap my hands and say "Manicurist! Front and center!" Afterwards, I
was admiring my fingernails and said, "Have you ever seen fingernails come out
so even? You can't bite 'em down that good." To which my husband responded,
"I thought you usually cut them with the hedge clippers." Then I said
"Sometimes I use Aunt Bee's poultry shears or her good sized pair of dress
making scissors." So even though the manicurist was not Ellen Brown, we still
could relate the experience to TAGS.
Third, for dinner one night we had baked Alaska. I said to my
husband, "You know, it's that new dessert since it's become a state." I don't
think anyone else at the table had the vaguest idea what we were talking about.
And fourth, with all the different pieces of silverware on the
table, I felt like I was at the Esquire Club, but I didn't have Barney to tell
me which one to use.

So I guess that just proves that there is a little bit of Mayberry everywhere
you go.
