Well I favor Miss Ellie for a girl pup's name.. We have two black and
white English Springer Spaniels. One named Miss Ellie - 4 yr old female,
kind and gentle. The other is named Otis. Wild and irresponsible 2 yr
old male. Go figure. I think he's been just plain guzzlin', and not just
celebrating. I actually saw him once go out route 10 (I think he was
heading for Canada) I tried hypnotizing him (where did you GET the
liquor?) but it didn't work.

I'd like to write in Flossie (the Sultan's Favorite) as an alternate,
but she might get a bad reputation and have to just "tone it down a
little bit" Or perhaps Melinda Keefer if the pup has fat knees.

How about naming the puppy Andelina? That would take in account three
characters. Andy, Charlene Darling Wash, and Dud Wash.

Have a Mayberry kind of day.

I think you should name the puppy Tuscarora!
She may bring you luck then... or at least get you free gumballs.
When you take her in to have her groomed and they ask you how you want her
trimmed you could just say.... " Just loop off the tops."

Or maybe name her Boogum Snartch or Roogley Barch ( spirit of the air and
water?) Those are pretty unique names.

You need to name the dog Mary Grace...and let me tell you why.

1) Barney called Thelma Lou's Cousin a "real dog" when they first started
talking about her (Mary Grace)...and you have a real dog.

2) When people ask you if your dog is pretty you Can say "She's Nice,
Real Nice"

3) She'll love to stay at home with her favorite people (so she won't run
away)

4) She will not get upset easily.

5) The actress who played Mary Grace was also "Ralph" on Green Acres (just
the sound a dog makes..ralph ralph)
6) The first conversation that Mary Grace heard from Mayberry Friends was
about a Dog. You remember the Big Collie Dog that had just been shaved...in
the groceteria with Al Becker?

7) You can call her a Cousin to your other pet, Thelma (Lou)

8) You know she'll just loving playing in the acorns (like Gomer's tie)

9) You know she'll love flowers (like a Corsage)..but don't forget the
main reason your Dog should be called Mary Grace

10) Cause --She's so nice!!!

I know the name for the pup!

It is also an "unseen" character!

Do I get double points?

Remember Gomer telling the story about his dog with several names, "one of
which was 'sport'"

Take care,

Hey everybody...

I hope you all are doing great! I am responding to David's message about
naming his puppy...

David, these are my suggestions...

Rose (the Taylor's first housekeeper)
Emma
Peggy
Flora
Millie
Andelina
Hoggette
Laura Lee Hobbs

...and I like your choice of Ellie, too!

PLEASE let us know what you choose! That kind of dog that you're getting is
PRECIOUS! I've never had one of those, but I am familiar with that breed.
ADORABLE!!!!! How about posting some pictures of her?

If your new puppy looks a lot like Toto on The Wizard of Oz, I immediately
think of "Trembly One" in Dogs, Dogs, Dogs. **Barn

Thanks for the answers, Jeff. My dad used to wear a "full Cleveland." Shudder.

PS I vote for Ellie as a name for the Cairn Terrier. Ellie Walker had dark
hair and a sweet yet spunky personality.

Jim Nabors (Gomer for the TAGS connection)comes to Indiana every year to sing
at the Indy 500 (why he comes) and he sings "Home in Indiana" (Song).......I
have watched parts of the race just for the purpose of this. (Not sure I got

Since a Cairn Terrier is Celtic (you know, from the old country) you
should name it something
Scots/Irish like Mr. McBeevee. Oh, wait, that's a boy's name. How
about Mrs. McGruder. Or
Mrs. McGruder's cousin? Just be careful that she never gets water on
the knee.

What kind of car did Gilly have? Besides being fast that is - speed, speed,
speed. Also it seemed that the lady lawyer had a long, blue convertible - was
it a Cadillac? Speaking of her, she was on Hazel and I can't recall her name,
anyone know?

Oh, my stars!!! Laverne had a FANTASTIC suggestion!!!!! Maude... I love it,
Laverne!

Can't you just see that little dog with that name? I think that was a really
wonderful idea!

I just had to tell Laverne that I'm proud of her for coming up with that one!

The two names that I immediately thought of, before knowing that the dog was a
female, were Malcolm and Leonard (as in Blush). But, I don't think that
little lady would appreciate either one of those decidedly male monikers!

Well, either way... Laverne, good thinkin' you did... musta been under a
bucket... and David, have you gotten way more than you asked for? Again, let
us know what you decide for that little cutie! I have a small beagle named
Bertha, and she's very interested in seeing some pictures of your new
addition!

Have a great weekend!

I think you've got some good choices, and I like Ellie and Daphne in
particular. Dogs respond best to short names ending in a long "e" sound (we
learned that at puppy school when our MARLY was a pup). Two write-in
suggestions: Mavis or TAGS (although neither one conforms to the
above-mentioned rule). Mrs. Mendelbright is too long. So is Mrs.
Bendlemright. :-)

Have fun with your new puppy!

Hey Fellow Mayberrians, I need help naming a puppy. Per our history, it
will named after a Mayberry character. We have already used Opie, Ernest T.
Cat, Thelma and Bee. We're going to get a female Cairn Terrier (like Toto
in the Wizard of Oz). It's a small dog, unlikely to get hit by lightning.
Here's what we've narrowed it down to: Charlene, Ellie, Daphne, and Phoebe.
What do you like, or do you have a write-in?
