Just another comment about naming your pet: My cat is 16, an orange tabby.
Naturally, he looks like an "Opie." He's an Andy Griffith Show fan too!

As our nation commemorates those true great American hero's with a new
monument, lets remember those who were fictionally named, but representative
of true American Soldiers.

As they say in Indy on Memorial Day weekend. The most important flag is not
the Green flag or the Checkered Flag, it's the American Flag.

We know that the opening sequence of Gomer Pyle USMC was real footage of
Marines in training. . Some of whom went on to give their lives for their
country.

Seeing all those WWII vets finally getting to see their much deserved
monument on the national mall in Washington DC makes us wonder if somewhere
there in the crowd, from every "Mayberry" across these United States there
are feeble and teary-eyed grizzled veterans like Al and Bert and the Milo
Boys.

In appreciation

Monday is officially Memorial Day. Merchants call it Sale Day. The Media
calls it the beginning of the holiday season. Veterans....real veterans...call
it
a day to remember those who gave all they had to give so we may live in
freedom. With this freedom we have all the great Mayberry events every year and
don't need permission to attend!
Thank a veteran, but most importantly go to a Memorial Day service and honor
those who paid the supreme sacrifice.
And please....fly your American made American Flag!!
If it ain't American made, don't fly it!!!
happy Mayberry days from a veteran...

>>Happy Birthday to Michael . Pollard age 68, he played Virgil in 'Cousin
Virgil'.<<<

Does anyone know whether Michael Pollard has a son? There is a fella that
does a commercial here in the Tampa Bay area for the local cable network I
think, and he looks a LOT like Michael Pollard. Enough to be his
son/grandson.
I thought it was Michael until I thought he'd be older than this guy. He
sure does look a lot like him though.

Hi Jeff,

I told my husband, Bob, that I did not agree with his choice of a name for
your puppy - Clara, really now!

My vote would be for Daphne (Hiya doll!). She was funny, quirky, sassy, a
free spirit, a pain in Andy's neck ......................................well,
maybe calling her Daphne might not be such a good idea now. Hey, you could
call her Peggy - she was not a pain in Andy's neck - quite the opposite! I
know someone named Peggy - she's sweet, funny, loving, loyal, cute - not at
all a "real dog". This Peggy I know, however can be a real pain in Bob Kulp's
neck!

I've had the BEST time reading all of the suggestions for the puppy name!
I've laughed out loud at a few of them. And, in reply... yeah, I didn't think
about the Bea Arthur connection, but evenso... I still think that's a great
name for the little sweetie! I never did watch that show, so my mind didn't
jump to that, I guess.

I just wanted to thank everyone for giving me some laughs. The suggestions
have been so fun. I hope you, David, have enjoyed them as much as I have. I
can't wait to find out what you decide on.

Allan, lotsa luck to you and yours!

Hope everyone has a fantastic June!

Subject: Ernest T. as an art expert?
Date: Sun, 30 May 2004 14:59:28 -0400

I was watching an old Dick Van Dyke show this week and Ernest T. was called in
as an art expert for a print that Rob had purchased at an auction. He came to
the house and all he wanted to do was drink white wine; couldn't get much else
out of him, even if the print was valuable or not. He still had his hyper
ways, although not jumping around, etc. Was odd to see him in this mode of
character.

Can you imagine him as an art expert with only a sixth grade education and
with only a diploma for learning (how did that go?)? Maybe that is why he
never really decided if the print was worth anything or not.

Re: I want to know did Andy Griffith and Don Knotts ever serve in the
military?

Don Knotts did serve in the military, drafted by the Army in 1943.
Although the U. S. was in the midst of fighting World War II at the
time, Don Knotts saw no combat he was tapped for a special services
unit and spent his hitch touring the Pacific Islands to entertain
troops as a comedian in a G. I. variety show. (There's foresight for
you; even back then they knew he belonged in comedy)

I can find no evidence of Andy ever serving in the military.

>>>That's funny, the world's fastest speedway (Talladega) is located in Nabors'
home county of Talladega County, Alabama...wonder why he never sang anything
here?<<<

You know, I've been wondering why it has become a tradition for Jim to sing
"Back Home in Indiana" at the Indy 500 when he's actually from Alabama! (Not
that I object, since I am a Hoosier myself, though presently living in
Illinois.) Does anyone know how he first came to sing there or why he was
chosen to sing that song? It is a might curious!
