HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDY!!!!!
Hey Folks,
Just wanted to wish "The MAN" a Happy Birthday.
Andy, just like all of the members of the greatest show on earth (and us as
well) are all getting on in years. Do yourself a favor and attend one of the
Mayberry gatherings in the near future to see these great performers up close
and personal.
Tickets are still available for the Nashville show. Head Goober Jim Clark
tells us that individual tickets for the Friday night show will be available
starting Tuesday. A lot of great stars will be there.
Tickets are also still available for the 3rd installment of Mayberry in the
Midwest in New Castle, IN. This weekend allows many, many opportunities to get
to "shake and howdy" with your favorite Mayberry performers. Check out there
web site for more information (_www.mayberryinthemidwest.com_
(http://www.mayberryinthemidwest.com) )
And finally, Bert Miller will be taking the Mayberry Emporium on the road to
this weekend, June 5-6, the Knoxville, TN Expo Center for the annual
"AdventureCon". Dozens of celebrities will be in attendance to meet and sign
autographs for fans. There will be over 400 tables with toy, collectibles and
TV/Movie memorabilia. Bert will have photos, autographs, prints, posters,
DVD's,
trading cards and a whole raft of items for sale and/or trade. Admission is
only
$6 per day. For more information go to: _www.toyshow.org_

I must put in my two cents worth on pet names. I had my "Andy" cat for
almost 18 years. He was followed by "Aunt Bee". She has been a part of my
life
for 5 years.
She is gray like the color of Aunt Bee's hair and is a bit "heavy-set". Oh,
and there is a "Barney" Beta on my desk in my office.............:o)

Hi, everyone. Just joined the list and you guys have already given me a few
smiles. Thank you.
A little research on Michael J. Pollard: I did not find any info on a son;
however, he was married from 1961-1969 to actress Beth Howland (ditzy
waitress Vera on the show "Alice") and they had a daughter. Also, Pollard is
a stage name---his birth name was Michael J. Pollack.

Subject: Nabors 500 history

History is not my subject, but here's what I could find out about Gomer's
history here at the Indy 500. He has been singing the song since 1973. At
that time, he was asked to sing by Tony Hulman, the legendary owner of the
500 track for several years. The song was sung previously by James Melton
from 1946 when the tradition first began until Jim took over in '73.
Here is a quote from this year.
Jim Nabors kept a baseball cap on throughout the show. In case you ever
wondered, he said that the first time he sang "Back Home Again in Indiana"
at the race, at Tony Hulman's request, he wrote the words on his hand so he
wouldn't forget them. He hasn't had to since then. "The words get into your
soul", he said.
Here is the chorus that Jim sings.
Back home again / In Indiana,
And it seems that I can see
The gleaming candlelight still shining bright
Thru the sycamores for me.
The new mown hay sends all its fragrance/ From the fields I used to roam;
When I dream about the moonlight on the Wabash, / Then I long for my Indiana
home.
----------------------------------------
I don't guess nobody recollelects why Tony Hulman first asked Jim to sing,
but he became and instant hit, and has become a huge part of the pre-race
tradition. Perhaps the other candidates were from somewhere's else, like
Ancient Greece. Maybe there was a little contest, and you know haw tough
Jim is when he just caterwauling.
People who know very little about the race, know who sings that song,
Perhaps it's the cheers of the 400,000 plus live fans that keep Jim coming
back. So, Dixon, I guess maybe a Hoosier just asked him first..and you can
only sing a legendary song at one place. (at least that's what I thought
when I had my bucket on). You say they got a little track down there is
Alabama huh?
Do you need anybody to sing the Alabama song..like..
The Untrained Voice???

Hey Gang,
I saw something interesting last week. I was watching a late night episode
of the sitcom 'WINGS'. Lowell, the mechanic for Sandpiper Airlines came
into some big money and decided to buy the wax museum there in Nantucket.
He gave his friends a tour of the museum. Low and behold there was a wax
figure of ol' one bullet Barney, decked out in his deputy uniform. It was
a very good liking to him if I do say so myself. Then the next exhibit was
Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies, sitting there in her rocking chair
and I believe her shotgun was lying across her lap.
Say hey to Gomer,
Eve in Missouri
Barney?. They sure got slim picking's in here. Dogs nothing but dogs.
Andy?.. Barney!
Barney?.. Andy, If you flew a quail through this room every woman in it
would point.
