Didn't that fellow that played the Native American later bowl for Mt. Pilot
when Howard Sprague threw his 300 game? I've seen him in a lot of places, but
I can't remember his name.

>>i've wondered about this before, and don't know if it's been discussed
here, but were there ever any African-Americans on TAGS? i do remember
a color episode in which a black man played a football coach, and i
have a vague and possibly incorrect memory of seeing a person of color
in one of the black and white (pun intended!) episodes.
can anyone clear this up..?
thx,

BARNEY GETS HIS MAN
In the episode where Barney 'accidentally' tackles Eddie Brook (escapee from
Atlanta), when the crowd circles them and Andy is questioning Barney to find
out what happened, there is an African American woman standing right behind
Barney, holding her pocket book and listening to the crowd confirm Barney
giving the guy a "flying tackle", etc.
I believe that same woman is in another ep, in the background, but I can't
remember which one right now....

I've been a Cheerwine officianado most all my life. Growing up in the Triad
of NC, my tastebuds were right there in the heart of Cheerwine country. Since
moving to Nashville five years ago, and almost having to do without, the
territory has expanded. Last week whilst in a Kroger in Smyrna, I beheld the
familiar red and white logo right there on the soft drink shelf. My heart went
pitter-patter and my tastebuds started perking up. Now the way I see it, for
those of you in the Bluegrass state, you can go to eastern and western
Tennessee or Virginia for your fix. It's rather limited in middle Tennessee.
BUT...if you ever get to Greensboro, NC, you absolutely MUST go to Yum-Yum
Hotdogs over near the UNCG campus for a couple of dogs all the way and a
Cheerwine. As good as porkchop sandwich from Snappy Lunch! Now I'm hungry
again. That clock in my stomach is going tick-tock and I'm getting a sinkin'
spell. **Barn

Hey, pb!
I also recall seeing the black man coaching Opie's football team. That was
the episode where Opie wanted to play football and learn the piano at the same
time, but didn't have time for both. I do not recall the man's name, but he
was a former NFL player.
In the black and white episode, I did a see a black man in the background (no
lines spoken). I saw this episode maybe two or three months ago, and
commented to my wife that there was a black man in the background. These are
the only two episodes that I am aware of.
Has anyone else seen others?

Members,
Just a couple observations about trinkets left over from the show....
Our own Mike Creech traveled to LA and met with Andy's former manager Richard
O. Linke a few years back and was allowed to pin on one of the badges that Mr.
Linke still has from the show. Also, if I'm not mistaken, I've heard that Don
Knotts still has the old salt and pepper (you know, it hangs just right for the
dip). And just recently, a prop company in LA sold a prop gun that was
supposed to be Barney's ol' Roscoe. This was sold on e-bay and again, if I'm
not mistaken, the selling price ended up to be around $8,000.00. Don't quote
me on that though. I don't believe that there was anyway to substantiate
whether or not it actually was Barney's gun, but I sure wish I'd have had
$8,000.00.
Does anyone else know of any other items still around? I know there are prop
companies that sometimes sell things that were used on different TV shows. If
anyone is interested, you have to watch e-bay for those. But who know's
whether or not they were actually used on those shows.
Have a Mayberry day.

Subject: Lady Singers
Don't forget the beautiful rendition of "Away In A Manger" with Ellie.
___________________________________________
After watching Andy and Peggy singing a duet last nite I began wondering how
many different ladies Andy sang with. Didn't he sing with his date, Mary? It
seems to me that Helen never sang. Anyone remember some others and did Helen
ever sing on the show?

I think they would have had a more realistic poll if they had asked you to vote
for 1 favorite dad, instead of the top 10. I'm sure Andy still would have won,
but my guy, Ward Cleaver would have been higher up than 8. Speaking of tv dads
(and a single parent, like Andy) what about Lucas McCain, of the Rifleman,
played by Chuck Conners? I always loved that show, and like TAGS, it espoused
true values by example, not by shoving them down our throats (like Cosby and
several others). Maybe it's because The Rifleman wasn't on TVLand. Those
re-runs are shown on Hallmark Channel....but The Simpsons and The Osbournes
aren't shown on TVLand, either......curious, curious........

I agree... but... just don't say anything about whether or not Homer Simpson is
a good TV Dad -- that would start a big moulage!

<<I've wondered about this before, and don't know if it's been discussed

This question came up some time ago so I started tracking it. The
interesting thing is that some of the principles in the show have said that
there weren't any black people in Mayberry. There weren't any in jail, but
if you look around Mayberry you will seem members of the Mayberry black
community going about their daily business. I am currently setting up a set
of images showing exactly where and in what episode they appear.
Gomer says "Hey!"
