Good thing you're related to Mr. Crawford at the drug store (there's alot of
drug stores in Mayberry - Walker's, Mason's, Crawford's) and not related to
Tracey Crawford, over in Chattanooga, who Andy has to extradite. :)
My maiden name is Ward but I'm not related to the Cleavers. My current last
name is Browder, and is usually confused with Neil Brower....but I'll take
that as a compliment.
I think we've mentioned this before but if not - how about a list of foreign
languages spoken - Mexican, German, French readily come to mind without even
the help of a bucket....What other languages are spoken or mentioned in
Mayberry?

Make sure on the trip to Greensboro that you don't "try to fit in a little too
quick" like Ed Sawyer. You might have people thinking you are a spook or a
foreign spy or something. Sprechen ze Deutsch?

I was watching my grandbabies in their little pool this weekend playing with
some beach toys. Didn't take much coaxing to get them to put the bucket on
their head. So I've got a picture of both of them "havin' a thank" under
there.

Date: Thu, 24 Jun 2004 08:49:39 -0400
I always figured that all the sheriffs knew each other from sheriffs'
conventions and such. Remember that's where Andy was when Goober had the
car in the court house.
You'll also remember the writers using what I call "explanatory dialog" in
that episode. That's when the characters say things to each other so we'll
know what's going on. I don't remember the script exactly, but Aunt Bee
says something like "Sheriff Jackson called, said he was in town and would
stop by the court house." Andy, in horror, says "Sheriff Jackson, the head
of the Sheriffs' Association?!" That dialog only makes real sense if Andy
knew 2 Sheriff Jacksons, but we did need to know how important this
character was and why Andy would be so stressed by Sheriff Jackson
discovering a car in the court house.
Caught another bit of "explanatory dialog" the other day on Mama's Family.
Mama says something about some store and another character says "You mean
that place where......................." and filled us in on the details of
why this store was important to the story.

Actually, that was "Electrowoman and Dynagirl," and Alden played a scientist
who worked with the two female superheroes. TV Land reran that show not long
ago in their "TV Land Kitschen" late night block.

Subject: andy's character change
From: pjb <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
hi all....
i watch tags on tvland out here on the west coast. they recyle the
seasons, apparently...they'll start at episode one, then run thru the
entire cycle of seasons (including color), and then start at the
beginning again. well, they just started at the top a few days
ago...it's so nice to see ellie again. anyway, there's one thing that
strikes me everytime i see those first episodes. in them, andy was
very much a country bumpkin (and i mean that in the kindest possible
sense). his speech was twangy as all get out, and he seemed capable of
becoming hysterical under the right (wrong?) circumstances. but i
notice that, as the program progessed, andy's character very soon
became more....i don't know, smooth, almost urbane (for mayberry). the
accent flattened out a bit, and he wasn't quite so (again, kindly)
corny. why do you suppose the producers/directors initiated this
change in andy's character? or maybe it was andy himself? my theory
is that they felt that since everyone else in mayberry was so
eccentric, they needed andy to be more level-headed and 'normal', for
lack of a better phrase. any other thoughts on this would be great.
thanks--
pb

I am pretty excited, because I will be attending my first ever Mayberry event.
My dad and I are making the road trip from Minnesota to Indiana and we are
really looking forward to it. Being this is the first time I have ever been
to a Mayberry event, is there anything I should know? For instance will there
be picutres there for sale for the stars to sin or should I bring my own
stuff? What is the cost of an 8 ny 10 photo? Do the stars charge for there
autographs? Is there any thing else I should know. Are their other places we
should not miss in the New Castle area?
thanks...and have a Mayberry day.

Our church is wanting to put on a "Mayberry" christmas play this year to
surprise our pastor who is a huge Mayberry fan. Every Sunday he uses a quote
from a show in his sermon. My question is, will I run into any copyright
problems? They play will just be for our church and no admission would be
charged. I don't want to get into any trouble with the high sherriff!
Thanks

For those of you curious about Jack Burns, I'm pretty sure I'm right in
saying
that he was an early stand-up partner of George Carlin well before either
became
well known. I'm sure I've seen a bio of Carlin that showed him performing
with
Jack Burns in the early sixties.

Jeff,
We'd love to get tickets to the Oakboro show. We'd
prefer the afternoon show, so that we can get down
there and come back and not have to pay boarding fees
for the dog though, nor motel fees for us.
Anyhow, I tried the http://www.oakboromusichall.com
website and get a message that the site's under
construction.
Meanwhile is there a phone # we can call for the music
hall to order tickets? How much are the tickets? It
seems like when I checked the website a month or so
ago, they were what I consider to be low cost.
The tickets for Mayberry in the Midwest (
http://ww.mayberryinthemidwest.com ) are low cost as
well, but we can't afford the gas and hotel bill.
As I said, we'd prefer the afternoon show, but hope to
make the evening show if the earlier doesn't work out.
Thanks,
Jim Hady

Subject: 2 Cannon day!
Date: Thu, 24 Jun 2004 22:58:42 -0400
Earlier today, my local station showed the Episode called "The Cannon" It's
the Color Episode When the Governor and the Mobile Museum comes to Mayberry.
Warren is infatuated with the cannon and inadvertently fires it.
Then tonight, of course, TVLand featured the B&W episode #14 the Horse
Trader, where Andy and Barney have to sell the Cannon.
Quite an interesting coincidence of a two-gun salute.
Interesting tidbits.
Episode #14 is the only one I recall where Barney supposedly has a house.
Andy tries to coax him to put it in the front yard of his house.
In one other episode Goober mentions guarding the cannon on Halloween.
So another inconsistency...how did they have a cannon in the color episode
if they sold it in the B&W??
To the earlier questions about the character inconsistencies...this was just
the nature of the TV business in that era. We love to notice and point out
these little quirks...but we don't worry too much about them. We learn to
love 'em...just like kerosene pickles.

Subject: Not a complaint, just concerns and suggestions
Date: Fri, 25 Jun 2004 05:57:22 -0500
Hey,
Last weekend my mom and I went to Nashville for the Mayberry Cast Reunion. It
was wonderful, especially since it was our first official Mayberry event in
which to participate. However - and don't think I'm complainin', but I wish
to pass along some concerns and suggestions for another time that could make a
difference for folks.
1. We - and many people behind and beside us in the autograph line did not
know that some of the stars charged for their autographs. Yes, I can
understand why now, but when on a tight budget, we were only able to see
Thelma Lou as we didn't have enough $$$ (and patience) to see each one. So we
just chose one. Also, couples were taking turns with one ticket to go in and
have turns seeing the stars. Perhaps this should've been made clear up
front.
2. We were told in NOVEMBER that our tickets to the GOO show would be in the
Gold Circle. Well, when we checked into the hotel, they printed our tickets,
and we were in row Q! I know the hotel got a new system or something, but
part of the reason for going on the weekend was to be up close, not in the
last row!!!
3. My opinion in that the person(s) in charge of the event planning at the
hotel should arrive earlier as we heard even the employees working the doors
and tables voice concern that they didn't know what was to happen exactly, so
they couldn't relay that info to the fans.
There are more suggestions, but these are the "biggies." I hope someone can
read them and they will make a difference at another event.
It was WONDERFUL to have dinner and enjoy entertainment (MY FAVORITE EVENT) on
Friday night with people who actually understand Mayberry!!!!
Thanks to whomever is responsible for getting the great Mayberry guys and gals
together so we may enjoy the shows. Good luck in Indiana; maybe I'll get
there one of these days.
Thanks again, and best o' luck to you and yours.
JB
