Last night when Barney locks up the whole town, the court house has that
huge sign over the door announcing that this was the court house. I don't
remember whether that was part of the set in other episodes. I figured it
might have been one of those first year bits that disappeared as the show
got established.

The episode that comes to my mind with the least amount of set changes is the
Christmas episode. It all takes place in the courthouse. It has to be one
of my absolute favorites.

HI all - I have a trivia question I thought might be a good one to ponder. I
was trying to think, which episode(s) - Black & White only - have the
"fewest" number of set changes? Makes you think!

Having seen the reference to a real life Otis out there, I am grateful that
our TAGS Otis got sober. He was a swell guy. Andy Griffith starred in a
movie "Under the Influence" which chronicles the nightmare of alcoholism and
the effects of this disease on the whole family. Andy does a superb job as
the father in the film. I'm a substance abuse counselor and I show this one
to my clients. It definitely makes a statement.

As long as we're talking about different kinds of hot dogs-
up here in Michigan we have these restaurants called Coney
Islands. They serve up hot dogs with the best chili (and all
the other fixins) you have ever had! They're mighty fine.

I'd perfer to think of Andy as retired and enjoying his elderly days sitting
on the front porch, strumming his guitar or reading the latest edition of
Opie's newpaper. Maybe even telling some of his famous stories to his
grandchildren and offering some logical solution to the now (Warren or
whoever) sheriff's trouble check situations........

I would think episode Prisoner of Love would have to be one. I haven't seen it
in a long time, but if my memory serves me correctly the vast majority of the
episode takes place within the courthouse. I think there was a short scene of
Andy sitting on his porch at home, but other than that I think it was all
within the courthouse.

Most peculiar way I ever had a dog served was at Sam's Corner in Myrtle
Beach, S.C. (World Famous Hot Dogs, 24 hrs) The "chef" behind the
counter asked me if I wanted what sounded like "peetahpan" I looked at
him like he was speaking Shawnee (the savages, I lived among them) and
finally he pointed to a jar of Peter Pan peanut butter. I don't know if
that is a regional thing or just a quirk of this restaurant.
Anyway I'm like Goober, I'll try anything. He toasted the bun, spread a
layer of crunchy peanut butter, foot long grilled dog, onions, mustard,
sweet relish. It was GOOOOOOOD if you didn't think about the peanut
butter too much. Kind of like how I eat snails. I did let the chili
sauce go by, and on second thought will try that combo the next time.

To Miss Celia,
I knew of a little restaurant in Elkview, WV which is just north of Charleston,
where a lady my mom grew up with served hot dogs with cole slaw on them. The
kicker is if you like cole slaw. Some people can make good cole slaw and some
people can't make it worth a LICK!!
Regarding Return to Mayberry, I think it would be real nice if Andy and Ellie
got together, so Ange could get a discount on his pills and Barn his foot
powder. Ellie and Ange made a great couple, but so did Peggy and Andy. Ange
had his major misunderstandings with both.
Stay home and feed your hungry buzzard! (hot dogs with cole slaw LOL!)

We used to live in Cross Lanes, just outside Charleston, WVa. I got them at
the Sears store in town. They used to have a restaurant as part of the store
back then.

Thanks for the merger update. Don't forget Jell-O -- the TAGS cast did
spots for Jell-O pudding, such as the one from "Mr. McBeeVee" that went
something like this:
Andy, Opie, and Barney are in the Taylor kitchen eating pudding, and Opie
asks if he can take some out to Blackie. Barney starts to get mad about the
"invisible horse" all over again, but he's surprised when the horse sticks
his head in through the kitchen window!

Growing up in the south, I, too never know'd there was anything but a
coke. In fact, my entire childhood (and even now), I called all soda
pops "co-coler". Looks funny, but sounds mighty right!
On the subject of sustenance, I'm not a frankfurter eater normally, but

I, too, am against the idea of another TV movie about Mayberry.
"Return to Mayberry" was good enough as far as movies go, but many
years ago, I came up with what I believe is a good idea for a TV
series. Like jgerman in his post of yesterday, I envision this: It'll
be a one hour weekly series, called "Mayberry" (because, after all, the
town is the star), and it'll feature all living cast members who have a
mind to participate. Of course it'll center around Andy and Barney,
and will feature heart-warming, family dramedies. Yes - this series
will be more of a comedy-drama than a situation comedy, and, as I said
would be one hour in length. They are retired now, back in Mayberry
(where else would they retire too?), and would spend a lot of time on
the front porch. I believe two professionals like that could fill most
of the hour just improvising on that porch. I think it would be a
beautiful, poignant, even at times elegiac way to ride into the sunset.
A show like TAGS deserves no less.

then of course the time he sought solace with Mavis Neff. Were those the

...course he had that who house full of girls when Barney tried to do his

Let's not forget that earlier on, Charlene always tried to get Andy..

Just wondering when the first mention of Barney having his bullet in his pocket
was. While watching the "Gentleman Dan" episode tonight it seemed like that
might have been the one.
Another first I was wondering about was which episode was the first Thelma Lou
appeared in? These may have been discussed before but I don't remember.
Also, we had a great time in Nashville, Tn. Looking forward to "Mayberry in
the Midwest III" next week!!! Be sure and say Hi to Briscoe!!!

Hey Folks,
I just wanted to remind WBMUTBB Members that there is a members only area
where you can visit with one another in a more "informal" and personal way than
we allow here on the WBMTUBB Digest. It's "The Golden Door to Good Fellowship"
and it's just for you...WBMUTBB members.
There's a "Fellowship Hall" as well as "Mrs. Wiley's Tea Party" that's aimed
at single folks visiting....the best part is we can all be a fly on the wall
like Barney.
More areas can be added so suggest away. Drop by and register so I can give
you access to the members only stuff. You won't be able to see it all until
I've approved you as a WBMUTBB member.

Enjoy!!
