There were recently some of the village pieces sold on ebay. If you type in
Hawthorne they usually pop up. I did just sell some for my mom and I noticed
several others. You may have to just get piece by piece. I do have one court
house left of hers but it does not have the original box with certificate, but
if
you are interested just email me. I always check under Andy Griffith Show and
Mayberry also. Wish you luck in finding these.

***Last evening I caught a radio program and thoght I heard Parley Baer's
voice. I think that the program may have been "Adventures in Odyssey. ***
Parley Baer was one of the most prolific radio actors ever, so that wouldn't
surprise me. In addition to creating two classic TV characters while their
shows were still on radio (Chester on "Gunsmoke" and Eb on "Green Acres") he
dashed from studio to studio, often appearing on four radio dramas in a single
day, something unheard of on TV now.
***Also there was a clue in my TV Guide crossword _________ Corsaut of
Mrs. G Goes to College. Of course the answer was Aneta. Does anyone know
anything about this show?***
Gertrude Berg, who earlier had played Molly Goldberg on "The Goldbergs,"
appeared in this early '60s comeback attempt that didn't go anywhere and lasted
only a season. I had no idea Aneta Corsaut appeared in it. The time frame
would
suggest she auditioned for "The Andy Griffith Show" immediately after "Mrs.
G" got cancelled.

Thank ya' Ernest T. and Aunt Bee for taken' up for us who seemed a little
single minded there for a while. It sure don't seem like much of a community
when you get told to pipe down for talkin' about somethin' as harmless as,
well, you know. Why many's the time we've had to sit and listen to one of our
neighbors go on and on about some trivial triviality. Best thing to do is
just grin and scroll down. It's all in fun.

Hello all,
Stephen Spignesi here. As many of you know, I wrote MAYBERRY, MY
HOMETOWN way back in 1987, and I still have my own TAGSRWC chapter
(although I keep forgetting to post meeting notices on the courthouse
bulletin board so usually I'm the only one who shows up.)
The reason I'm writing is to tell you all about a new magazine called
CINEMA RETRO which is about classic and cult films of the 60s and 70s.
(I'm writing a series of articles about the movies of the Beatles for
the magazine.) One of the editors of the mag is Lee Pfeiffer, who
wrote THE OFFICIAL ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW SCRAPBOOK. Lee's recent message
to magazine contributors was particularly exciting for TAGS fans.
> Last week, I conducted an in-depth interview with comedy legend Don
> Knotts. To my knowledge, this was the first time he has ever discussed
> his feature films at length. Generally speaking, he is constantly
> asked about his award-winning role on "The Andy Griffith Show" (which
> you uncultured Brits probably never saw!). However, in the mid-1960's,
> Knotts made a series of comedy films for Universal that have become
> cult classics. Don discussed the making of "The Ghost and Mr.
> Chicken", "The Reluctant Astronaut" and others. These films were very
> important for Universal during this period and studio boss Lew
> Wasserman was widely praised for having the foresight to sign Knotts
> for low budget features that spawned millions of dollars in profits.
> Knotts also discussed filming "Mad, Mad World" for director Stanley
> Kramer.
So, if you're interested in this exclusive interview with Don, check
out the mag's website www.cinemaretro.com. I'm looking forward to it.
(Goober says hey.)
All best,
Stephen Spignesi

Last night I was watching a DVD of cop shows from the 1970's and saw Hope
Summers (Clara) on an episode of Starsky and Hutch. She and her husband were
living in an old folks home and planted dynamite in the trunk of their car.
They wanted to blow up the rest home because the living conditions were so bad.
Their car was stolen though and Starsky and Hutch had to track it down. She and
her husband had to go to jail but of course were later released.
Suzanne Somers, pre-Three's Company, was also in the episode as a go-go dancer.

Hotdogs forever... At least the bud nippere didn't want to
take then out to a field in a storm...Hotdogs are close to the ground
ya know not like giraffe burgers.. Hotdogs are Mayberry staple.
Long live the Hotdog. They aren't selfish either.

Subject: TAGS Trivia
This morning on a local oldies radio station the DJ asked a TAGS trivia
question: "What was the name of the hillbilly family that frequently came down
out of the hills to play music with Andy Taylor?" Of course someone quickly
called in with the correct answer of "the Darlings."

Subject: Beasley and Mary

"I noticed on TAGS last nite that Juanita's last name is Beasley. Is
Beasley one of those names that Andy Griffith used because he really knew
someone by that name? Isn't that what Goober's last name started out to be?
I'm not a trained noticer but this has me wondering. Oh, and Mary, the girl
with her front teeth missing, was the same girl that Opie wanted to enter
in the beauty pageant. Was her name Mary on that show too?"
Yes, yes, and yes.
Andy Griffith has at least one cousin whose last name is Beasley. I think
her first name is Lorraine. She has been on at least of the TV shows about
Andy Griffith, but I am not sure which one(s).
Goober's name didn't exactly start out to be Beasley, but he is called
Goober Beasley in one episode. It is the one where the bank robbers pose
as TV producers wanting to make a TV show about Andy - "Sheriff Without a
Gun". This is the only time he is given the last name Beasley. In all
other episodes where his last name is mentioned, it is Pyle.
Mary Scoby (with the front teeth missing) from the episode "Andy
Forecloses" is also Mary Wiggins, the prettiest girl in town according to
Opie, in the episode "The Beauty Pageant". The same actress (Joy Ellison)
also appears in "The Christmas Story" as Ethie Muggins, in "Opie's Most
Unforgettable Character" as Betsy, and in "Opie's First Love" as Iris.

I just got home from Mayberry in the Midwest, had a wonderful time. My
daughter who lives in Anderson, IN went with me, she had a good time to. I
had my picture taken with Thelma Lou and am printing it out right now 8 X
10. Also bought a photo of Barney that was autographed.
Talked to Allen Newsome and David Browing, it was just a real good time
seeing everyone that loves the show as much as I.
