In case you haven't noticed, the key is hanging right outside the cell door (
should be in the drawer), so just affect your own release. ( hope the
Inspector is not around ). BUT, if Aunt Bee is serving chicken and dumplings
for
dinner that night, you might want to stick around a while.

The other night on America's Funniest Videos (replay I believe) the winning
entry was a cockatiel who whistled what appeared to be the entire TAGS
opening theme.

I never heard anyone from Mayberry use the word "hotdog"- aren't they
referred to as weenies? Remember the awful dinner that Andy made for Opie
before Miss
Peggy showed up? He told Opie to eat his "weenies and beans". I think there
were a few other times, they made a reference to weenies. I spent summers with
my grandmother in the South during the 60s and I think she also called them
weenies.
Wasn't this subject covered in one of Barney's magazines of the month?

Subject: Out of jail! But off line for a while

Hey Mayberry friends.
Well I slipped out of jail today because I heard there was a disturbance out
in front of the hotdog stand. The key was right there on the nail, so I let
myself out, put my pretend deputy badge back on and headed out to see what
was going on.
Actually I hope my Citizen's Arrest bit about my U-turn to the Hot Dog
discussion did not contribute to the moulage. Some of the recent posts have
reminded me of Aunt Bee and her passion for the will of the people..whether
it be running for City Council, or defending a guy losing his property to
the county thru Eminent domain, or pleeing for the Gypsies to stay. All
good causes, all good points, and as Barney says "a fine turnout here
today".
The bottom line though is Mr. Newsome does all the work on this beautiful
little piece of the internet. He makes the rules and he makes them for the
good of the entire group and because he knows over the long term what seems
to works best. One of the things he has been consistent in is trying to
keep the focus on the show, the characters, the stars etc. Good points have
been made that the posts in question were somehow related.. I'm sure he'll
consider that and try to find a balance in the future between "the will of
the people" and what he knows through experience works best. He has also
gone to a lot of trouble to create the Golden Door of Good Fellowship
website for people that like to have discussions about things that don't fit
the guidelines of the Digest. We can discuss regional food topics there
until the cows come home and no one will complain. I, for one, appreciate
the free forum and respect the guidelines. I've had some of my topics booted
off in the past also (actually it was posts that were to long) but I got
over it, and enjoy what is allowed here.
Now here's something really sad. I had a ticket to Mayberry in the Midwest
for last night's dinner with the stars and didn't get to use it..so if I
sound grumpy that probably why. I just live an hour away, but am leaving on
a church Mission trip in a few hours and had to get things ready to go.
Hope everyone there is having fun. Hopefully tomorrow we'll see even more
posts about the event.
IF you have any thoughts on my post drop me a note. I'll be gone for a week
and could miss in it the Digest when I get back. I'd be glad to discuss
further when I return.

I don't know, but I wonder if it has anything to do with the week-long TAGS
marathon that will run on TV Land the week of July 19th. Here's a link to the
schedule:

Hope Summers was also in the movie "Rosemary's Baby". If memory serves, she
was a Satan worshiper.

Subject: Green Acres and (Opie) O.P. Cates
Date: Sat, 10 Jul 2004 21:44:07 -0500
After reading the post in one of the previous digests about Parley Baer being
in a Radio
Version of Green Acres (which I had never even heard of) I did a little
research and
found out that it was only on for 6 episodes in 1950 and was the basis for the
TV Show that came later on.
Parley played Eb the hired hand (but he was old instead of young like the TV
show). Instead of Mr Drucker
at the country store, there was a Mr Kimball (who became the County agent's
name on the TV series)
The county agent was named Hank Stafford and became a love interest for the
Granby's daughter. (I think they combined the first name of Mr Stafford
with Mr. Kimballs last name for the county agent on the TV series)
The show was actually called Granby's Green Acres. And the other interesting
TAGS connection
is that the music was handled by none other than (Opie) O.P. Cates, who if you
are a serious TAGS fan
know supposedly was the inspiration for Opie Taylors name on TAGS.
The pig Arnold, His owner (Mr Ziffle?), and Mr Haney all seem to have been
only on the TV show.
You can go to this web site and listen or download 4 episodes from the radio
series of Granby's Green Acres if
you want.
http://www.maggiore.net/greenacres/garadio.asp
Another interesting fact, but not TAGS related, is that Granby's Green Acres
was a kind of spin off from Lucy's
radio show My Favorite Husband, (which was the basis for I Love Lucy on
television later and even used lots of
the plots from the radio show for the television show.) Mr and Mrs Granby
(played by Gale Gordon and Bea Benedaret)
were on the My Favorite Husband radio show and played George's (Lucy's
Husband) Boss and Boss's wife.
The evidently tire of the banking business and retire to the country.
