Looks like I agree with most of us Mayberry citizens as to our favorite mayor. While Mayor Stoner's furious "Barney!" was priceless in the shoplifting episode, I think Mayor Pike was hilarious. It took a little bit of courage to portray a small town mayor like that at that time----wishy-washy, totally uncommitted to anything other that taking the safe route with the voters. He could change course in the blink of an eye. I spent ten years as a political cartoonist, and Mayor Pike was always in the back of my mind, making me laugh. Still does, every time I see him on our show. Wish I could see all of you who are going to Mayberry Days, and maybe next year I will make it. Things seem to be getting better with the economy, and a friend of mine has a nickel with the buffalo facing the wrong way that he is will to sell cheap! This could be BIG!
